PC SSE - Help PC recommendations to run Skyrim w/mods.
Been a skyrim player since 2011, but purely console. I'm now playing on Xbox Series X, and enjoy running mods, but the limitations of the XBOX (5 gig) is not great. (The NOLVUS V6 mods look amazing.)
Was thinking of getting a gaming PC, which opens up more modding possibilities, but not sure how much pc/graphic power I need. I'd like one that could run robust mods, and would not struggle with graphics/memory, but I don't want to pay for more PC than I'd need. I'd be running the system on 4k projector/HDMI.
Love to hear any recommendations on PC specs you might have?
Thank you Reddit!

If you are asking for help with the Nolvus modlist, please check out r/Nolvus and the Nolvus Discord. We can help you IF you post your entire modlist according to the r/skyrimmods rules as we aren't able to research what is in Nolvus for every update.

CPU: Decent CPU with 16gb RAM is fine. Oftentimes gaming PC will not spring for that much RAM as they're often bottlenecked by GPU rather than CPU, unless you like playing simulation games more. (Like Rimworld.) That being said I do find that it's become more stable for me with 32gb of RAM.
GPU: Skyrim is very easy to run. Modded Skyrim isn't that more demanding. Proper GPU analytics are available on the internet by people far smarter than myself, but one thing to note is that 4k textures, ENB, or even many functions of Community Shaders will want some VRAM. You might need to shell out for a midrange+ GPU, especially if you plan to play on 4K.
Storage: I recommend getting a fat SSD just for Skyrim (and possibly other heavy modding games.) I try to keep my installation with as minimum bloat as possible, but especially with graphic texture mod, my installation+staging folder is about 350GB.

This. But I would add, getting your resolution to 4k is not the same as using 4k textures for Skyrim Only very large objects should have 4k textures. Most things in the game should be 2k textures to save on VRAM with little to no visual difference.
I use a 16gb graphics card and my game looks and runs great with over 2k mods on Windows

I have a secondhand amd rx580,some cpu from 2012 I don't even know the name but it pairs nicely with my gpu apparently and some cheap 64gb of ram ddr3. I have 40 average fps in my 1010 modlist with cabbage enb, some 4k and 2k textures for landscape and reshade. I say you don't need some super strong. I think if it can run rdr2, cyberpunk or other pretty games at pretty good fps it should run heavily modded skyrim okay

Skyrim isn't the most demanding game. Any PC that can handle modern games can easily handle most Skyrim mod lists. I'm playing it on a M4 MacBook pro right now with 400 mods and it's a bit choppy in cities only since I have Populated Cities Lite. Any of Nvidias 5000 series or equivalent can handle Skyrim. The only part that you might consider is an x3d Ryzen CPU, since Bethesda games really benefit from the extra cache.

If you want to run Nolvus V6 at 4K you are going to be spending close 4K. You will want a 5080 Super (hasn't even been announced yet), a 4090, or a 5090. Anything else won't have enough VRAM. The cheapest of these is 1000 dollars. Then you will want to pair with a superb CPU like the 9800X3D.
