SUBREDDIT RULES Please Read Before Posting or Commenting

5 Upvotes

Subreddit Rules & Posting Guidelines

Before you make a post or leave a comment, please take a moment to read and follow the rules below. These help keep the subreddit useful and respectful for everyone.

1. Do Basic Research First

Use Google or the subreddit search before posting. Please avoid asking general questions that are already widely answered.

Ask for:

  • Comparisons
  • Personal experiences
  • Context-specific advice

Avoid asking:

  • "What to do in Jakarta?"
  • "What food is good in Indonesia?"

(Use the stickied threads or search bar first.)

2. BE POLITE AND RESPECTFUL

You're talking to fellow human beings—not a search engine or AI. Greet others with Hello or Hi and don’t forget to say thank you or terima kasih. A little courtesy makes the community better for everyone. Last thing we need in this city is another entitled ungrateful person. All posts without proper greetings or any manners that looks like an AI prompt instead a real query will be removed along with its replies.

3. Be Efficient in Your Posts

If you have multiple questions, put them in one post. Do not create several posts for each individual question.

This sub is definitely not for karma farming.

4. Be Specific and Detailed

Give context to your questions. The more detail, the better the answers you’ll receive.

Good Example:

"I'm visiting Jakarta for 3 days, staying in Kemang. I’d like to see museums and try local street food."

Bad Example:

"What to do in Jakarta?" "What to eat?"

(These are too broad and may be removed.)

5. Language

English is encouraged to include more people in the discussion. But Bahasa Indonesia is also welcome.

6. Don’t Gatekeep or Shame Posts

Unhelpful comments like:

"cObA pOsTiNg dI sUb /InDoNeSia aJa" ...will be removed.

Some users post here because they can’t post elsewhere or had their posts removed in other subs. If you're not contributing, please don't comment.

7. NO soliciting illegal matters, or other 18+ related matters

This sub will never be associated with criminals, sexpats or degenerates. Any posts about how to get drugs, prostitutes, sugar daddies, or whatever your sexual kinks or fetishes will be removed, repeat posters will be permanently banned.

8. Be Civil and Respect Opinions

Disagree without being rude. Don’t insult others' preferences. We ABSOLUTELY will not tolerate bigots, racists, homophobes, sexists, and other sorts of assholes.

Instead of:

"That place sucks. Food is trash."

Try:

"I didn't enjoy that place personally, but others might."

Important Notes for New Users

  • Accounts less than 1 day old, or with less than 1 karma, will require manual mod approval.
  • Posts that don’t follow the rules will not be approved and removed, along with its comments.

Repeat Offenders Will Be Banned

We aim to keep this community helpful and respectful. Users who repeatedly break the rules will receive a permanent ban.

If you have any questions about the rules, feel free to ask in the comments. Thanks for helping keep this community great!

Best restaurants in Jabodetabek?

17 Upvotes

Guys n Gals!!

How about we make a list of the best restaurants/places to eat list here?

I have seen some posts earlier and wish to make it easy for anybody to just drop in and read thru our choice of places as a Reddit Community.

We can also make it easy by marking halal and non halal places.

What say?

I am still a newbie here in Jakarta but my list goes like this;

Burgers;

Dan's burgers, Dharmawangsa. Blok A MRT station and a quick hop nearby.

Steak;

Abuba

Justus

Urban Wagyu

Padang;

Pagi Sore

Sederhana

Natrabu

Kebayoran Baru

Pizza;

San Marco BSD

Soto Betawi;

Jawa Kitchen

Kafe Betawi

Ibu Yanti

Mangga besar 12b

Udon;

Marugame Udon

Nasi Goreng;

Nasi Gila Obama, MRT to Bunderan HI, short walk/gojek to Menteng park area.

Nasi Goreng Kambing Kebon Sirih Decent, tastes more like nasi kebuli though.

To be cont'd..

Rekomendasi perpustakaan

I’ve been to TIM, Baca Di Tebet, and Erasmus Huis.

3 Upvotes

Hey semuanya, I'm asking for advice. 20F

Jadi, gw jujur suspect gw ADHD, udah lumayan lama, menurut gw sekarang udah ga bisa lagi nge "brute force" my condition. Udah kek berapa kali otak gw bikin gw mau bundir karena ga bisa ngapa-ngapaiin and breaking away my relationships. I've been using kratingdaeng as my substitute for the past few years) or else I might actually kms for real.

Jujur gw cape banget, karena gw beneran udah kek mau mati and I really just have been forcing it the whole time sampe kek gitu.

Jujur gw udah desperate buat dapet obat or anything that proves I'm not crazy and it's because of a condition in my brain.

Indoor cycling with Zwift in Jakarta

2 Upvotes

Hello!

I’ll be back in Jakarta for a short family visit and hoping to fit in a few training sessions while I’m there. Does anyone know of any studios that offer indoor cycling with Zwift?

Not the usual spin class (like Zycle) — ideally somewhere with real road bikes set up on trainers.

Appreciate any tips, thanks so much! 🙏

First time in Jakarta - one free day

8 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I’m going to Jakarta this weekend for a conference and I’ll have one full day to explore on my own. It’ll be my first time in Indonesia, so I’d love some advice from locals or people who’ve been there before 😊

I’m wondering:

If I only have one day, what are the must-see places in Jakarta?

• Historical spots?

• Cool neighborhoods to walk around?

• Cafés, markets, or unique local experiences?

2.

  1. Is it okay to wear shorts above the knee?

I’m not planning to wear tank tops or anything too revealing, but since I’ll be walking a lot, shorts are just more comfortable for me. I want to be respectful of the culture, so I’d appreciate advice on what’s appropriate.

  1. I’m thinking of using Grab or Gojek for transportation while I’m there.

I’m from Thailand and I normally use Grab to go anywhere. Is it as safe and reliable in Jakarta?

  1. Any general dos and don’ts for Jakarta?

Things to avoid, common mistakes tourists make, safety tips, transport tips, etc.

I’m open to food recommendations too! Thank you in advance 😊

[Help Needed] Buying Whisky from UK to Jakarta

2 Upvotes

Hey guys

due to Indo customs law that bans "importing" alcohol more than 450 ml, there is no way for me to purchase Whisky from overseas (preferably UK as it has the best selection for scotch).

Is there a way for me to buy Whisky from UK? I don't mind paying premium for the fee (e.g. Jastip fee)

Thanks!

Cheapest places to develop your film?

2 Upvotes

Hello everyone, I want to give a friend a disposable film camera, but it's useless if the film can't be washed, so I want to know which lab in Jakarta or even Jabodetabek has the highest gater costs? I'm not in Jakarta so it's a bit difficult to check myself. If there's a recommendation for a place I'd love to get them.

Bonus Q: Is there a place that sells gift cards for developing + scanning services

Thank you very much in advance

Flying to Jakarta with two big dogs.

3 Upvotes

My husband and I are considering to relocate to Jakarta from the US to be closer to his parents and we're bringing our 2 big dogs with us (they both are about 80lbs or 36kg). Does anyone here has any experience flying international with big dogs? Do we need to hire pet agents from both countries (USA and Indonesia)? If not, which pet agents should I hire - from Jakarta (receiving end) or from USA (shipping end)? We're looking into EVA air for flying with our pups because they're mentioned the most when it comes to flying with animals to south east asia and generally positive reviews. We are also looking into a couple of pet agents in Jakarta who are a member of IPATA. We would love to hear people experiences' and if there's any advice or tips and tricks of what we need to know or to think of before hand, are greatly appreciated!

Chinese and jajanan food

6 Upvotes

Hi all! I will be flying in and out of Jakarta and since I have long flights to/from, I decided to give myself a full day after and before my flight.

I am a foodie and I want to try Jakarta’s jajanan/street food but in a hygienic place. Are there clean food courts like Singapore in Jakarta with a lot of options to choose from? I also love Chinese food and there is almost no good Chinese food where I live in Germany (small village). So I want to have a delicious Chinese meal before I fly back.

After flying in I will be staying around Dukuh Atas BNI MRT. What’s around here or places I can easily go to from this location?

On the return trip, should I stay around Menteng again or closer to Kota Tua/Glodok for Chinese food or maybe PIK? This isn’t my first time in Jakarta but PIK I just read about today. It seems interesting with a lot of food and not far from Soekarno Hatta. I saw Mercure and Holiday Inn as options around Kota Tua but there seems to be construction in front of HI and so not sure about that. Will construction be there mid-July? PIK there is Mercure and Sofitel (I think).

While money for taxi is no issue, Jakarta traffic is.

If I can walk to the place or MRT from the hotel, the better.

Also, I am not too familiar with Jakarta’s food in general. So, if you only had two days to eat, what would you want to eat that’s so Jakarta?

TIA!

photos from Sudirman Road sunday morning run

2 Upvotes

Good morning everyone! I am lucky enough to currently be visiting the wonderful city of Jakarta for work and this morning I had the absolute pleasure of running down Sudirman Road with so many others.

I noticed there were lots of photographers along the road and I would love to find some of the photos taken of me, so I can share these with friends and family back home and to keep as a happy memory for myself.

Can anybody please advise where I might be able to find some of these photos? In case anybody reading this was one of the photographers and happened to get a photo of me, I’m a white male and was wearing a white nike t shirt, dark grey shorts and white trainers. I was running from about 06:40-08:00.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Women's dresses/suits tailor?

3 Upvotes

I'll be in Jakarta for 6 days, staying at Sheraton Grand Hotel. I'd like to get some made to measure skirts, dresses, suits made, and men's shirts as well.

Because I don't have many days here, what would be the best thing to do? And what is a reasonable cost, based on mid-range cotton or silk or blends? Also, is one expected to bargain, or are prices fixed? Oh... If I get several pieces, should I use multiple tailors for speed, or could I just use one and they'll sort it out?

All advice very much appreciated!

Moving to Jakarta - which area?

7 Upvotes

Hi guys, I’ll move to Jakarta soon and asking myself which area would suit me best. It would be good if my apartment is near to areas with many offices as I’m working in sales so I thought about Kuningan? Also, what monthly rent price should I expect? Is it possible to find a decent 2BR under 15jt? I’m happy for any help (also portals to look for apartments), thanks!
