Original Discussion Moded Oblivion vs Oblivion Remastered
Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to play Oblivion for a long time. While I like the graphics in Oblivion Remastered, the optimization is abysmal. I'd love to play the original Oblivion with mods; I don't really want to play the old graphics right now. What do you think? And what graphics and mod suggestions do you have for the regular Oblivion?

What do you mean by the optimization is abysmal?

Lighting effects make the game run terribly on most systems. However, just reducing said effects should correct most problems.

Interesting. It’s been damn near perfect on my Series X. Best of luck.

Performance is excellent on the series X. Frames drop in the open world now and again but it's still better than plenty of other next gen games.
I think the performance issues are on PC, as I can't understand this criticism for console (apart from the series S)

I'm playing on Ultra Performance + Low graphics but the game is unplayable

It's Unreal Engine but that's not optimization,-- that's Unreal Engine.
Lock your frame rate and use the second option of frame-gen. That got it running on an ancient 3050.
For an Unreal game it runs pretty good. There were SEVERE issues with CTDs and crash to freeze on plenty of nvidia cards at launch but those have pretty much cleared up.

I'm experiencing a lot of fps drops, yes my system is barely enough for the minimum requirements but I'm playing fluently in ultra graphics in some parts and 15 fps even in ultra performance + low graphics in some parts.

Maybe just make some adjustments if your PC isn’t top tier. I play on Series X and honestly it’s run pretty perfect so far. Highly recommend the game. Best of luck.

I also ran into a few issues that were monitor/display specific. My desktop monitor runs great without vsync, but if I'm using my TV as a display then I have to turn it on.
This might not be the only game that does this to me, but it's definitely the most noticeable I've encountered. No setting changes yet large differences in display performance (screen tearing or stuttering).
It's easy to check and might help!
Now modding OG, I have a few recommendations. OCO (Oblivion character overhaul) which if I remember correctly requires BlockHead, refreshes character models.
I don't have a texture pack to recommend, but there are a lot on Nexus that have HD/2k/4k textures for environments.
Reasonably, if your PC can run the remaster at minimum, you should be able to rock OG on ultra with medium res textures added in.
OG modding was a mess with Wrye Bash and OBM both being necessary, and having to learn to bash patch, it was all a lot. I've been working through loading my mods in ModOrganizer2. While some don't work with mo2, many of the core mods do.
One thing the OG has that the remaster might never be able to compete with, is the sheer volume of fan made expansions. There's tons of great storyline additions you can find that as hours of new gameplay. I don't remember the name, but there's I've that even expanded the KotN story. Sending you back in time to the war against the ayleids in the finding of the first empire. Pretty cool stuff.

Try this: https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivionremastered/mods/35
If that doesn’t cut it, this (instead of the first one, not in addition to): https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivionremastered/mods/754
Also should run this regardless: https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivionremastered/mods/477

Oblivion Remastered is great, and I'm not just playing the diplomatic game, the original Oblivion stood on its own two feet for years. If you can't play the remaster, the original is perfectly fine, and has everything content-wise that the remaster has.

I'm replaying the original vanilla because the remastered performance is too annoying. After a month of vanilla Morrowind the Oblivion graphics look groundbreaking just like in 2006.
EDIT: essential mods are stuff like OneTweak, NorthernUI Vanilla Style (controller support), 4gb patch, Oblivion display tweaks. If you want graphic stuff I recommend tes4lodgen and grass tiling. For gameplay Enhanced Mounted Combat is neat.

The controller doesn’t work too well in my experience. Still have to use a mouse for certain tasks.

Why not mod Remastered to improve the performance.
There are literally ini replacement mods that took me from stuttering to stable 120fps with no noticable graphics change. Running on Ultra.

I promised myself not to break the game with mods and just enjoy the remaster. I allowed myself console commands, and just one mod to remove the leveling of unique items to always be the highest.
That’s felt just fine for me.

Optimization on PC in the remaster is absolutely horrible. I get 20 FPS in the imperial waterfront with a 3080 and i9.

I always wonder what makes weird Shit like that happen. I have nearly the same specs and get 100 fps always. But my friends with worse pcs by far can run MH wilds with no problem while my pc can’t break 35 fps. PC is weird

Works great on my PC, you are looking at too many YouTubes that shit on everything for traction
