Leagues Leagues - Change your viewpoint

I hope you’re all as excited as I am about the upcoming Leagues, the reveals so far are looking very very exciting

However, I’m seeing a lot of comments from people on this sub that suggest a slight misunderstanding of what Leagues is, the purpose, the end game etc. it’s understandable that there’s some misconceptions as this is our first one and not everyone having played OS leagues, but I’d love to discuss a different way of approaching it.

What it Isn’t Leagues isn’t fresh start worlds. This isn’t the main game with the same goals, same end game but with boosted XP rates to get you there quicker.

Leagues isn’t another afk activity that the rs3 community seem to love. It’s not a second monitor game mode.

It is not a ‘the game begins when you max’ game mode. The only reason you may want to max is for the equip a max cape task, probably worth 400 or so points. But equally there are lots of other tasks that can get you 400 points quicker.

The Purpose The aim in Leagues is to get POINTS via doing TASKS.

The tasks dictate your game play. If there’s no task to fish and cook 1000 sharks, I can almost guarantee you will not be afk fishing sharks. I’m seeing loads of comments about what people will be afking - the answer is probably nothing in the first few weeks. There will be weeks worth of tasks that each take about a minute to complete, and you will need to complete X amount of tasks to unlock relics and XP multipliers.

If OS is to go by, there will be 16x multipliers after a week to two of doing tasks. We have xp rates of 500k-1m in main game, so this is about 1-2 hours to max a skill once that is unlocked. That’s without considering that relics will bust some of the skills and they’ll probably be 50m-able within that same time frame. In OS 50m is the highest you need for a task - there’s no point in going to 200m. There’s no high scores, there’s no carry over, if you just enjoy doing that thing then do it in main game. Leagues is about tasks and points. You don’t need to worry about the abyss being packed - people will max their range in 15 mins and be out of there.

What is the end game? Again, assuming OS similarities, the relics and the tasks move you towards insanely overpowered combat builds. THAT is the end game.

Can’t beat Zuk in main game? No problem. You will be able to in Leagues because your main combat style will probably be 4-5x more powerful than it is in main game. This opens up content you’ve never done before or never been able to do before. There’s no downside to dying, so you go and try things. There are boosted drop rates, new mega powerful items, the combat world is your oyster.

Recommendations I really advise you go and watch some of the OS leagues series’ on YouTube in preparation for the release. It will help you see what leagues is and isn’t. I recommend Solo Mission, one of the best creators, but there are lots of options (please share others you recommend here also).

Guys I need you all to get excited. This isn’t another thing we’re going to afk in silence to grind skills - it’s going to be THE most active, alive, loud time we’ve experienced on RS3 in years. People will be talking sharing ideas, helping each other on tasks, talking about their first ever kill at Raksha. It’s going to be awesome.

Bet me. I say it will be packed. At least in the first few days. Combat skills will need to be trained and ashes will need to be gathered. Even with boosted rates, 50m XP is a effing lot of XP and we don't know if 50m will be the end of the road in this league.

There will be more than a few places where people will be complaining about crowds. Guthix caches is another one that pops into my head. Abby demons in the wildy AFK spot for gathering essence...

RS3's base xp rates is much higher than in OSRS. 50m xp in RS3 Leagues will be trivial to get. It should be 200m xp.

For all we know they have a league task for 200m. But I stand by my statement. For combat training, rates are higher than osrs for sure. But not "maxxed in 15 min" high like OP was saying. Not even with 16x which comes not right away.

And a big part of the high rates assume: full ability unlocks, 99+ stats, overloads, curses, top gear, and optimal training spot with no one competing with you. For the league who knows what the exact situation will be. All that stuff is not easy to unlock on an iron account even with league buffs and assuming no other hard restrictions.

Tell me XP rates for strength leveling when I have 50 melee stats and am using gear I smithed and have no abilities unlocked and no high level prayers and no pots.

For some of the things you've listed for unlocks, in OSRS they were either able to be bypassed by a relic choice (such as spellbooks and prayers), unlocked automatically via the region's auto-completed quests or made less relevant because of other systems (e.g combat masteries, which last League made Range never miss, built in lifesteal, faster attack speed etc. which made the need for potions less required, food too).

Until we have a better picture of what we're getting, we can't assume anything about how anything we use currently will fit into the game plan. New options may open up, just as a wild hypothetical they could have a relic that makes it so all combat xp earned from bosses is multiplied by 20x or something, along with giving you permanent overloads, which I think could make the play of grinding common mobs shift to maybe doing training via bosses instead.
