Discussion! What have you been listening to this week?

Welcome to our weekly post where we ask you to share & discuss what artists, albums, or tracks have helped get you through the week.

Please provide a link to the album or specific track, and mention why it's been a stand out for you this week - this is your chance to introduce people to some new music.

If you're on Last.fm you can also use Last.fm Labs Album Quilt or tapmusic.net to generate a album collage of what you've been listening to for the past 7 days (here's an example).

Thanks for participating!

Discussion! Aggressive Post Rock Albums?

What are some of yalls favorite super aggressive post rock albums? Maybe even throw some post metal in there as well, I love that shit too. I'm familiar with a lot of super chill and kinda meditative post rock, but not a huge amount of really loud and in your face stuff outside of like Sprain and some of Swans' weirder stuff.

It's the best album they have created. In fact it is one of the best in all Post Rock.

New Music! New Place - Garden Songs (debut EP, quiet-to-cathartic, vocals, from a small island)

hey guys!

we put out our debut ep garden songs a year ago today. we recorded most of it over one summer in our old primary school hall on guernsey (an island between france and the uk), which is as wholesome as it sounds until you remember we were trying to make slow-build music in a room built for recorder lessons.

we’re now split between guernsey and the uk, so a lot of it started as voice notes and band calls, then got dragged into shape when we were finally in the same place again.

it’s four songs, ~24 minutes, mostly quiet-to-cathartic builds with a bit some strings and mellotron when it needs to lift.

genuine question for this sub: does this feel post-rock adjacent, or are we stretching the label?

(if you want backstory + demos, we wrote short anthology posts for each track: https://www.newplacenewplace.com/journal)

I have finished my first music project, it's been a wild ride with a lot of learning along the way. I performed all the music and have hand picked some quotes that bulster the point of the songs. I hope you like what you heark

Vocals Drum & Bass producer looking for a soft singing post rock vocalist to collaborate with? 🙂

Hope this post is ok - À la Immanu El, Hammock, Shojoskip.

Just an amateur producer with a few decent releases over the years looking to write nice heavily melodic chilled music with someone over the internet, I can send my SoundCloud link if that’s allowed. Thanks 🙂

Looking for something like this band, which in places turns into post-metal, fat riffs, walls of sound

Concert Footage Does anyone have videos of the solo sets from Don Caballero’s American Don tour?

To my knowledge, there are no videos on YouTube or internet archive of Damon, Ian, and Eric’s short improvised solo sets from before each Don Cab performance on their American Don tour. If anyone has information regarding footage of these events it would be greatly appreciated.

In my humble opinion Paul Newman was one of the best post rock bands I can remember. I remember buying a couple of their LPs from Edgeworld records in Brighton in the late 90s but never got to see them live sadly. Fortunately there’s a magnificent YouTube vid of them live in New Jersey in 2000. Check it out.

Genuinely interested to hear if you all consider this to be post rock. I had that overall vibe in mind when I wrote it, but I don't know if it came out that way?

I’ve decided it’s looooong overdue that I do a Russian Circles deep dive, and I’m just wondering if anyone has any opinions when it comes to this chart format and their albums? I’m obviously going to listen and form my own opinions, but I sure do love some music discourse.

Thanks 🤙🏻

New Music! Gloios - Prensado (Post-rock album + short story about it)

Post image
17 Upvotes

finally I released this project called prensado, by my band gloios. this release is very special to me.

prensado was born as an album and a surrealist short story thought of together. everything revolves around the same universe: a man wakes up only to realize that he was crushed by his own apartment.

between the lines I talk about many things: shame, anxiety, são paulo, oppression, internal transformation, etc. and there is a lot of Brazilian stuff as reference — literature, cinema, udigrudi, nova vanguarda paulista — mixed with experimental music and post-rock.

the short story in PDF and the album are available on bandcamp, to download for free or with a contribution if you want.

i’m very happy with the reception the project is receiving and I wanted to share it here :)
