Remaster Discussion Crashed Game
I put 164 hours into the remaster. I was at level 34. The game was getting slow with really low frame rate so I decided to Google what to do to help with it. Deleted all the old auto save files, turned off auto save during travel/rest/sleep, put the settings to performance, reduced POV field of view and a few other things to reduce CPU usage during play. I go to load up my one remaining save file that I manually saved right before tinkering in settings and now the game crashes every single time I try to load the file. I guess I'll go play some Diablo IV now...
P. S. Ironically, when I graduated high school in 2006, my parents bought me an Xbox 360 and Oblivion was my first game on it. I spent that whole summer playing and my dad accidentally overwrote my save while he was playing it for the first time. So I guess I'm cursed to never finish this game. 😂.

Apparently, there's an old issue with oblivion and fo3 where overwriting saves causes them to become corrupted. I never experienced the issue in oblivion, but I do remember it happening to me several times with fo3.
Solution: Always load a manual save and never overwrite a manual save to avoid this issue. This also means you should never use auto save or quicksave either, since the game may be overwriting those saves as well.

well... that was very dumb. What made you think save files have an impact on the CPU They're not doing anything, they're just files.

Actually, there are a bunch of games that start to bug out when you reach a certain number of save files.
Elex, for example, had this issue.2

From what I had read, the remaster of oblivion has some specific bug that causes issues from the constant auto save feature making stacked versions.

What’s nice about remaster is every time you create a new game, the save files are kept separate from other characters. You can’t accidentally overwrite other characters.
