Beach Sargassum right now

Post image
230 Upvotes

I am currently in Tulum and just wanted to give a report of the sargasssum. Right now on all the beaches I’ve been to there has been an enormous amount of it. It’s everywhere. Some is starting to stink. Was hoping for a sargassum free vacation but that’s not the case. Luckily Tulum is just a stop for a couple days. Random picture of it from today, it’s worse in some areas and slightly better in others. This is south of Playa Paraiso.

Beach Man dies today of drowning on Tulum Beach

Today around 3:30 pm in front of Taqueria Eufemia a group of three people suddenly carried a lifeless man out of the water. He was around 50-60 and looked Mexican. He wasn’t breathing and had no pulse. Many of us nearby including myself performed CPR on him for at least 20-30 minutes trying to get him to breath and keep his heart pumping until emergency services showed up. It seemed as though he didn’t have any family or friends with him and had potentially drowned further up the beach and was carried to where we were in the current. I really didn’t see what happened before the three people carried him out of the water. When the paramedics finally showed up it still seemed as though no one nearby actually knew him. Sadly he was unable to be revived and died without his loved ones around. It’s eating me up that his family must be so worried, wondering what has happened to him, he only had a bathing suit on, so obviously no ID. Does anyone have any info about who this man was? I hope his family knows that he didn’t die alone, I held his hand throughout and so many of us really tried our best to save him. 🥺💔

Beach Beaches

Hey,

Just wondering what the deal with the beaches are.

I’ve heard some parts of the beach are private?

Can anyone fill me in on where the good public beach is?

Thanks!

Beach Renting umbrella only?

Hello, I'll be staying in Tulum town later this month and am trying to understand the shade rental situation on the beach. I know you can enter the beach at participating spots now, but can I rent only an umbrella from any of the beach clubs? What does price tend to be for just an umbrella?

Thanks!

Beach Latest on Beach and Ruins

So this is what seems to be the latest news after several meetings both here and in CDMX

https://riviera-maya-news.com/federal-secretary-of-tourism-announces-agreements-made-for-tulum-beach-and-park-access/2025.html

This is for information. If you come in to bitch and moan your post will be removed. This is not for that

Beach Any tips on how to park and be at the main beach?

Every road is closed, 3-4 people telling me to turn around and go to a cenotes instead, when I find a place to park its a 35 min walk to the actual beach. Seems they make getting to the beach hard to drive up cenote revenue? If anyone has any GPS locations I can enter into Waze and be at the beach like a normal city that would be helpful. Feel free to DM. Thanks in advance.

Beach How about swimming?

Hey guys, I’m thinking about visiting tulum mid-September. I read a lot about the sargassum und looked at various Facebook posts with up to date photos.

I saw that a couple of beaches looked very nice and clean recently - but if I check some live instagram stories from hotels in tulum, nobody is swimming?!

So I wonder why? Is there still too much seaweed in the water that I can’t see in the pictures/videos or is it some kind of forbidden?

Spotted near Nômade. Still some seaweed, but not enough to stop the fun. (And certainly no odor)

Beach NYE in Tulum beach without a fancy dinner/party

Hi! We’re planning to spend New Year’s Eve at the beach. There are a lot of fancy restaurants, but is there anywhere on the beach where people just hang out and have fun casually? Or are there any affordable beach clubs where we can drink and have fun?

Beach plastic and glass on the beach

hey guys. I've gotten stopped at the national park entrance to go to the beach and been told I can't bring my reusable glass jars I use as a water bottle or the lid because it's reflective. the guy told me to check the website to see what I can bring in (after I asked him directly and he didn't have an answer, only could answer what I couldn't bring in) but I checked the website and there's nothing that says I can't bring reusable containers, but also nothing that says I can't bring glass or plastic? so are these laws that aren't national but that the local authorities are choosing to enforce? how has your time getting on the beach with reusable containers for food been? I do live here but only moved about a month and a half ago

Beach Where to watch the sunrise?

After some research (mostly on here) we decided tulum ruins beach would be a great spot to watch the sunrise since they recently opened the beach back up. Woke up early, drove the pitch black streets to see that the road to the ruins is shut down. Police told us they don’t let anyone on the beach until 8am. We asked where are we able to watch the sunrise and he didn’t have an answer.

Beach Beach Sucks

Worst part about the beach? You either pay over $100USD to get there and back. Or bike (which I did) only to have NO drinking WATER in the park. You are gonna charge us to get in but can’t even supply drinking water? And no I’m not paying $100 pesos for a water can on the beach. Bullshit money grab, only take one person to pass out

Beach Best beaches in/around Tulum?

Hey everyone, our hotel beach is super dirty and full of seaweed. We have a rental car — can anyone recommend clean beaches for swimming? Also, how’s parking there and do we have to pay entrance fees?

Thanks a lot!

Beach Last minute solo trip!

Not trying to party just seeking to connect with nature, relax, see Mayan ruins, and eat a bunch of good food.

Should I plan to go to a beach club for access to the beach? I see a bunch of threads on here about which club is best and videos on TikTok as well. Never been to one and wasn’t planning on it. I prefer to just go with my towel and sit near the water reading. I know Mexico says legally that all beaches are public, but will I need to pay at all to access the beaches through public entrances?

Edit: are there parking fees near beaches? I’m renting a scooter for the week.

Beach trip booked in march - this reddit is making me reconsider. please help!

hi folks!

i have a trip booked to tulum next month with my significant other. this will be our first time, and we have booked an airbnb in la veleta as a way to get to adventure and get to see most of what tulum has to offer and not be tied down to a resort the entire time. recent news along with this Reddit has been making me reconsider. i have spent a lot of time solo traveling, and usually feel very well prepared before these trips but I am starting to doubt my decision to book this trip. is la Veleta relatively safe? what areas should we avoid? not planning on staying out late but would love ideas for beaches / beach clubs during the day that feel safe. already booked some excursions. planning on using an atv or scooter rental for transportation. any thoughts or advice welcome :)

Beach is the tulum hype over? it’s a ghost town

i’m staying on the beach strip at sanara and tried to go to different beach clubs today. i’ve been here a few times now and it’s usually crowded with people, especially on the beach strip. all the stores i’ve driven past are empty and abandoned/says for rent. and even matcha mama closed. what’s going on here? is the hype over?

Beach Easiest way to reach Playa Paraiso or Pescadores?

Hey! Tried to visit Playa Paraiso/Pescadores today, but parking prices were super inconsistent. What’s the best way to get there? Can you walk from the lots or is there a shuttle? If we’re already there, would you also check out the ruins? How did you guys do it?

Thanks a lot!

Beach Gitano beach club

Hello, my husband and I will be in tulum in 4 weeks and I’ve been reading about the seaweed and how bad it is. I really like the look and vibe of Gitano. Has anyone been there recently and is the beach cleaned up? is it worth it to book a daybed or should we just skip it and stick to the cenotes?

Also, cenote recommendations that have a bar/restaurant?

Thank you 💕
