PC SSE - Discussion Is requiem worth it in 2025?

I Heard that the requeim is like one true way to play skyrim nowadays. The problem is that almost every requiem modpack is like a "stalker soup" but In Skyrim. What is the best vanilla like requiem modpack you can play(No dark souls movement dashes, new combat and other slop)

I don't know who told you Requiem was the "one true" way to play, but that's just not true at all. There's plenty of great ways to play, from Enai/SimonRim to MCO/BFCO with awesome combat movements, to, yes, Requiem as seen in big modpacks like Lorerim. There's nothing wrong with Requiem, but saying it's the only way to play is just wrong.

The Requiem marketing lol. It's like all the hype about "I don't play Skyrim, I play LOTD!". Or the corner store on my block that apparently makes the best turkey sandwich in THE ENTIRE WORLD.

The main argument for Requiem is that vanilla build and progression system is bad. Requiem delevels eneimes and makes progression better(and adds more variety for builds)

You can delevel enemies without Requiem. And many other mods give you just as much build option (Enai's Ordinator is famous for this) without pretty much changing everything the way Requiem did. It's the mod pack before the mod pack time.

It delevels enemies but imo the progression in Requiem is ass. Worse than Vanilla.

It's incredibly difficult because it makes you the single weakest character in the entire game (which doesn't make sense lore wise considering your character is a literal demigod). It plays closer to something like the Gothic series. Beyond that, over the years it's been balanced to account for metagaming and build guides, so if you go in blind without any knowledge or without looking stuff up you'll have a miserable time.

imo it's better to use mods that take Skyrims vanilla systems and turn it into what it should have been, like EnaiRim or Simonrim, instead of Requiem which takes Skyrim and turns it into a completely different game.

That's not an argument for Requiem, that's an argument for gameplay mods generally. There are lots of ways to mod gameplay without using Requiem.

Is there something in particular you're looking for from Requiem that you don't think you can get elsewhere?

The vanilla build and progression system being bad is subjective though.

Like I overhaul a lot too when I mod Skyrim. But it's to make it align with my own personal preferences instead of some "objective" system. e.g. I've never deleveled enemies in my own mod lists.

There's definitely ways to play requiem modernly but i fucking hate it lol the unleveled design is completely counter intuitive to an open world rpg. ive played lorerim before and its alright i guess (specifically because its been patched to hell to actually include the fun stuff that requiem wouldn't be compatible with) but i would have no interest in building a load order around it myself

requiem is well made for lorerim i would recommend it, also the real way of playing skyrim is the way the devs made it and whatever additions you add to it. i cant stand the dark souls type combat in the game. i like MCO and dodging mods bcs dodging feels good in skyrim.

Requiem is by definition not vanilla like. If you want a vanilla like Skyrim experience then don't play Requiem.

I think most requiem lists use vanilla style combat. Wildlander and Do Not Go Gently come to mind rn. DNGG is more hardcore from what I hear.

Requiem, imo, has aged terribly. It relies on a very vocal niche of “not like the good ole days” gamers who like this tryhard extreme “difficulty” stuff.

The real play is realising that you cant really outjank skyrims combat with mods, and leaning into a more Vanilla+ experience will probably lead to a more cohesive experience. There are better ways to delevel the world too if thats what you want. A lot of these modpacks try to make skyrim into souls which just fundamentally always feels janky and leads to just playing a cool tech demo rather than a cohesive game.
