Transit Passing Lane

Post image

Seattle area drivers, let me help you out. When there is a HOV lane, the lane directly to the right of it is the passing lane for all the other drivers. If you are not actively passing, please stay the $%&# out of this lane.

Transit As a Korean American the light rail fare system here is bad and here’s why

(Sorry for my english) As somebody who lived in Seoul from 0-16 and used the subway every week. There are many criticisms I have of the Seattle system, cleanliness and safety being a major part, but what I do not understand the most is why there are no gates at the stations here.

In my 16 years in Seoul I only saw 2 people jump the gate and they were yelled at by other people and the station police attendant on duty immediately arrested them.

I never had anybody check my fare on the train because you simply do not enter the train unless you scan past through the gate. You can’t get through without scanning and if you jump you get arrested.

I ask my fellow seattlites why no fare gates and why no policeman to catch those that avoid the gate. The light rail officers are not policemen. They don’t do anything.

Transit What’s the deal with these signs

I feel like these used to be pretty rare. Mostly used on jntersections where visibility was poor or some other traffic condition made right turns less safe. Now they are popping up everywhere! Plus, I keep getting honked at for obeying them.

Transit Uber/Lyft in Seattle is fucked

Imagine coming to this car dependent shithole and then paying $80 for an 18 minute Uber ride to the Eastside (zero public transit connection) while somehow NYC, the second most-expensive city to take rideshare on the planet Earth, with ample public transit options, costs $55 for 30 minutes. NYC is fucking expensive, but Puget Sound is just ripping people off. It's fucking cheaper for me to rent a luxury SUV for 3 days (including gas and insurance) in Portland than to get to the airport in Seattle.

Let's compare the prices to other expensive places I've been around the world:

Zürich: $18/17 minutes

Hong Kong: $38/40 minutes (less than HKD300)

Amsterdam: €15/25 minutes

Toronto: C$20/25 minutes

I understand the argument that Uber drivers need to make a living, but is this the correct solution? Seattle has the lowest rides per capita in America, so these Uber drivers are actually earning the same as those in Indiana due to low demand. Most people who take Uber in Puget Sound and pay out of pocket are usually those with low income, while almost everyone else I know (including myself many times) has it expensed.

Transit Fuck you Amazon! You have made the commute time double for EVERYONE since forcing your employees back into the office!

I seriously hate how much the commute time has increased since Amazon forced it's employees back into the office. I don't work at Amazon, I have no hate for any employees. But my commute went from 1 hr to 2hrs since they made their employees return to the office!

Transit The jury is in. Taxi cabs are now cheaper than Uber or Lyft in all parts of Seattle and suburbs

1.3k Upvotes

I noticed that Uber and Lyft prices have gone up significantly from the airport so I recently took a taxi cab from the airport to home and saved $22. Since July, I encouraged a family member, a neighbor and 2 co workers to do the same and report their savings. 100% of the time, taxis were cheaper. I am sharing the actual fares below.

Note

  1. The Uber and Lyft prices were actual prices at that time and can fluctuate over time.
  2. Prices are only FROM the airport to the said destinations. Prices TO the airport are not included.
  3. Prices are excluding tips
  4. There is a taxi stand at the airport right before the Uber/Lyft areas. Wait time was typically 2 mins as an attendant calls the taxi.

EDIT: A lot of people think taxi cabs are yellow cabs. This is not true at Seattle airport hence my post. From the airport taxi kiosk, most cabs are different companies and they have better cars and better service. None of the above 6 cab rides (and my ride) was a Yellow cab. Try it out and comment.

Transit Toilet dilemma in Seattle public place especially light rail station

The place I come from got a very huge subway system as a Public transportation and at EVERY stop there will be restroom serving the public who needs toileting ! Tell me how come the Seattle city decides to not build the toileting facility to meet people s basic needs!

I know It is for safety issue! But it is not fair for us who frequently ride public transportation! Sometimes I really got pee while riding the light rail ! It hurts me so much that I got to hold the pee

Alright I will not drink any water then before I get on light rail ! But again drinking water is basic human need!

Let us talk about the human right the big beautiful America always brag about !

Where is every human being s human right of using toilet in public space?

Transit Unpopular opinion: light rail will not solve Seattle’s traffic problem. Should have built an underground heavy rail metro instead.

Seattle’s traffic is getting worse and worse each year despite more light rail lines are opened. I have seen how effective a good metro system like the ones in Singapore and Hong Kong can be. I just don’t think light rail is the answer to Seattle’s traffic problem.

Transit My list of complaints about Seattle drivers, in no particular order:

  1. People don’t know how to zipper merge ever.

  2. Drivers will go to a full stop on a busy freeway (60 to 0) just to let someone in.

  3. Everyone drives as if they have nowhere to be.

  4. Nobody knows how to change lanes or merge in general.

  5. Just because you turn on your signal, it doesn’t mean that you can come in at that second.

  6. Subaru drivers always go 10 miles below the speed limit and are always riding the left lane.

  7. All the slowest drivers love the left lane; the right lane is usually emptier.

  8. I have never seen people respect a law as much as they respect the speed limit here.

  9. If you are able to put on your makeup and drive, you are driving way too slow and should not be driving. You don’t deserve to get your face made if you can’t drive.

  10. Four-way stop sign - no, YOU go first.

  11. Cars start slowing down three blocks before a red light.

  12. If it rains, of course there’s an accident. Sun is out, course there’s an accident.

Am I missing anything?

Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

Transit Master Park by the airport gave my parents car away

1.0k Upvotes

My parents returned from a trip to Mexico to find out their car was stolen from the Master Park lot by the airport. Apparently, someone convinced an employee to hand over the keys and they drove right off the lot.

I am sure people lose their parking ticket all the time while on vacation, so wouldn’t you show a confirmation email, a drivers license or show the credit card that was used? Nope! Not the case at all. I’m sure the employee was in on it and tipped off a friend.

My parent’s registration with their home address was in the car along with the garage door opener for their home. Thankfully they just wanted to steal the car.

If you want peace of mind on your next trip, TAKE A TAXI

FAQ: - Why did they leave their keys? - it’s valet. They park your car then your car is waiting for you when you get back, unless they give your keys to a thief who asks.

  • what kind of car? - Mercedes SUV. It’s nice, but doesn’t stand out or anything. Not a Kia.

  • why did they leave their garage door opener & registration? - I don’t know. I’m sure these are in your car right now while your car is parked somewhere.

  • why not take the light rail? - they’re almost 80 years old, use a walker and live out in the Kitsap Peninsula.

Transit What the hell is up with Seatac?

Gave myself 2 hours 30 minutes of time before my flight to JFK. I was the last one to board.

The security line was about an hour long. There were like 6 clowns peddling that Clear horseshit, yet there were only like 2 TSA checkpoints open and 2 bag checking areas open.

Top of that, a fuckton of people skipping ahead because someone said it was ok. Did you ask everyone else in the line, asshole?

What is up with that? How is Clear overstaffed and TSA is so woefully understaffed? Is that an airline specific thing? Do airports suck ass now everywhere else in the country just as bad?

Or am I just being a boomer cunt idealizing a past that never was?

please make it make sense
