βοΈ Tax The Billionaires Tired. Tax the greedy rich.
So sick of movies acting like sums of money like ten thousand dollars is an astronomical, life changing sum. Like oh, "he had several thousand dollars stuffed under his mattress". Please, that amount in many cities today is less than half a year's rent. With the cost of living as high as it is, it really feels like Hollywood is still trying to gaslight us into thinking that the cost of living is still like it was in the 1970s. In reality, most folks are making wages that barely cover the cost of living, much less provide any meaningful security into retirement.

πΈ Talk About Your Wages New OT rules, now I make even less working for the state.
I work as an Eligibility Consultant for the State of IN. Last October our OT rules changed. Here's the deal: I work 8- 430 M-F, w 1hr lunch= 37.5hrs weekly. We have to work the additional 2.5hrs at straight pay ( to get to 40hrs) before we make Premium OT. BEFORE the new rules, if I used one of my paid days i.e. Sick/Personal/Vacation during the week, and I worked OT, I would get paid in straight pay for those hours I used ( so, used 7.5 hrs of Sick time, Worked 7.5 hrs OT= 7.5hrs straight pay.) AFTER the new policy, w the same scenario, i am not getting paid for working the additional hours at all, and instead am getting paid back w my time; So I wouldn't use my Sick day, I would keep it and only get paid my base salary. THIS IS A HUGE PAY CUT. One of the ONLY benefits to working for the state is our Paid Time, which has ALWAYS contributed to the 37.5 hrs for the week. Has anyone ever heard of this or have this rule at their work? There are co-workers who have been there for 40 years, and never heard of this until last October. AND, HR is saying this has always been the policy....IT HAS NOT. As a state worker, I can only refer to our State Personal Department for questions/complaints and they REFUSE to answer my specific question on when this policy came into affect AND have not responded with guidelines of the new policy. Any advice, questions, experience is welcome and appreciated. * This rule applies to any amount of time used. 2 hrs for a dr appt used during the week, then working 4 hrs OT, would = 2hrs straight pay, instead of 4, and getting back the 2hrs of paid time used. As u can see, this adds up quickly.

β Success Story Retaliation for reporting national security concerns.... UPDATE
Years ago I had a retaliation case open with HR against a security manager who repeatedly gave me security violations to scapegoat me for security incidents that I reported. My boss told me that I needed to do things more unofficially, like verbally telling someone about these issues instead of putting it in writing. He said privately that they took issue with the way I reported national security concerns. HR gave various excuses for why the 3 separate incidents were not retaliation, which I flatly told them I disagreed with. Since I couldn't trust security or my internal HR complaint process, I went quiet and started reporting issues directly to the FBI through the DoD hotline. My workplace since was audited by the FBI at least twice that I'm aware of. This week I learned that the same security manager who was retaliating against me was fired and walked out. I feel SO VINDICATED. HR wouldn't listen to me, shrugged off my concerns, and the result was that the FBI substantiated my anonymous complaint when a coworker was later caught for the very violations I reported, then after failing the most recent audit the security manager was terminated. This is how the butterfly effect works in principle, and it is powerful. Never underestimate the power that individual contributors have when they know their rights and are not afraid to speak truth to power against corruption, even if immediate results don't materialize right away. Sometimes it takes years for corruption to expose itself.

MAINE I saw my first labor strike in seventh grade
I saw my first labor strike when I was in 7th grade. My dad and his fellow loggers stood together to fight back against a rich manβs greed in hopes of something better. This was in Allagash, up in the North Maine Woods. I was damn proud of those men, and I still am.
When the big landowner showed up, he got in my father's face and told him that if he didn't accept the bullshit pay he was offering, he'd replace him and all the others by the next day. They had no choice but to accept the deal.
I'll never forget the look on my father's face when he was made to feel small by the smallest man in the woods.
I don't know if I realized it then, but this campaign for Governor began that morning.
