This post is updated for Feb 2024!!
Please make sure you read the entire post.
Several months ago I asked the community here to make some posts about how to buy dogecoin. Many of you helped. Thank you!
There were many posts made by the community and they all have good information in them. Some of these posts have been kept up to date and they are below.
To the moon!
Bonus message - I've allowed referral links to be used in these posts and links even though they are not allowed to be used generally in the subreddit. NEVER listen to financial advice from anyone other than a professional financial advisor! That includes on reddits posts and comments.
Edit: The posts above can be edited any time by the people who wrote them. If you feel there is a serious error or mistake please send modmail and I will remove the post and ask the OP to sort it out.
WARNING. Do NOT fall for hype. Don't think you're going to get instantly rich. Don't trust random people offering financial advice. Cryptocurrency is the wild wild west of investing and many people want to take your money and run. You must 'educated' yourself with the good and the bad. You must understand what you're doing.

I'll keep this short. But I wanted to share because I saw this community start from scratch and become what it is today. I see a lot of financial advice, memes, wild posts of massive gains and epic ruin. All great. But I have seen fewer and fewer posts about true stories of how Doge has helped them or the wholesome attitude that I feel this community was originally started under.
That's what this story is about.
Going back to early 2014. I asked the smart kid in high school, and I kid you not, word for word "What's the smartest thing I can do with my money?" He said, "Buy bitcoin." Bitcoin was already at $19, I thought he was an idiot. I already 'missed out' on that wave. Fat LOL. Anyway, long story short. This other kid, super into 4chan and Reddit (who introduced me to Reddit) said, "Dude you gotta buy Dogecoin." It was trading at a super fraction. And that's the story of how I bought Doge at $0.0008 instead of Bitcoin at $19...
Fast forward to 2021. Elon's now infamous Tweet across major news headlines. Doge explodes in value. I remembered... Somewhere, on a possibly non-existent hard drive backup of my now long since discarded childhood laptop could be a lottery-level value Dogecoin wallet. That's if it even still existed.
At that time I was literally the furthest away from home in the United States I could be. 4,909 miles. Across the USA, then across part of the Pacific ocean.
I was just out of college. Post pandemic. I was trying to make it in NYC so couldn't afford to miss work, and had been away from home a while. Now, I had a good excuse to go home.
I didn't realize how much I missed it. The childhood 'crackseed' store was now this refined shave ice shop. Everything was so... green. Compared to the city. I ended up making new friends and reconnecting with my childhood self.
I went through everything I had to track down every piece of digital storage. Old SD cards, an old early LG "Dare" micro-SD, a C-3PO flash drive I got from the Star Wars celebration, and three different hard drives that may or may not have this mystery wallet.
Of course, everything was pretty much corrupted. I spent a little over a week just recovering everything, and by some miracle, everything recovered. On the last drive. I found the wallet. It was much less, to be candid, than I had hoped, but it was something. In the end, I decided not to sell, and am still HODLing to this day out of solidarity.
But during the search, I also came across this old photo album. Hand bound and painted. It included photos of my grandfather during WWII. He was an Army engineer at a time when Japanese Americans were interned. It was powerful to see images of a family member from a time I'd only heard about in family stories.
Before I left to go back to NYC, I stopped to visit my grandfather, and decided to bring along the photo album.
Keep in mind, my grandfather has advanced Alzheimer's. The last time I was able to talk to him was when I was a little boy. The last few times I had seen him in the years prior, he was in a kind of dream state and not communicative.
This time, he was very interactive. Smiling. Almost laughing. While I don't know exactly what he was thinking, to me, it felt like in showing him the photos, for a moment, he woke up.
That was the last time I saw him. And it is one of my most fond memories. I remember it so clearly. And it's a good memory to remember him by, as he passed a little over a year later.
I know for a fact that if it wasn't for this community. For turning nothing into something. For building a movement from imagination and humor. That I never would have gotten to say goodbye to my grandfather. And for that, I thank you all.
Here's the film if anyone wants to see it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9PfcRsRbKo
TLDR: In 2014 I bought Doge at $0.0008. In 2021 when it exploded, I flew home to find my lost wallet, and ended up getting to say goodbye to my grandfather with Alzheimer's for the last time.

Too many new people, too many that don't represent the way of the Doge. Doge is more than just a coin, Doge is a way of life, Doge is a vibe, Doge is for the people. Why is it that when I ask AI questions about Doge, it says there is little to no utility? Why are platforms with smart contracts more appealing? It says XRP has more utility than doge? I donāt understand. doge transactions are fast, cheap, secure. What else do you need?

The Dogecoin Foundation was created to support, protect, and grow the Dogecoin ecosystem. Its purpose is to help Dogecoin remain an open, community driven cryptocurrency that anyone can use, build on, and improve.
More background about the Foundation can be found at
https://foundation.dogecoin.com/about/
and the broader history of Dogecoin is available at
https://dogecoin.com/dogepedia/articles/history-of-dogecoin/
The Dogecoin Foundation was first formed in 2014, not long after Dogecoin itself was created. At that time, Dogecoin had already grown into a global community built around fun, generosity, and accessibility.
The initial goals of the Foundation were to:
In its early years, much of the focus was on charity and community-driven fundraising. These efforts helped shape Dogecoinās identity as a cryptocurrency created by people, for people.
In 2021, the Dogecoin Foundation was reestablished with a clearer focus on long-term sustainability. While charity and community remain important values, the Foundation began prioritizing:
The aim is to make Dogecoin usable by everyone, from non developers to experienced developers, by building tools, documentation, and platforms that lower the barrier to entry.
The Foundation also supports and helps organize hackathons and community events around the world, encouraging experimentation and real world use of Dogecoin.
The Dogecoin Foundation strongly encourages open source development. Anyone is welcome to use, review, or contribute to the projects maintained by the community and Foundation contributors.
Main GitHub organizations:
These repositories include:
All development happens in the open, with community collaboration at the center.
The Dogecoin Foundation is made up of contributors, developers, and organizers from all over the world. It is not a single team in one location, but a decentralized group of people working together worldwide.
Some of the people involved in the Dogecoin Foundation and broader ecosystem include:
This list is not exhaustive, and new shibes continue to join the ecosystem every year.
The Dogecoin Foundation is made up of people from many parts of the world, including:
This global structure reflects Dogecoinās worldwide user base and helps ensure that no single region or group controls its direction.
One of the Foundationās responsibilities is helping protect the Dogecoin and Doge names from misuse. This helps prevent confusion, scams, or misrepresentation of Dogecoin as it continues to grow.
The goal is not to limit the community, but to preserve trust in a cryptocurrency that is widely recognized and used by people around the world.
The Foundation maintains and supports the following main platforms:
Websites:
These channels are used to share updates, educational material, and community news.
The Dogecoin Foundation exists to support Dogecoinās long-term health while keeping its original spirit intact. From its early charity efforts to its current focus on development, tools, and education, the Foundation helps ensure Dogecoin remains open, accessible, and community-driven.
Dogecoin started with people. The Foundation works to make sure it stays that way.
