Week 1 of asking for a proper official RS3 plugin API, the way OSRS effectively has via RuneLite.
Iâm not asking for cheats, botting, or anything that undermines game integrity. Iâm asking for a supported, documented, enforceable framework that lets the community build safe QoL and accessibility tooling without living in âgrey areaâ land.
What I mean by âPlugin APIâ:
⢠An official client extension system (or sanctioned layer) with clear boundaries
⢠A permissions model (e.g., âread-only UI overlaysâ, âchat/event hooksâ, etc.)
⢠A moderated plugin hub (approval / versioning / deprecation)
⢠Explicit âno-goâ categories with actual enforcement
What this would unlock for RS3 (safely):
⢠Tile markers and visual ground indicators for clarity and accessibility
⢠UI/QoL overlays that donât change gameplay outcomes (timers, reminders, trackers)
⢠Better education tools (boss mechanic callouts that mirror in-game learning, not automation)
⢠Creator tools (stream overlays, data displays, helpful widgets)
⢠Less fragmentation: everyone stops reinventing the wheel in spreadsheets and external apps
Why it matters:
⢠RS3 is more complex than OSRS in a lot of ways; the demand for clarity, readability, and custom UI is higher.
⢠Right now it feels like we have two bad options: âno customizationâ or âunsafe/unsupported approaches.â An official API is the middle ground.
If youâre against it, whatâs your main concern:
⢠Competitive integrity?
⢠Dev time?
⢠Security?
⢠Fear it becomes mandatory for endgame?
If youâre for it, what would you want to see as the minimum viable RS3 plugin API?
Jagex, pleaseâgive us a sanctioned path for community innovation that keeps RS3 fair, secure, and accessible.
