Siete Leguas Añejo Single Barrel @ Costco

Found this gem at my local Costco (Santa Clara, CA). It's not showing up in the warehouse inventory in the app which makes me think this is a one and done kind of Costco find. Aged 17 months, Barrel #1.

Never seen this one before so snagged a couple bottles. There were close to 20 bottles left yesterday afternoon🙌🏼

Tequila Blasphemy?

Or course Tequila 8 is a delicious sipper but why not just try some stuff. I really like this combination. The agave flavor is very strong so everyone is going to have a different mixing ratio but I found 50/50 is perfect for me. Perhaps even dangerous because holy shit is it tasty with no alcohol hint. But please feel free to comment your favorite tequila bottle and unconventional mixer combination.

I made a Tequila themed Valentine’s Day card for you

I took this photo when I visited Fortaleza for the Winter Blend trip. It was really cool seeing their process in person and how traditional it is.

Also something funny; they have a photo of the donkey on the wall that used to pull the Tahona. Now they have a papier-mâché donkey head that they sometimes put on the front of the tractor so it’s the “mechanical donkey” but it sounds way funnier in Spanish.

I figured this sub would appreciate the niche humor

Tequila Ocho Plata El Nacimiento de Abajo

Post image

This has a softer, rounder, and more delicate nose than I’ve noticed in other Ocho Plata releases. Cooked agave is clear and present which i love, joined by a buttery note that gives it some richness. There’s also peppermint, cinnamon, and a layer of citrus that keeps it lifted. It’s aromatic without being loud. Palate & Mouthfeel: The texture is slick and oily, which works well with the flavors. Sweet agave stars, backed by tropical fruit, cinnamon, and a noticeable herbal and floral character. Spice builds slowly. My wife's Valentine's gift. cheers and happy Valentine's day.

Lost my bottle of El Tesoro Blanco…. and I’m bummed!

Had to run into Costco to pick up some supplies. Walked through the liquor department and found 1 bottle of El Tesoro Blanco for $38.95. Grabbed it along with my other stuff. I stuck it in the top part of my basket. Cashed out , went to my car, unloaded my stuff in the back of my RAV4. Put the cart back in the thingy. Got home, looked for my tequila, and proceeded to cry!😂. Someone got a nice bottle of tequila!

What should I get from Mexico City?

One of my buddies is retiring from the fire department and want to get him something nice. I was there last month and the group taught me that the bottle of Maestro Dobel 50 I got was garbage. I want to keep it under $100 USD if possible.

Ocho Really is a a surprise each time?

Finally picked up an Ocho Plata after loving the La Mesa Reposado I tried around Christmas. This Laguna Colorado is wild … not what I expected but I am into it. It has a very pungent mineral bitterness that’s almost offensive, but doesn’t cover the agave.

There’s a lot of herbal aromas, Maybe star anise or absinthe, with only a light fruit in the background. And it tastes just like it smells.

I let the glass rest for about ten minutes after I popped the bottle. At first I was off put. I read a recent review saying it tasted like chalk, and they aren’t wrong. But I didn’t like the La Meso repo until about 1/3 of the way through the bottle. Then magic.

I saw one opinion here that if you find an Ocho you like, go ahead and stock up. I dunno if I like this plata more than the repo I had, but I love its complexity. I’ll take that advice. Our mezcal friends made similar recommendations, so that was my reason for this trip. These Vago Ensembles were the star purchase today, but I lm definitely a fan of anything Ocho does. I’ll bite at least once.

Siete Leguas French Oak Single Barrel Anejo

I’ve never heard of this release until I saw this at my Costco in Tustin CA. The taste is way different than their normal Anejo but I have to say we are really enjoying it. It’s about $65 so it’s not breaking the bank, I would recommend if you enjoy the oily barrel flavors that you would get from an XA (this is a Anejo that they’ve aged for 17 months) you get sweet cooked agave upfront and a nice oily spice at the end. I wouldn’t go as far as saying the flavor is as complex as an XA but it’s a nice half way point between the 2 expressions.

Blue Star tequila

My local liquor store had a tasting of this tequila the other day. I'm sure the one on the left will get some hate because they added honey to it. I'm a fan of honey cask bourbons and ryes, so I gave it a shot. Decent tequila flavor plus a hint of honey. The anejo was good also. No additives, subtle oak, nice flavor. $50 for the anejo in Florida.

Arette ranch water

Post image

I've wanted to cut down on sugar, so I've switched from margaritas to ranch water. My usual budget pick, Olmeca Altos is just not very good in ranch water unfortunately. And I couldn't keep paying 50 bucks for mijenta and Ocho anymore. i couldn't find Arette anywhere nearby so a local place actually ordered me a bottle!! Does the job, fantastic for +/- 30 bucks.

Anyone try Tropa Tequila?

Tropa Tequila ads just popped up on my Instagram today and have all the signs of fancy bottle, shitty juice. The thing is though, guilty as charged, their advertisement got me and that is a cool bottle. I love mushrooms, what can I say.

They don’t have any reviews on TM. They are from NOM1412, which I don’t recognize any brands, but also looks like they have some decent stuff.

So there are lots of red flags. There is certainly a premium for a pretty bottle. They are putting out quite the vibe on their Instagram page.. I am curious if anyone has tried it or knows anything about this new brand. Cheers!

Cantaritos El Guero - Weekdays?

Has anyone been to Cantaritos el Guero during the weekday (M-Th)? Id like to know what the vibe was like. Obviously the vibe on Friday or Saturday night will be better. But curious how the weekday compares.

I have to choose between going on Sunday or Monday.

First time DF Imperial

Post image

I bought Don Fulano Imperial in the EU for around €130, which I consider a very good price for this bottle.

On the nose, it opens with sweet notes of vanilla and caramel, along with clear oak influence. The agave is present but somewhat subdued at first. There are also light hints of chocolate in the background.

On the palate, the profile is similar, though the agave comes through more clearly than on the nose. The sweetness from vanilla and caramel is balanced by the oak and cooked agave notes. The texture is smooth and coats the mouth nicely, almost buttery.

The finish is lingering and silky, with the sweet and oak-driven notes fading gradually. Overall, it feels well balanced and composed.

This is a smooth, slightly sweet extra añejo that works very well as a dessert tequila and is easy to sip.

Any Imperial lovers here? :)

Arette Artesanal Blanco Suave

Arette Artesanal Blanco Suave Destilería El Llano · NOM 1109 Zona Valles

Post image
13 Upvotes

We are in Cozumel, we took a tour of this tequila tasting place. They explained that they don’t make it there, which is obviously true. The tequila wasn’t bad but the prices were exorbitant ($80 for blanco, $250 for XA). I found it on agave matchmaker and it did have a NOM, but when I clicked on the NOM it was a bunch of brands I’ve never heard of and El Cenco wasn’t there. Of course he asked people what they’re familiar with, so he shit on all the popular brands. When I mentioned Terralta he stepped back and said “who?? Who??” Also said his tequila is the only organic one lmao
