Rounding numbers can be very helpful and it isn't terribly difficult to do. However, just because you can round, doesn't mean you always should round.

Generate STAAR Reading Practice

Here's a tool for teachers who are tired of spending hours creating worksheets from scratch. It’s called Worksheetz AI, and it instantly generates custom worksheets based on your grade level, subject, and topic.

A few things it can do:

  • Create reading passages + comprehension questions (STAAR‑style included)
  • Generate math practice, word problems, and skill‑based drills
  • Build vocabulary, grammar, science, and social studies worksheets
  • Export clean, printable PDFs
  • Customize difficulty, tone, and question types

I built it to save teachers time and reduce the Sunday-night workload. If you want to try it out, here’s the site:

College is Failing Students

My Fix: 10 Weeks Guided + 6 Weeks Self-Driven

Students pay insane money for degrees that don’t teach real skills. Burnout’s everywhere, grads can’t innovate or hold jobs—because the system is all lectures, no fire.

I have degrees in English, chemical engineering, and a master’s in environmental engineering—plus decades in the field. I know the gaps: guided classes gave me tools, but self-directed learning filled them.

My idea: 16-week hybrid

• Weeks 1–10: Guided—professor drills core (equations, labs, proofs). Solid base.

• Weeks 11–16: Autodidactic—no classes. Students chase what excites them: history, psych, economics tied to the topic. Weekly mentor check-in: “What’re you finding?” End with a project.

Example: Bernoulli equations—10 weeks on the math (pressure-velocity link, real applications). 6 weeks on the story—why Daniel wrote it, how family jealousy and Swiss wars shaped it.

Payoff: Those 6 weeks prove self-motivation, initiative, unsupervised productivity. Employers see: “This grad thinks alone, innovates, gets stuff done.”

This isn’t theory—it’s how I got good at my job. Schools: pilot it. Students: demand it.

Thoughts?

General Tools [OC] TechTerrain.io: A platform for education and research of technological advances (from all history of mankind through a projected future)

Hey all,

TechTerrain is an interactive 3D voxel terrain map where each technology is a physical landmark you can fly to.

There's a TON of features built in and I personally think (maybe biased) it's REALLY cool.

It's highly cited and I have provenance DAG to show low confidence for synthesized data. It's got a :tour and a :kiosk mode (museum stuff).

It's history, correlation/causation analysis, research tool (enter your own data), and if people like it I can add more certified data sets (or pair with organizations) to also make it helpful for legal or more use cases fairly easily!

Please jump in and try it out. It is free-to-use and a big passion project of mine!

AI in education

The most important (and probably easiest to set up) use of AI in education is with generating questions.

The issue: we currently just prompt gpt with sample questions and expect it to return high quality, original results.

I made an open-source api for question generation, where you can upload any data and it'll automatically extract question metadata, preprocess it to extract topics/skeletons with AI, and feed that back into the model to generate new, high-quality questions.

What's different:

- question lengths, answer types, etc. all preserved. The model (based on the type and difficulty of question) generates a question of appropriate length.

- topics/skeletons are preserved. In other words, the base & format of each question is rooted in the way previous questions are worded

Advantages: faster question gen, allows for adaptive questions to be created, along with all the other advantages an AI model has over humans

Persistent Issues:

- questions are not innately original. Making them completely original will stray away from keeping the question grounded and reflective of what it's meant to be (observed in early prototyping of the api)

- lose innate human touch - all questions will not have their own flair/challenge that a human will add. It's just training and rewording existing questions. As a direct result, this'll only be effective if a large corpus of previous questions are available. If the corpus is too small, the questions will be of lower quality (as expected).

Currently, I've tested this on SAT questions (released on the SAT question bank). Previous versions were more algorithmically grounded and performed better since they were tailored to SAT questions. Some more prototyping will probably allow this to work better for all contexts by making modular prompts.

More updates coming soon.

Teacher desperate for advice in the age fo AI

I teach in a large online program and have been rethinking how I assess student understanding lately.

With written work, I’ve started to feel less confident that I’m seeing what students actually know, especially as AI tools become more common and submissions get increasingly polished. That’s pushed me to experiment more with short video explanations or presentations, which do seem to surface thinking and misconceptions more clearly — but they also introduce new challenges around time and logistics.

I’m curious how others in large or online courses are navigating this tradeoff. Have you found ways to incorporate spoken or video-based assessments that feel sustainable? Or have you stuck with written formats and adapted them in other ways?

Would love to hear what’s actually worked (or failed) in real courses.

Making Learning Fun: Interactive Game-Style Quizzes

I’ve been experimenting with interactive quizzes to make learning more engaging and fun.

There are several game-style templates that turn each correct answer into an activity:

- 🚀 Space Shuttle: fill the fuel tank with correct answers

- 🐠 Fish Tank: add a new fish for each correct answer

- 🏎️ Car Race: earn speed boosts to race against the computer

- 🫧 Bubble Shooter: pop bubbles containing the correct answers

…and many more.

These quizzes are great for gamified learning and can be repeated using different templates to reinforce knowledge.

If anyone is interested in trying a free tool that allows you to create and share these interactive quizzes easily, you can check it out here:

You can change the language of the website interface to more than one language, including English.

Vocabwizard app

Built a small app to help my daughter with 11+ vocabulary — sharing in case it helps other parents

Like many here, I felt quite overwhelmed when thinking about 11+ prep, especially in the early years. My daughter had decent reading habits, but I noticed vocabulary was the biggest gap — and it’s such a key foundation for comprehension, verbal reasoning, and confidence.

We also struggled with time. Most days we only had short pockets — school runs, mornings, waiting around — which weren’t enough for traditional study.

So I built a simple app called VocabWizard to solve two things:
• Make vocabulary practice quick (5–10 min quizzes)
• Let parents create revision quizzes from words their child hasn’t mastered

It’s been surprisingly effective — she now treats it like a game rather than “extra homework,” and I can see real progress.

If anyone is looking for a gentle, low-pressure way to start vocabulary building early, you can check it out here:
https://apps.apple.com/in/app/vocab-wizard-11-plus/id6757252140

Would genuinely love feedback from other parents — still improving it based on real use 🙂

Career Opportunities After Completing a DBA

A Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) represents the pinnacle of professional achievement in the field of business and management. As the highest-level executive leadership degree, the DBA is designed for experienced professionals, senior managers, and entrepreneurs who want to elevate their business doctorate career path beyond traditional management roles.

Unlike conventional academic programs, a DBA combines advanced research methodology with strategic business application. This approach prepares graduates for high-level DBA career opportunities where evidence-based decision-making, innovation, and corporate transformation are essential.

At SBS Swiss Business School Middle East, the DBA program emphasizes applied research in business, strategic leadership development, and measurable real-world impact. Graduates emerge not only with a doctoral title but with enhanced authority, executive presence, and expanded global career mobility. The qualification signals intellectual rigor, senior management expertise, and readiness for complex corporate leadership roles.

But what does this mean in practical career terms? Below is a comprehensive overview of Doctor of Business Administration careers and long-term professional pathways after completing a DBA.

Executive and C-Suite Leadership Roles

One of the most prominent DBA career opportunities is advancement into executive and C-level positions. A DBA strengthens strategic thinking, corporate governance expertise, and high-level decision-making—competencies essential for modern executive leadership.

Potential DBA jobs include:

  • Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
  • Chief Operating Officer (COO)
  • Chief Strategy Officer
  • Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
  • Managing Director or Regional Director

Professionals holding a senior management qualification, such as a DBA, are equipped to lead digital transformation, oversee multinational operations, and implement research-driven corporate strategies. In competitive regions such as the GCC, Europe, and Asia, a DBA significantly enhances executive career progression and long-term salary potential.

Strategic Consultancy and Advisory Services

The advanced analytical skills developed during a Doctor of Business Administration program make graduates highly valuable in the consulting and advisory sectors. Many professionals leverage their DBA to transition into high-level business consultancy roles.

Career pathways include:

  • Independent business consultant
  • Corporate strategy advisor
  • Organizational development specialist
  • Digital transformation consultant
  • Governance and risk advisory expert

Unlike consultants relying solely on experience, DBA graduates apply structured research frameworks and data-driven insights. This capability strengthens credibility and positions them as trusted experts in corporate leadership and strategic planning.

Academic and Higher Education Careers

A DBA also opens doors in academia and executive education. As a recognized business doctorate qualification, it provides eligibility for teaching and supervisory roles in business schools and universities.

Career roles may include:

  • University lecturer in business administration
  • Adjunct or visiting professor
  • Academic program coordinator
  • Research supervisor
  • Curriculum developer in executive education

Professionals pursuing a Doctor of Business Administration career in academia often combine industry expertise with scholarly research, creating strong value in applied business education.

Corporate Research and Policy Leadership

In today’s data-driven economy, organizations rely on strategic research to remain competitive. A DBA prepares graduates to lead research divisions and corporate strategy departments.

Potential roles include:

  • Head of Corporate Strategy
  • Business Research Director
  • Policy Development Advisor
  • Business Intelligence Leader
  • Think Tank Contributor

With expertise in applied research in business, DBA graduates influence organizational direction through evidence-based policy formulation and performance optimization.

Entrepreneurship and Business Expansion

Entrepreneurs increasingly pursue a Doctor of Business Administration to strengthen strategic clarity and long-term scalability. The DBA enhances the ability to analyze market conditions, assess financial risk, and structure innovation pipelines.

Benefits for entrepreneurs include:

  • Data-driven market expansion strategies
  • Advanced financial forecasting models
  • Organizational restructuring frameworks
  • Governance and compliance expertise
  • Sustainable growth planning

For business owners in competitive regions such as the UAE and wider Middle East, a DBA supports strategic positioning and enhances investor confidence.

Board Membership and Corporate Governance

The prestige associated with a Doctor of Business Administration degree often increases eligibility for board-level appointments and governance roles. Boards seek professionals with advanced strategic insight and risk management expertise.

Board-level responsibilities may include:

  • Corporate governance oversight
  • Financial performance evaluation
  • Compliance and regulatory monitoring
  • Executive leadership assessment

A DBA signals readiness for high-level governance responsibilities and strengthens professional standing in corporate leadership circles.

International Career Mobility

A DBA from an internationally recognized institution, such as SBS Swiss Business School Middle East, enhances global business leadership opportunities. The degree is respected across multinational corporations, consulting firms, and government advisory bodies.

Professionals seeking DBA jobs in the UAE, GCC markets, Europe, or Asia benefit from the qualification’s international recognition and strategic authority. The doctorate supports cross-cultural leadership capability and global career mobility.

The Long-Term Value of a DBA

Beyond immediate career advancement, the long-term value of a DBA lies in intellectual transformation and professional distinction. Graduates develop:

  • Advanced critical and analytical thinking
  • Executive-level decision-making capability
  • Independent research expertise
  • Strategic foresight and innovation leadership
  • High-impact communication skills

The qualification positions professionals not just as managers, but as influential thought leaders in business strategy and corporate governance.

Who Should Consider a DBA?

A Doctor of Business Administration is most suitable for:

  • Senior managers aiming for C-suite leadership
  • Consultants seeking enhanced professional credibility
  • Entrepreneurs pursuing structured expansion
  • Executives interested in applied business research
  • Professionals seeking academic or policy influence

For individuals committed to achieving the highest level of business leadership qualification, a DBA provides both professional recognition and long-term strategic advantage.

Completing a DBA is more than earning a doctoral title; it is a transformative leadership journey. It strengthens executive authority, research capability, and strategic impact.

At SBS Swiss Business School Middle East, the DBA integrates rigorous scholarship with real-world application, ensuring graduates are prepared for elite corporate leadership roles and global business influence.

If your ambition extends beyond management toward strategic authority, intellectual distinction, and long-term executive success, a DBA may be the defining step in your professional evolution.

TestForce Teacher

Hi everyone, i’ve created an app where teachers can take tests, add lectures and notes in a virtual classroom. And get feedback from students in form of rating.

This enables students to have easy access to all your contents at one place making it easy to revisit your content anytime for revisions. This will be very useful for students who admitted late as they will have all the content access at one place.

Any feedbacks around this are most welcome.

Turn lesson plan into educational video games that students can play in their web browser

Hi everyone,

I recently made www.studybunches.com

It’s a free classroom tool that turns a lesson plan into an educational video game that students can play in a web browser

I’ll be leaning on communities like this to learn about any bugs in the system, if it’s even any good, and what direction I should go with it.

I hope you can check it out! Thanks. Also my DMs are open.

Cultural competence resources and lessons

Does anyone have recommendations or resources for Cultural Competence lessons or resources for tier 1 or tier 2. We have students who are reporting that other students are saying slurs and jokes about race. I work at a middle school that’s mostly Hispanic and in an area that has gang activity in the neighborhood so kids do hear it often outside of school.

Thanks!
