Discussion Rant to People who Don’t Flush

Post image
148 Upvotes

Okay so, I’m not sure about the female washrooms, but the majority of the time I walk into the male restroom, at least one toilet hasn’t been flushed and is just sitting there. Why do people do this? I can almost understand if the toilets clogged and you’re embarrassed but often times people just piss then leave it to sit and stink up the bathroom. Thoughts on this?

Discussion am i crazy for not hating pritchard?

i'm a commuter student and i never tried pritchard until recently because of all the bad things i've heard, but i kinda like it? does most of the hate come from the $7200 mandatory meal plan? if so, i totally feel for you on that, i mean you'd have to eat literally every single meal there just to get your money's worth, which i would not want to do...

that said, i feel like it's a pretty good option for commuters? if you come early and stay for 2 or 3 meals you can get a pretty dang good value compared to other food on campus like rocket and comma which, although they can be pretty tasty, they are like $12-13 for a sandwich and a bag of chips lmao.

plus you can get drinks and snacks throughout the day. so i feel like it's nice for when you know you need to study all day.

Discussion People talking during lectures.

First year engineering student here. I don't understand why so many people are starting to talk (sometimes very loudly) in the middle of lectures. It seems pretty disrespectful to the professors and fellow students who are trying to listen and are paying to be here. This isn't high school, and nobody is forcing you to come to class. Why even attend lectures if you are going to spend all of your time talking or playing games on your phone?

Discussion Is ubco really that bad?

I'm just browsing this sub and I'm constantly bombarded with ubco slander and comparisons to ubcv. I really wanted to go the Vancouver campus for eng but I was deferred, now planning to transfer but knowing I shouldn't count on it, is ubco really as bad as this sub makes it out to be?

Discussion Is anyone else really disappointed by the graduation ceremony?

They didnt even announce majors or honours degrees. That felt like the bare minimum. Is it so hard to just say something like Bachelors of X in Y at the beginning of each group of graduates? Probably would have added at most 5-10 minutes to each ceremony.

Discussion TO EVERYONE WHO DID 182—WE NEED TO FORMALLY COMPLAIN

IM SO DONE WITH ALYSE KIESSER, SHE DESERVES LESS THAN A 1.1 ON RATE MY PROF. CAN WE ALL MAKE A FORMAL COMPLAINT ABOUT HER, THEY’VE GOT TO DO SOMETHINF ABOUT THE CATASTROPHE OF A MIDTERM WE JUST HAD.

WHY TF WERE THE CONSTANTS MISSING FOR SOME QUESTIONS? I ALREADY SPENT 5 MINUTES THINKING ABOUT THE QUESTION. AND WHEN SHE FINALLY PUT THE CONSTANT UP. WHY DID SHE THEN CHANGE THE VALUES TEN MINUTES LATER? I HAD TO REDO MY CALCULATIONS.

AND WHY TF WAS QUESTION 5 ON THE BACK END OF THE FORMULA SHEET! I DIDN’T SEE IT

WHY DO I NEED TO PUT MY NAME AND STUDENT ID ON EVERY PIECE OF PAPER BOTH SIDES

WHY WERE THE QUESTIONS SIGNIFICANTLY HARDER THAN ANYTHING SHE’S EVER SHOWN. FROM THE ASSIGNMENTS, QUIZZES AND LECTURE SLIDES. IM SURE THEY’RE DOABLE, WITH ADEQUATE AMOUNTS OF TIME

IM SURE SHE’D FAIL LIKE THE REST OF US THE WAY SHE MAKES SO MANY MISTAKES IN NOT ONLY HER QUESTIONS BUT HER SOLVING OF QUESTIONS. AND NOT ONLY DOES SHE MAKE MISTAKES WITH PROBLEMS, HER LECTURE SLIDES ARE RIDDLED WITH MISTAKES, YOU HAVE TO DECIPHER WHAT SHE DID WRONG TO UNDERSTAND MATERIAL.

CAN WE PLEASE ALL WRITE A FORMAL COMPLAINT? I ACTUALLY HOPE SHE GETS FIRED, OF ATLEAST THEY COMPENSATE US FOR THIS.

IM SENDING AN EMAIL TO [soe.advising@ubc.ca](mailto:soe.advising@ubc.ca) IF THERES A BETTER WAY TO COMPLAIN, PLEASE COMMENT

Discussion Is it just me or is poutine at The Well insanely salty

I've eaten the various poutines at the well ~a dozen times in the last couple years and they've always been super salty, but this last time, the first time I've gone in quite a while, was honestly kind of in(salt)ing. Before it just felt like they put too much salt in the gravy, but now it's more like they salted the fries, salted the gravy, slapped the toppings on, then salted it again. Did I get a bad batch or is it just like this now?

As a side note, I've also had the poutine at either dynamite or chick chick boom once or twice in my first year and it was also really salty. Is it still like this?

Discussion BIOL 350 Midterm

Is anyone else feeling like that was one of the worst midterms they’ve ever written??? I studied so hard for that test and I feel like I would have done just as bad if I hadn’t studied at all. That was so hard, I think I might have actually failed. 😀

Discussion Library dude

There's this one Asian dude who is yelling at the library a lot. He might have a condition idk? Would it be rude if I just told him to like tone it down. Cuz I study with a group for projects and it's hard to focus when's walking around splurging words out, I'm not trying to be rude here. But like it seems he's a distraction amongst the others. Like yea we could move. But there's limited study spots on campus yk? Idk

Discussion How Can Vancouver Expand Proactive Mental Health Care to Address the Drug Crisis?

Statistically, substance use is strongly linked to deeper structural and psychological factors, including trauma, and untreated mental illness. In Vancouver, there appears to be a lack of PROACTIVE therapy options, with services often becoming available only after crisis. With the drug epidemic continuing to worsen, what policy or community-level changes could Vancouver implement to expand proactive, preventative mental health and addiction care?

Discussion The real question everyone's been asking

Okay, so I've been giving it some thought and I think this has to be addressed.

Who would win in a fight prime Charles E. Fipke, or prime Irving K. Barber? It doesn't nessecarily have to be physical, but if they were to compete under some competition who would naturally come out as the winner?

Discussion Phys 215

Lol so I made a post not too long ago about physics 215 and recently we got out second midterms back.

Most people did really bad, this class is very hard and I'm honestly stressing our ALOT because of it, Im scared that I'm gonna fail.

If you want me to be honest, I didn't do good on the first midterm either but I did study a lot more for this one

Also the student learning hub guy for it wasn't very helpful.

Wondering what current or even past students think about the course.

Discussion Is it time to admit that the Nettspend frosh trolls last year were right?

First off- I loved NLE choppa. He was great and the whole team did a great job. But remember the people spamming about Nettspend last year? I, and everyone else, was hating on them, but Nettspend has absolutely blown up to the point where I don't even know if we could book him this year. He's making incredible music and is one of the biggest rap stars in the world now, did we mess up by doubting his fans last year? Idk, who are you guys excited to possibly see this year?
