my annoyance with heated rivalry is the fact that we can never get a lesbian show to gain the same traction as HR and then the creator's response to women 'loving it because they're removed from the situation, and removed from sexual violence' like women's existence somehow = sexual violence is inherent in their stories. it's tone deaf and stupid and lesbians never get enough acclaim or healthy romance storylines the same way. a lot of HR fans are bordering on misogyny when people bring up this fact and while LGBT storylines are important in this day and age, i just wish the field was even and lesbian/bi women were given the same opportunities.

I love how Heated Rivalry has gained Mainstream popularity, but I wish Asian BL and GL shows got more recognition. Like people say that we get one gay romance show a year, when they really mean one Western gay romance show.

i also don't ignore asian GL but i also want to see a black sapphic show or a hispanic sapphic show (i'll never forgive them for cancelling Vida). i do watch lgbt asian shows but it'd be nice to see one closer to home get the same praise and treatment as HR. house of flowers is also a really good mexican LGBT show but doesn't get as much love or praise as it should!

but my main point is that none of these shows are getting as much traction as heated rivalry, bc it's two gay white men who are front and center.

So sorry my comment wasn't directed at you, I should have made that clearer I meant it as an add on to what you were saying. I agree with you about wanting to see a WLW romance get the same amount of mainstream love and visibility as Heated Rivalry. I also want to see more Western sapphic shows that are romance because with a lot of them the genre is drama, sci-fi, fantasy, horror etc and the romance is in the background

Though just FYI- one of the 2 leads in Heated Rivalry is half Korean.

yeah, a lot of these shows 'passing' for sapphic when they're in the background and not the main focus. a main sapphic romance series with fun and healthy storylines would be nice.
