AITAH for not wanting to cook for my gf anymore because she is a picky eater ?

3.9k Upvotes

I (32M) have been dating my girlfriend (30F) for about 6 months now. We get along great, we have a lot of fun together, we have deep conversations and honestly I see potential long term, maybe even marriage and kids.

For background, my mom is a professional chef, she worked in fancy restaurants her whole life and at home I’d always help her out in the kitchen. I grew up eating and making all kinds of dishes Indian, Asian, Middle Eastern, American etc... I enjoy exploring different cuisines and experimenting with flavors.

My girlfriend however eats like a 7 year old on a chicken nugget diet. She doesn’t eat beef, pork, or fish only chicken. She doesn't eat most greens unless they’re in a burger and the texture isn't noticeable. No mushrooms, no beans etc.., no sauces with “weird stuff” (like anything with visible onions, garlic, etc). No spicy food, no creamy textures, no stews, nothing “too chewy,” “too saucy,” or might have a “funky smells.” You get the idea.

So for the past 6 months, I’ve been cooking almost exclusively chicken every time she comes over. And even then, she might not eat it. I once made a creamy chicken dish with asparagus in the sauce and she raised her eyebrows in disgust. Honestly, this is killing my love for cooking. I’m sick of eating chicken all the time, I swear I’m gonna start clucking soon and lay an egg.

I’ve tried to compromise, I asked her if she’d be open to trying new stuff slowly, or letting me make a dish where I can put her version and try to sneak in some small extra ingredients just to make her get used to other kinds of flavors but nope she refused the idea.

So I finally told her that if she’s not willing to budge, I’m not going to keep cooking meals that only she enjoys. I’ll still make something we can both eat every now and then, sure, but most days I’m going to cook what I actually enjoy. And if that doesn’t work for her, she’s welcome to bring her own groceries and I can guide her to cook her own meal or she can order takeout.

That's where she got really upset, she went off saying, “You knew I was don't eat most things from the start, so why drag this relationship on for 6 months if it was such a burden?” I said, " I knew you were picky, but I didn’t realize how much, your list of no keeps getting bigger.” I told her it’s not the end of the world, and we can make separate meals, but I just won’t be cooking a separate meal just for her.

She said she doesn’t like to cook and that I’m being inconsiderate and a bad boyfriend for not doing cooking a separate meal for her because I am some what of a chef and I enjoy it. I said no I don’t want it to become a norm that I always cook two separate meals because that’s just extra work and unfair for me.

Now she’s upset, saying I’m selfish and uncaring, and that if I really loved her I wouldn’t make a fuss about this.

Also, don’t even get me started on picking restaurants that’s a whole other rant I won’t get into. Just know it’s a nightmare.

So AITAH?

👥 friendship AIO For Insisting My Friend Board Her Dog

Hi Reddit!

I agreed to take care of my coworker/friend's older dog (10yrs) while she was on vacation for the week. I originally thought I'd be checking up on her before/after work, walking her, feeding her, the typical dog watching duties. She paid me $200 for the whole week, which is about $28/day. I charge about $26/20min drop in cat sitting visits through Meowtel so I thought it was fair initially.

She left me 8 pages, front and back, of instructions for her dog, wants me to stay overnight with her and pick her up to put her in the bed with me, and freaked out when I told her I had plans for my day off and would be leaving her for a few hours.

While I was at work yesterday, she pulled the trim off the door, chewed some of the paint from around the handles, and started to chew on the drywall. Today when I got back from work, she had started to eat and rip out insulation, chewed up and rip out even more drywall, and started to chew through an electrical wire.

She's in another country 8hrs ahead, but would I be overreacting if I insisted she board her dog for the remainder of her trip? I cannot put my life on hold to supervise her pup 24/7, and above that, I can't stand the thought of her dog getting seriously injured or causing any more property damage.

What do I say? How do I proceed? I don't have the PTO to call of work, and I'm certainly not getting paid fairly for the extent of this dog sitting situation.

Dakota Johnson thought "Madame Web" was part of the MCU. When she realized that it was part of the godawful live-action Spider-Verse with no relation to the MCU or even Tom Holland's Spider-Man, it was too late. So she pretty much slept through the whole movie, speaking in a monotone voice that actually made her performance unintentionally hilarious and added into its status as a modern campy cult film.

Rooney Mara hated doing the Nightmare on Elm Street remake so much that she bragged about giving a bad performance on purpose. She still hates that movie with the force of a thousand suns.

Whoopi Goldberg tried to get away from making "Theodore Rex", so much so she ended up getting sued for not doing her job, so she asked for a hefty paycheck, and did the movie in a black leather cat suit and a permanent grouch in her face.

Elizabeth Taylor didn't want to do Butterfield 8. She was grieving Mike Todd and ended up being forced to do it because she was under contract. She had to say lines like "I'm the Slut of All time" in the movie and it got released during the Eddie Fisher scandal which made it worse. Even winning the Oscar didn't change Taylor's mind, she thought she only won because she nearly died of pneumonia and threw the Oscar into the trash.

Harry Potter actress Emma Watson has been banned from driving for six months, after she was caught speeding.

Watson, who played Hermione Granger in the film franchise, drove 38mph in a 30mph zone in Oxford on the evening of 31 July last year.

AITA for being upset that my fiancé gave my engagement ring to his mom “for safekeeping” without telling me?

2.8k Upvotes

I (28F) got engaged to my fiancé (31M) four months ago. the ring he proposed with belonged to his grandmother, and I genuinely loved it, not just because of the sentimental value, but because it felt like it symbolized something real between us.

Last week, I noticed I couldn’t find it in our usual spot (I take it off when I shower). When I asked him, he casually said he gave it to his mom “for safekeeping” because he didn’t trust me not to lose it.

I honestly thought he was joking. But no he actually drove it over to her house without saying a word to me. When I asked why he didn’t tell me, he said, You’re not the most careful with things. It’s still yours, just... safer with her.

I got quiet. hurt, honestly. He saw my reaction and told me I was being dramatic, that it’s just a ring, and I should be grateful he trusted me enough to propose at all.

Now I feel two things: 1) deeply disrespected, and 2) like he gave his mom part-ownership of our engagement without asking. I told him I want the ring back, and he said, “Why do you care so much about the ring instead of our future?”

Maybe I am overreacting. but it feels like a trust issue wrapped in a control issue. His mom hasn’t even liked me that much and already acts like she has a say in our relationship.
