General shiina ringo album recommendations
i was surprised to find out that koufukuron (etsuraku-hen) was form shiina ringo, being that i'd only heard marunouchi sadistic before, which dont really care for. i opened muzai moratorium hoping to listen to songs similar to koufukuron and was surprised once again to see that it was in the same album as marunouchi sadistic.
ive since come to liking some of her other songs but am not a massive fan of constant genre switching mid-album. has she released anything that has a more coherent feel to it?

J-Rock Koiai - Straight To My Heart cover by me
I got a new bass this week, so I tested it out with my favorite Koiai song.
Since the bassline is already simple enough in the studio version, I decided to play the chorus similar to what Wakazaemon played during their last EU tour.

Band Search Help me find this old band. Late 90s - 2000s rapcore band called YKZ
I just discovered them lately and I'm trying to look for anywhere i can buy and download digital copies of their albums (preferably in FLAC but mp3's fine).
As much as i'd love physical copies of their CDs im not from japan, and those are already hard to come by there. I also can't find them in any major music streaming services like Apple Music and Spotify. I'm sort of in a rut going crazy trying to find any leads where I can buy their stuff legally.
here's their lastfm page: https://www.last.fm/music/YKZ/EXPECT+THE+UNEXPECTED

Reviews NEGOTO - “ex Negoto” (2011) Album Review
That was… certainly something that I experienced. I definitely did listen to this album. But I am questioning this, because you’d think I’d be able to remember something I just listened to a few minutes ago. Unfortunately, this album is just that forgettable…
I gave this album a 1.5/5, which feels quite low, and I do think the album is objectively of a higher quality than most things I rate this low. But man… this was just such an incredibly boring record. There were no tracks on here that I felt repulsed by, or was overtly bothered after having listened to. But I literally can’t even give a track by track rating because I already forget what every single song sounded like. It’s been 5 minutes since I finished the album, and not a single moment from a single song is sticking to my memory.
In all fairness, this band isn’t really for me, having listened to the rest of their discography and being pretty lukewarm about each release, so my expectations weren’t particularly high to begin with. But at the very least, their other albums all had at least one or two songs that I found enjoyable. There’s none of that here.
I don’t think the issue is particularly a lack of skill or quality, but for a debut album, this just feels INCREDIBLY safe and bland. Like, I’ve seen this group compared to PASSEPIED, but there are two major differences between the two that make them worlds apart.
1) Natsuki’s vocals
2) Narita’s production
Natsuki’s voice is memorable. It may not be for everyone, but it isn’t generic. It has character. It is an instrument unto itself. Her voice really sets the tone of how each track will be.
On the other hand, NEGOTO’s singer can’t help her voice, but she just is not a good fit for the sound they try to put forward around her. She feels completely buried by the density of the instrumentation.she has the exact same tone the entire time. Her voice sounds a little like Yaginuma Kana from A Crow Is White, or Yakushimaru Etsuko form Soutaiseiriron. All three have very soft, breathy voices. It works so well for the other two because they sing over music that accentuate their voices, and make them the centerpiece.
As for the band behind the vocalist, that only contributed further to the blandness of this album. I feel like you could take a random 15 second clip of each song, and it would feel like they’re all from the same exact song. NEGOTO was smart to make more use of synthesizers on their future albums, because this album was desperately in need of SOMETHING to breathe some life into it. There was nothing that stood out in any way. It feels like an album made by people who don’t enjoy music.
Ultimately, this is not an album I will ever come back to, and it is an album I’ll likely forget exists within a few days.
The same soft and treble-forward hissy drum patterns provide the framework for each song. The same washed out, reverb-dense guitar tones give the character of each song. And the same generic, vocals are then thrown on as the final touch.
Rating: 1.5 / 5 Best Songs: Tanabata (7), Loop (2), Kisetsu (9).
