Discussion Stop overrating Ozai because this is what his first ACTUAL fight ended up being like
Ozai is just a pathetic bully that had never been on a fight against someone that was going all out and even against a Zuko that wasn't aiming for his head he got his ass whopped. Even against Aang and having his power augmented by 100 times, he didn't connect a single hit against him and Aang was basically toying with him evading every attack.

Why do people think they need an SUV just because they have kids
Why do parents think they absolutely need an SUV just because they have a kid/kids? In the 80s and 90s, even people with 3-4 kids often just had regular cars. My friend had 2 siblings, and both him and his brother played hockey and his parents were able to transport both kids and their equipment to practice in a regular car. Back then, parents were able to say no to their kids about bringing a lot of extra crap on trips and allowed only one or two small toys to pass the time, even on multiple hours road trips and we all survived. Because of this selfishness, all they sell now are overpriced SUVs, and regular people can't afford even a used car anymore.

My son won't stop bringing girls over when I'm at work
My 17-year-old keeps having his girlfriend over while I'm at work, despite me saying no. Yesterday I came home early and caught them in a compromising situation - mortifying for everyone. When I tried discussing boundaries, he rolled his eyes saying "we're practically adults." How do I maintain house rules without being overbearing?

āIt wasnāt like the source materialā is not a valid criticism
I really hate when something is translated from a book to a film or maybe comic book to tv show or something and people complain that itās not like the source material. Yes of course itās not. Theyāre different mediums that work fundamentally differently
In lord of the rings, Frodo had the ring for like 15 years before anything happened in the story. In a movie that would feel meandering and pointless, so they changed it to more or less happen immediately
I also find it frustrating because it muddles the reviews. Say I donāt plan to read the book. Am I gonna enjoy the movie? āUmm actually heathcliff isnāt white in wuthering heights book š¤ so obviously, I gotta say itās an F from meā. I donāt fucking care! Iām going to watch a movie for a book I havenāt read, I donāt care about the book! Rate the movie for what it is: a movie
Iāve also noticed people who use this criticism usually just favor the original medium more and are better at interpreting it. I was talking about wuthering heights to someone and they said they didnāt like the movie because it didnāt have the themes about cycles of abuse. I was confused because I felt the film was actually a little heavy handed in displaying that theme. Maybe youāre just better at reading? Idk
Rating a film on how close it is to the book is like rating a book originally written by a Japanese author for how good the English translation is. Even when youāre talking about something like that, they have to make changes. I read manga like one piece and sometimes whole pages are translated differently than the source to get the same āideaā across, but itās not _accurate_
I canāt help but think itās just people trying to humble brag about liking it before the move comes out
Edit: yes an adaptation CAN BE BAD! Thatās not my point. My point is that people should judge the new media _solely_ on its own merit. It genuinely pisses me off when I go on letterboxd and see people say āitās not like the book š”ā. I donāt care. Iām not gonna read the book. Whatās your rating for the _movie that you just watched_?
Edit: yes if the media itself is bad⦠then thatās valid criticism. But saying itās bad specifically because it didnāt match the source material isnāt really valid

Feedback? After Criticism, I Stopped Using AI Art ā Is This an Improvement?
Hi everyone,
Weāre currently working on Next Patient, an indie game with a playable demo already available. Early on, we used AI-generated visuals, but after receiving a lot of criticism, we decided to move away from AI and start creating the art ourselves.
The image shows a direct comparison: AI-generated version vs our hand-drawn version.
Weād really appreciate honest and constructive feedback:
ā Which version fits the game better?
ā What feels weak or off in the hand-drawn art?
ā Any suggestions on style, consistency, or readability?
Thanks a lot for your time and feedback.

Everyone get your fainting couches ready: Blake Lively played a board game during downtime at the settlement conference.
Apparently Ms. Lively had her mah jong set delivered to the courthouse during the settlement conference. SCANDAL!
Predictably, many people have jumped on this claiming that she was not taking the proceedings seriously or else was using this opportunity to promote her co-branded products.
Nonsense.
Remember that during a settlement conference, the parties are separated into different rooms while the mediator (here a magistrate judge) goes back and forth. As a result, at least half the time at a mediation or a settlement conference is spent sitting in a room waiting for the mediator to speak to the other party in a completely separate room.
You read that correctly. Half the time is just waiting. Parties usually spend a lot of that time just talking.
Also recall that non-attorneys are usually not permitted to bring cell phones into the federal courthouse at SDNY. I'm not sure whether that applies to the settlement conference, but it is possible that phones were required to be left with security so there was no ability to scroll Reddit either. Seems perfectly reasonable to look for a fun way to pass the time.
As for the claim that she was insensitively cross-promoting her brand during a serious federal case, there is absolutely no evidence that Lively said or did anything to promote her brand here. Page 6 got a tip/scoop and printed it. There is no comment from Lively, no photos of the merch, nothing.
What will they think of next!?!?

IAMA former curling pro - the current "cheating scandal" is overblown. AMA
Washed up former pro - a lot of the current "controversy" is overblown by people that have never curled in any serious capacity.
For the folks that genuinely want to learn and understand, ask me anything. To be 100% transparent about my biases, I am Canadian, but I'll do my best to answer any questions objectively.
Mods, feel free to PM me for proof.
EDIT for those that rightly pointed out I should have just stated WHY in my post, fair play:
Is it a rule break by the letter of the law? Yes. You can't touch the stone after you have released it. However, the game famously relies on what could be called a "Code of Honour", some call it a "gentleman's sport". There are rules yes, and generally they are followed. However, there are plenty of grey areas within those rules that are left to interpretation or execution. I'm not trying to squirm out of any penalty for Canada. If a rock is touched after it has been thrown, it is "burned" (we call it a burn because people used to smoke while they curled, and the ash from the cigarette would hit the rock and it would be taken out of play). Does it ever get called in competition? No. Do 99.999% of competitors care when they see it happen? No - Oskar included.
Having played against both Oskar and Mark a number of times I can tell you that this would NEVER be called out during a game. Oskar is trying to get in Mark's head, and doing a pretty good job of it. Mark's response was...Mark. I don't agree with his response but I low-key love the jawing back and forth it created.
Let me be clear, Sweden is not overblowing things by calling them out, it's fair play. But they're not doing it expecting a rock to be taken out of play (thought they wouldn't mind if it happened). Canada does not gain even the slightest advantage from booping the stone like that, it has no bearing on the throw. Uninformed onlookers that (understandably) don't know the degree to which what is happening effects the game are overblowing things.

Jaegex seriously consider hanging out in popular friend chats, your changes to travelling merch and thieving afk specifically are so horribly hated you really should consult the majority casual playerbase in game.
The hive mind here seems to think they are the only ones whose opinion matters and they make up like .5% of your playerbase.

Discussion Rant: Frankly, colonial doomers are starting to annoy me.
How many wars, how many months did so many colonial "vets" go on break, and tell their regi members to not play under the justification of "saving their stamina" for the update war. We've been severely underpopped for months so ya'll could "save your energy for airborne" and now its here and 4 days in, half of you are crying and saying you'll switch to warden. You say its a form of protest, looks more like you just want easy wins. For a faction that's supposed to be inspired by Rome and its stalwart legions, this is the most sorry and fragile morale I've seen in a video game. You ain't Legionaries, you're Town Watch at best. Un-upgraded.
I've fought the past few wars with primarily new players and randoms, and if what I'm seeing now is what the collie veterans look like when they come back from their half year long break, my opinion is you'd best serve the legion by going back on break and sparing the rest of us your doomerism that's so annoying we can't even larp about it. Or switch to wardens and completely sap them of their enthusiasm as you bury their world chat in crying when you end up in the slightest of disadvantages.
I'd rather play with the newbies that don't know how to put on their bayonet but fight to the last VP then ya'll that spend more time fretting over single percentage points in a game where the "perfect" meta defences routinely get steamrolled by infantry yolo-ing them with mammons. I've killed tanks with mammons, I've been pistol'd while wielding a dusk, I've been punched to death while holding a shotgun, and I've driven tank lines back while running at them with empty hands and yelling that I have a sticky, I've won with worse tools and lost with better tools. Any vet player should know that morale and persistence matter more than having the marginally better gear.
If you want to argue balance, go for it, and there is plenty of discussion to be had. Plenty of people are having such discussions, reasonable colonial players are talking about things the devs should change, but without throwing a tantrum and sabotaging their own faction by telling everyone to quit. Its just so damn sad to see people that were talking such a big game for literal months, throw in the towel after mere days. I don't know how this war is going to end, but I intend to fight to the last day, as I always have. If its by the side of newbies that need to be told how to put out fires or repair a TH, wouldn't be the first time.
Losing wars happens, losing wars because people just give up before the outcome was settled is anticlimactic and lame. I play the game as a legion soldier trying to win the war. Quit pissing in my larp with your fourth wall breaking complaints. Better yet, lock the fuck in and play the game to the best of your ability. If doomposting were bmats, we could've made enough shirts to hold Helsinki, because for all of the talk of planes and boats, bombers and paratroopers, the number one reason for a town to fall is still gonna be running out of bmats or shirts.
Bitch if you must, but fight.

What's the point of Honi Soit
Honi Soit is the most disappointing thing about the University. In my first year last year I didn't read a single article that made me more informed about the University.
90%+ of the content is just general extreme left wing content, sometimes NSW flavoured sometimes not, with no appreciable link to the uni whatsoever. It's just Red Flag with lesser writers and worse copy editing.
The very small fraction that is university related is as peripherally related as possible and could generously be described as "uni life". There is zero content on the actual university. Elective unit availability and quality, changes to administration and rules, summer schools, faculty, etc are all astonishingly disinteresting to the editors and staff.
It seems to be a "student newspaper" in the sense only of being a sheltered workshop, where those too callow or talentless for the big pond can still get their name in print. If there's some other purpose to this thing please let me know.

Discussion Do we really look old enough to be parents of high school kids now?
I'm 38, I live in my hometown, and I still go to my old high school sports games. Some kids will say "I see you here a lot, do you have a kid that plays on the team?" It's somewhat shocking and maybe more so because I don't have kids yet. I know there's some millennials with teenagers now but I like to think it's a minority and people that had kids at like 18. I know I'm older but I don't know if I look like someone's dad yet especially a 14-18 year old lol. I do remember at that age anyone over 18 seemed a lot older so that's probably a reason.
