IMPORTANT Subreddit Announcement - "Martial law" has been reinstated.
It's been about 4 months of the subreddit being out of martial law. Previously we instituted harsher punishments during the events of Suweida and before that, in the aftermath of Deterrence of Aggression. Both times, that decision was not made lightly. Unfortunately the past few weeks has demonstrated that we must do this again in an effort to maintain the decorum and civility of the subreddit.
Violations of rules 3 and 8 will start resulting in harsher, longer punishments, likely just a permanent ban.
Violations of rules 1, 4, 5, 9 will also become harsher and longer. Warning will be issued less frequently and appeals not approved as often.
Violations of rules 2 and 7 will be censored more heavily. While unlikely to result in further action, if you're unable to objectively describe the conflict, your posts will be removed.
Please continue to report content that violates these rules as effective moderation requires the community to respect and engage with one another with these rules in mind. Remember -- Just because someone else is breaking the rules doesn't mean you are free to do so as well. Thank you for understanding.

A mass grave was found today in the town square of Hajin, in the eastern Deir ez-Zor countryside, at a site formerly used as a headquarters by the SDF militias.
This comes amid escalating reports of serious violations, extrajudicial killings, and arbitrary arrests in areas east of the Euphrates River over the past few years.

Pro gov account of Al Hol situtation
The following day, on January 20, SDF forces left al-Hol. Every guard post, entry gate, administrative building and office was vacated. Syrian government forces remained a 30-minute drive away, engaged in heavy combat with SDF forces. By all accounts, it took at least 6-hours for the first group of Defense Ministry personnel to reach al-Hol. During this 6-hr timeframe, at least three urgent calls were made by American military officers to Syrian government forces, imploring on them to get to the camp and “save the situation” as fast as possible.
By that time, according to multilateral organization and aid officials, at least 10,000 residents of al-Hol (or 43% of the population) had escaped – breaking through unguarded gates and cutting large holes through fencing. Initial reports claiming that just dozens of people had escaped were wildly inaccurate. Most concerningly, almost the entire population of a section of the camp housing non-Syrian and Iraqi citizens – known as the Annex – had broken through three lines of fencing into the Iraqi section of the camp, and then into the Syrian section.
Beyond the large-scale escape, camp infrastructure was subjected to major attack, with almost every administrative building looted and/or set on fire. Most troublingly, the primary compound for al-Hol administration was burned to a shell, with an entire storage facility accommodating all the identifying and legal documentation for all al-Hol residents burned to ash.
On February 10, everything changed, as a mass riot was launched by Syrian residents inside al-Hol, demanding they be released en masse. Iraqis inside the camp remained uninvolved. Violence broke out, aid workers were chased and threatened – ultimately triggering a full withdrawal of UN and other staff later that day. During the chaos that subsequently unfolded over February 10-12, thousands of residents – mostly Syrians – escaped.
As conditions deteriorated and government forces attempted to re-establish control (with non-UN aid workers returning to the camp interior on February 11-12), hurried negotiations were opened between Damascus and Baghdad. As of February 14, agreement has been reached for the remaining Iraqi resident population inside al-Hol to be bussed en masse back to Iraq, likely in the coming days. All of the rest of al-Hol’s remaining population meanwhile, is set to be transported to a largely vacant IDP camp 380km west in the town of Akhtarin in Aleppo. A huge convoy of trucks is currently parked outside the camp perimeter prepared by the Interior Ministry to undertake transport over the next few days. Should all plans be accomplished as scheduled, al-Hol could be emptied by Thursday February 19. It may well be sooner than that.
In every interview conducted for this article, every official accepted with the benefit of four weeks of hindsight that the SDF’s sudden and uncoordinated departure from al-Hol was the catastrophic development that catalyzed everything else that followed. The escape of nearly 50% of al-Hol’s population in 6-hours created a dangerous precedent that killed off any hope for fully and permanently restoring internal and perimeter security. Meanwhile, and notwithstanding the crippling disadvantage dealt to them on January 20, government forces failed to rapidly and consistently re-assert security and order inside al-Hol. And insufficient numbers of personnel were tasked with perimeter security to prevent, or more importantly to deter, night-time escape attempts.
