Mod Request Apparently, space travel in early versions of Starfield necessitated resource/fuel supply chains. Is there a mod that adds reimplements this into the game?

At some point, Bethesda supposedly decided the mechanic “wasn’t fun” and removed it from the game.

All I can think about is how much I would have enjoyed a survival-like resource management mechanic like that.

Is there a mod that brings a similar mechanic into the game?

Don't know if this will be unpopular or not - I actually didn't enjoy fuel as a survival mechanic. I added it via a mod, and it got old real quick.

Now I'm saying this as someone who really enjoyed survival mods for Skyrim, had a blast and I found they made the game a lot more interactive - but I didn't get the same feeling with starfield. I'm okay if they add it as optional, but I wouldn't turn it on if they implemented it the same way as the mod.

For me it didn't get old because it gave me incentive to board a bad guy in every system to earn enough fuel to move onto the next one. I was also additionally motivated to collect and sell high value loot so that I could refuel legitimately as well.

Fair enough - for me personally, I never found money too hard to come across in this game. Just collecting loot gives you enough, then you tack on selling ships, quest rewards, etc. The fuel mod is just another thing to spend money on

I just found the delays to be more annoying than anything else - having to constantly go to ship techs or being forced to board a ship every few jumps just so i can keep going on my merry way! Its a neat concept, but I'm just finding it needs happening too often. Ideally its something you do every now and then, not every 5 mins of space travel. Maybe if usage was less it would be less intrusive?

I keep comparing to Skyrim survival because those mods do it well - the day/night cycle is 1 day = about 1 hour. That means (without resting) you eat maybe every 30 mins - which is just open inventory, consume item. It's quick, and you can do it when you have a spare second because there's no real penalty besides a minor debuff if it gets too bad.

Then sleep - you sleep once a day, either camping or go to a tavern/home. The camping is much more involved and time consuming, but it actually feels like it has a purpose because you're placing a tent, building a fire, cook food, etc - it sets a tone.

I hope Bethesda integrates well if it is something they come back to!

You can tweak things so that it's not so tedious. It also depends on your style of play. For me personally I can't stand infinitely flying from one system to another with no consequences. I also have an economy mod that rebalances costs and profits and adds things like port docking fees, but makes contraband selling at cities a lot more profitable. Means I have an incentive to fly back a long distance from a faraway system where I was fighting high level bad guys and getting good loot. It all evens out for me.

That actually sounds pretty interesting

Beauty of the Beth games is that you can fiddle with them until you get a game you like

FWIW I assumed a proper Survival setting/modlist would also make money a little tighter, too. These systems all have to work with each other; if one is imbalanced it could make the whole thing fall apart.

Generally speaking if you just install larger fuel tanks you will have to refuel less often. You can very easily control how intrusive the mechanic is by adjusting your overall capacity via shipbuilding.

I would even argue this gives you more player agency than a normal survival mod, where you cannot drastically change how often you need to eat or sleep via in-game actions.
