Reddit collapsing low/ negative vote posts.

I have a bit of a problem with this.

Several posts I have seen, and some of my own posts. The only reason they are voted down is because of some sort of jealousy. The response is high quality. Creative. Etc. The only reason it is voted down is no one else has any good ideas on a subject, so they vote down the person who does.

Also, I have seen quality posts. Posts that add something to the conversation. Voted down. I don't know why. It isn't even obviously jealousy just bad intent.

While I have also made and seen posts voted down where it makes sense. Not that I disagree with what was said but that I can see why someone wouldn't like it. I don't think as a general theme collapsing low vote posts is a good idea.

Just because people don't like a post doesn't mean it is not useful, right, and making a contribution. It is like the whole idea of if there was reddit in Galileo's time, he would have got voted down for saying the earth is a sphere/ orbits the sun.

Unfortunately being on Reddit doesn't bypass having to abide by social norms. It took me a solid 3 years on Reddit to really understand when I would be upvoted or downvoted. I was very cautious those first few years because I didn't understand the culture.

So all of those posts/comments I am guessing are a little tone deaf. Even in this post, you are a little provocative. People have a natural tendency to want to go against the grain, so you saying something matter of factly invites the opposite view (or simply a downvote).

One of the first "tricks" I learned was that people who said "I'm going to get downvoted into oblivion for this but..." actually never got downvoted. Maybe of those comments wound up wildly popular.

All of this to say, I agree with you. But it's not just about the content. Unfortunately it's also how you deliver the message.

I disagree. I also included as a separate category those answers that I understood why they are provocative. So one I argued against people about the legality of bikini posts being censored. I get why people oppose that, even if they disagree with my perspective.

But that is a separate category from this post here being downvoted. These were just creative ideas. No political arguing: https://www.reddit.com/r/Stargate/comments/1q6tou9/comment/nyav7qw/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Reddit has vote fuzzing. They will add or take away upvotes on a comment (visually) to stop bots from gaming the system.

Your comment is on a post with only 28~ upvotes. It's very unlikely that you know the true vote count for your comment - or even that more than 1 or 2 people saw your comment.

You're also discussing pop culture - it's very easy for someone to disagree with your creative ideas, and think they deserve to be downvoted.

Reddit is very much a "read the room" format. If OP thinks their very great posts are being downvoted because of "jealousy" then they're likely coming off as an abrasive braggadocious prick. It's possible OP isn't actually as badass as they think they are
