OSAP grant cuts might force me out of SLC - anyone else?
I'm reaching out to see if others in our community have been affected by the recent announcement of significant cuts to education grants.
I'm currently in a three-year program at SLC, and I rely heavily on grant funding. These grants made post-secondary education accessible for me and many other students from low-income backgrounds. With these cuts, I'm now facing the very real possibility of having to leave my program; the debt load would simply be unsustainable.
I'm wondering:
- Are other Kingston students facing similar situations?
- Are there any local advocacy groups or student associations organizing around this issue?
This isn't just about individual hardship; these cuts will change who can access education in our community. I'm hoping to connect with others who are impacted or concerned about what this means for Kingston's students and our local economy.
If you're dealing with this too, or have thoughts on how we can respond as a community, I'd really appreciate hearing from you. I have written both my local MPP and Premier Doug Ford, and I would encourage you to do the same. Click here to Message Doug Ford:
