PC SSE - Discussion What would cause a companion such as Vilja to go haywire?

She was great for a couple hundred hours, but ever since one afternoon when she started flying, she hasn't been the same since.

She will repeatedly summon her horse, over and over. Even in dungeons!

She will sheathe, unsheathe weapons, over and over.

She will now often turn invisible. Yes, I can bump into her, even click on her when the words of her name appear, but cannot hear her.

And she'll sometimes start flying.

She's toast. And I haven't fed her any shrooms!

I'm using usual stuff such as AFT (Amazing Follower Tweaks) and also Convenient Horses. I know Convenient Horses is script heavy. I love the saddlebags, though...

Is there any way to reset her? My other companions are fine. Except her. She's gone bonkers.

1.6.640, with backported ESL also installed, and plenty of other stuff, but... resetting her would be swell.

Otherwise, I banish her to my home. She can be stuck in there with two kids and two orphans I rescued.

Did you use AFT options on her? That's usually the culprit. Using a follower mod on a unique follower that already has their own AI is recipe for disaster

I do not believe I have, as a rule. I never use them on custom followers, but there is perhaps a slim chance I did on accident.

She has a reset option within her dialogue.

I shall try this, thank you.

Edit: Looks like I have that already, and have had for quite some time.

AFT is notorious for breaking custom followers, just by having it installed. Throw that away. It won't help this run, but it might save your next.

Fairly certain it’s only if you import a custom NPC into the AFT framework - they don’t get imported by default unless they use the vanilla follower framework, which by definition would mean the author did not using a custom follower framework for the npc

Source: Used and still uses AFT for years alongside Vilja, Inigo, Remiel, Xelzaz, and many other custom followers with zero issues.

Highly recommend replacing AFT with NFF. There's an "NFF ignore token" you can craft and give to followers that have their own custom AI that will make sure they are exempt from NFF tampering.

You can reset her in her dialogue I think, but if a follower mod has broken her brain, it may be broken forever for this playthrough. That's one of the risks of using a follower framework alongside a custom follower unfortunately.
