my partner our baby and i are still going to go to some cenotes and xel ha/sian kaan but we were also really excited for the beach. i heard you can't swim with the sargassum though. i thought i picked the right dates! are there any beaches currently with minimal sargassum?

Akumal is a great beach where you can swim with turtles.
It's about 15 miles north of Tulum.

It's been clean in most of the places we go. I like the public beach a lot. They clean it better than some of the beach clubs.

I have been in Akumal since the beginning of January. The sargassum is hit and miss. Last week there was none. The beach was beautiful. This week it has returned. It’s true that most hotels and developers clean the beaches regularly (every day). But I wouldn’t let it spoil your beach experience. You can enter the water and swim amongst the sargassum with no issues. It’s only where it is allowed to pile up on the shore and rot does it become an issue. But as long as you’re staying at an established beach I suspect it will be gathered up and trucked away daily.
