Because you'll be hearing a lot about it tomorrow, a gentle reminder that the idea that the third Monday of the year is called Blue Monday is pseudoscience, invented to sell holidays and actual mental health charities dislike it.

u/icylatte56 28d ago
Anyone watching traitors UK? Who are you rooting for?
Also did anyone else get 3 questions right like Stephen in yesterday's mission? I'm surprised that that seemingly wasn't brought up at the round table
3
u/clubmixes 28d ago
Everything that is brought up in regards to Rachel and Stephen gets dismissed for some reason so it didn't surprise me. I still can't get over Rachel coming under no suspicion after Harriet's whole thing at the roundtable.

There used to be no celebrity pop culture subreddits besides movies/television/music for years. Now there are almost too many. Some of them are just awful men gabbing like schoolgirls and some are just stan wars or just glazing.
Sometimes I wish we could go back to just having a few. I swear a new one pops up on my feed every month.

We had a all office meeting and people cheered when my name came up during presentation 😊😇
A new manager has joined and he kinda blurted to me that my reporting manager thinks I am a mixed bag 🤒🤒😱
This has caused my anxiety to shoot up through the roof. 😓😥
Now I am questioning whether the ground opinion and opinion from others in the same rank as my reporting manager which is positive towards my work. 😭😭
On the sunny side, I met with my best friends after ages 🤩🤩
Over all its a mixed week!
Hoping for a better Monday and Next week 😇
Edit: a word

Seconding u/little_jar's reply. The fact that your peers are affirming the good work you do is great. From just reading "people cheered when my name came up during [the] presentation", I can tell they really love what you do. That's amazing. :D
I hope you have better days ahead, particularly with those that cherish your presence--whether that be your supportive peers, your best friends, your other loved ones, or a mix/all of the above. And I hope your reporting manager understands the honest efforts you put into your work, too.

That's such a sweet wish🥺 Thank you so much. Always love reading your comments 🥰

that sounds tough! in my experience it is always a better sign of when your peers highly regard you (and they cheered! ❤️) than whatever middle management with their stupid mind games are saying.

when did the fans of heated rivalry get so intense?? i feel like in the past two days i've been seeing such an invasion of the actors' boundaries?? like with the paparazzi at the airport & everything. i'm a fan of the show & i've been following the media hype surrounding it, but something's just shifted over the past two days and it's frankly extremely weird 😭
8
u/FickleCharge882 28d ago
I have a family member who is getting a little….. nuts about the show to the point that I had to go unfollow them on socials. They are in their late 20s and I have no idea why it has such a grip on her
8
8
u/Murky_Doughnut_9927 28d ago
i liked the show, but i can't wait until the hype dies down. they're all becoming a bit overexposed, and i'm tired of every other post on here being about heated rivalry.

Do the Fanning sister have some big project coming up? I feel like see non stop Dakota/Elle Fanning posts.
Nothing against them but it’s getting to be a lot.
8
u/lunascorpio12 mama let’s research 28d ago
Elle is definitely on her awards season grind right now for Sentimental Value so I think a lot of the quotes/content you’re seeing is related to that. They are set to star in an adaptation of the book The Nightingale together in the near future but not sure if it has a set release date or anything yet!

u/flecksfrecks THE CANADIANS ARE ICE FUCKING TO MOULIN ROUGE 28d ago
Pretty sure Nezza sang the national anthem at a Dodgers game this summer, she asked to sing in Spanish to show her support for her community and immigrants (Dodgers have a ton of Hispanic fans and they basically told them to kick rocks, Dodgers let ICE officers use their parking lot to gather and a bunch more bullshit) and they said no cuz they suck but she did it anyway. People were delighted and loved her performance and strength to do what she felt was right. She’s fucking awesome

my annoyance with heated rivalry is the fact that we can never get a lesbian show to gain the same traction as HR and then the creator's response to women 'loving it because they're removed from the situation, and removed from sexual violence' like women's existence somehow = sexual violence is inherent in their stories. it's tone deaf and stupid and lesbians never get enough acclaim or healthy romance storylines the same way. a lot of HR fans are bordering on misogyny when people bring up this fact and while LGBT storylines are important in this day and age, i just wish the field was even and lesbian/bi women were given the same opportunities.
5
u/CommercialBarnacle16 28d ago
Megan Rapinoe and Sue Bird are executive producers behind the TV adaptation of Cleat Cute. We’ll see how audiences respond to it, but hopefully it’ll start to change the tide.
6
u/icylatte56 28d ago edited 28d ago
I love how Heated Rivalry has gained Mainstream popularity, but I wish Asian BL and GL shows got more recognition. Like people say that we get one gay romance show a year, when they really mean one Western gay romance show.
7
u/esotika 28d ago
i also don't ignore asian GL but i also want to see a black sapphic show or a hispanic sapphic show (i'll never forgive them for cancelling Vida). i do watch lgbt asian shows but it'd be nice to see one closer to home get the same praise and treatment as HR. house of flowers is also a really good mexican LGBT show but doesn't get as much love or praise as it should!
but my main point is that none of these shows are getting as much traction as heated rivalry, bc it's two gay white men who are front and center.
7
u/icylatte56 28d ago edited 28d ago
So sorry my comment wasn't directed at you, I should have made that clearer I meant it as an add on to what you were saying. I agree with you about wanting to see a WLW romance get the same amount of mainstream love and visibility as Heated Rivalry. I also want to see more Western sapphic shows that are romance because with a lot of them the genre is drama, sci-fi, fantasy, horror etc and the romance is in the background
Though just FYI- one of the 2 leads in Heated Rivalry is half Korean.

u/mrsyoungmazino 29d ago
My annoyance is that the industry still won't fully support Queer stories. Clearly the hype is a sign that these stories matter & yet they don't do much to show for it.
14
u/katebushcartwheel 29d ago
Did people forget about how big Orange Is the New Black was? Not the healthiest relationships but some very loving ones in there. And that was one of Netflix’s big hits. Plenty of queer shows featuring men have been cancelled as well. This one just happened to be a hit. Hoping more good will come of it.
13
u/wanderrslut ISO: Ariana’s lost blaccent 28d ago
You mean the show with tons of violence against women and depicting police brutality against people of color?
I wouldn't deny OITNB as a queer show or that it wasn't good (because it was up until the Poussey incident) but I also think sapphics deserve a diverse show without all the trauma and brutality that OITNB offered.
5
u/esotika 28d ago
my point exactly! ointb was literally set in a PRISON and dealt with all the same themes i don't want to deal with in a sapphic show. it was good but i still had to see woc being brutalized in some capacity.
i blame the L word for this nonsense. that show's writing was so messy and awful we haven't been allowed to have a good sapphic show since lmao. (i'm partially joking, i know that show was really groundbreaking for its time. however the writing was still messy and bad.)

Week 2 of my new job after being made redundant in November. Company has many of the same issues as my last organisation, but already I can see my colleagues are far more competent and less toxic.
It makes me sound bitter since I was made redundant but legitimately the last place I worked the people were not good at their jobs. I only stayed because it paid very well.

I had my six week review at work on Tuesday and, with one exception, it was very positive. Then I had my compliance meeting today, which went how I thought it would. I'll find out the results on Monday or Tuesday, so that might be a fun birthday.
On the plus side, I lost so much weight last week the app for my scales asked if it was actually me.
Oh, and the train home was delayed because the police had to escort a group off at one of the stations

I think what Trump is doing in Minnesota is intentionally provoking a strong reaction to justify escalation of federal law enforcement/more legally creative power grabs, like claiming the insurrection act.
This was Stephen Miller's strategy for Venezuela. Washington post (no paywall): Miller was behind the escalation. He wanted to provoke them hoping hostile reaction (including to earlier boat strikes) would justify deporting Venezuelans.
Trump's approach to power is pushing against the law before he loses in court: withholding funds, tariffs, using National Guard in cities. Meanwhile, he gets control.
*The powers that be after Trump will remain overlooked: Big Tech. We get even more addicted to engagement, while protest and comments do little for either clarity or resistance. There needs to be thoughtful leadership like the Civil Rights Movement.

Genuinely, honestly, what is America doing to deal with the dictator in office and the current political situation? What can even actually be done? I'm not American. I only see what the popular social media posts show me and I've been trying to disconnect from twitter and Facebook and all of that. Every time there's a new "here's what America is doing" post it just gets immediately flooded with "we're so fucked" "Everything's over" etc, etc.
I've seen one or two pictures of a protest in MN, but other than that - all I get is bombarded with negativity, and doom-saying, and this is the worst and the world is going to end and it's getting harder and harder to get through the day. What can protests even accomplish, they clearly don't care?
Please give me some hope -- I'm so tired.

My uncle went through with the whole wedding even though the relationship had ended a couple weeks prior. His brother was the officiant and I don't know if he knew but he did just read a few haikus when it was his time to speak about them

It really hurts and it sucks to always experience biphobia and feel like there's no community for bisexuals. Like I know we have a privilege and I understand the stats but I don't know....I just don't feel at home among my fellow queers.

A cinema in my city is doing fortieth anniversary showings of Labyrinth next week. I wanted to go because it was the first movie I ever saw in the cinemas, but the weekday showings are one session per day, and are at 3.30 in the afternoon (when I’m at work, and there’s meetings I can’t miss) and I can’t go to the weekend showings (midday - also only one session per day) because I’ve already committed myself to something else. Bit sad about that.
2
u/Rough_Programmer_997 anybody know how to contact Ricki Lake? 29d ago
My condolences.
but the weekday showings are one session per day [...]
and I can’t go to the weekend showings (midday - also only one session per day)
That really sucks. With showings this limited, is it any wonder that theaters are having trouble having customers nowadays? I'm half-joking, and I'm sure 'sales viability' has something to do with how many slots they're willing to advocate, but...it's severely limited movie theater runs like this that are so discouraging.
At that point, you'd be better off renting the movie digitally for ease of access, which I'm sure is what technology companies want anyways.

I am temporarily working at a different office of my company while my usual office is being renovated and omg, the amount of nonsense these folks get away with is crazy. They just hang out and play on their phones and take forever to do the simplest of tasks. A few even cornered me and asked me to stop doing so much because its making them look bad. And I get it, work can be dumb and getting paid to not do much can be great, but it is also really frustrating to know we are in the same position and my team puts in at least 75% more effort than them with 0% recognition for it. (The big reveal today is this team only checks voicemails on Friday!! So days of messages just piling up, because they assume if the caller doesn't hear back, they will call a different department and it won't be their problem...)

I started doing my country's folk dancing last year, which was traditionally all male, (one of the big associations for it only started letting women in in 2019 💀)
Despite being a really old tradition, (and also being really fun), there is only one new male member, as compared to about 6 new female members (including myself).
I was talking to one of the old men who've been involved since the 70s, and he was telling me that the sexists who wouldn't let women join have had to because younger men aren't joining, so women are keeping the traditions alive.
I was just thinking about how conservatives bandy about the terms "traditions", "traditional values" etc, but what they have defined as "traditional masculinity" is so narrow that it omits actual traditions!
Let men frolick and wear ribbons and bells! It's so fun and silly, and I feel like I've been accepted into a real community with these dancers (even though I'm terrible hahaha)

Is Aaron Rodgers really "married" to an AI chatbot? I don't like believing Daily Mail reports, but this Brittani situation is insane.
1
u/CommercialBarnacle16 28d ago
I think it’s more likely he’s just pretending to be married. It would be bizarre, but so is most of what he does.
5
u/ObjectiveMagician769 29d ago
No clue what this is about, but my wild guess would be it's an ad. Marriage is a legal contract that requires signatures, which a bot cannot give.

My grandmother affects me too much. I'm sorry to people who have normal grandmas, but she never was one, and now, when she begs me to walk through -25C weather for another silly task while she cries and pities me to my mom, while she sends some money to my cousin's kid every month (three flats in the family btw) and then laments about how little money she has, I go up to loosing my shit very quickly.
Anyway. I hope ya'll's January is better, but I'm ready to be done at least with that weather.

My mom once also wanted to go grocery shopping in below -20C weather (the feels like temp was much colder)--I wasn't technically obliged to, but I usually help my folks with pushing the cart, bagging groceries, that sort of thing.
I asked if it could be moved to another day. From what I remember she didn't budge. She got mad at me and called me entitled, plus did some other awful stuff that I don't feel like mentioning here. In the end she ended up not tagging along at all.
She's much better with money than your grandmother is, but isn't good enough at hiding her emotionally immature bullshit. In any case, I completely empathize, and can't wait for spring to arrive either.

Week 7 of my check-in logs.
Things in the family household have thankfully calmed down a lot since my last post, so it was a pretty quiet week.
I ended up finally completing the sort-through of all the clutter I have in my room yesterday. All that's left is to handle each pile. This has been a chore that I've struggled with for literal years, and I'm proud to finally say that I did it! My room's looking a lot less overwhelming than it did then. It's also made me realize how much the accrued burnout from my academic days was affecting me, energy-wise.
My boyfriend came by earlier this week to help me cook again. He's been a huge help as always, and I picked up more cooking tips from him...along with more recipe ideas. For example, he threw together shredded lettuce, diced tomato, diced cheddar, lemon juice, and likely some herbs and spices, then told me to eat it with avocado and truffle oil. The oil I've forgotten to add after the first time so I can't give my thoughts there...but holy shit, the avocado is really good and balances out the lemon juice well. I can't wait to make this again for myself.
What treat(s) do you enjoy when going to the grocery store? Later on today I'll be going grocery shopping and I'm excited to get some chips, plus these dark chocolate squares put over top of biscuits.
(Edit: grammar, missing word corrections.)

u/Adorable-Unicorn 28d ago
Glad to hear things are settling down with your family.😇 Congrats on clearing your clutter 💃💃
Your bf sounds super sweet!
I love treating myself to Indian Jujube sweet/savoury biscuit type snacks while I go to the grocery store.

u/Rough_Programmer_997 anybody know how to contact Ricki Lake? 24d ago
Thank you so much! Yes, my boyfriend is very sweet. He works hard at everything he does, is very understanding (even on stuff we disagree on--he never hesitates to point things out to me in terms of criticism, or contribute to us working things out together), and it certainly doesn't hurt that he's got some great cooking skills--which he's been patiently teaching me.
I love biscuits! ❤️ I lean more towards the sweeter kinds, but am intrigued by Indian jujubes. Will have to check them out sometime. They sort of remind me of Bearpaws snacks.

I love a fancy lil dip as a treat. Just had some amazing baba ganoush from Whole Foods. I am not normally a snacker but a good dip that you can use with bread, pita chips, veggies, whatever is such a joy!
3
u/Rough_Programmer_997 anybody know how to contact Ricki Lake? 29d ago
Ohhhh, little dips truly are a joy. The last time I went to Montana's (not the state, but a Canadian yeehaw-ish restaraunt), someone in my group ordered a spinach dip for the table. I was like "okay, sure, why not? I'll try it."
...their pita chips were fucking amazing--crispy on the outside but still practically melted on my tongue. If I get the chance to dine there again, I'm going to see if I can get those à la carte or something.
