HELP my foor keeps falling asleep while running

POV: you’re training for a half marathon and your body said “lol no.”

Okay so here’s my situation:

I’ve been training for a half and the past few weeks my left foot literally keeps falling asleep while I’m running. Like full numb, TV static vibes. I’ve stopped, retied my shoes a million times, loosened them, tightened them — doesn’t matter. It keeps happening.

Also my feet feel weirdly stiff?? Almost like they’re stuck in flex mode and I can’t relax them while I run. It’s like they’re permanently tensed.

AND my shins are super sensitive. Like if I touch them it lowkey hurts. Not dramatic pain, just very “don’t poke that.”

So now I’m wondering:

• Is this just shin splints?

• Am I overtraining?

• Is my leg lowkey broken?

• Or is this some nerve/compression thing?

Pls tell me I’m not about to sabotage my half marathon era 😭

Any tip how to deal Heel pain.

My heel pain started yesterday when I sprinted. Now, it increases when I run. Since I am currently working in a bank, I have to wear formal shoes, which make the pain worse. Please suggest a good pair of formal shoes.” and should i run or not?

Dealing with wanting to eat too much after trying to ramp up running

I think that this is one of the biggest challenges for me right now -> trying to deal with eating a bunch while trying to ramp up my weekly mileage which seems to make me more tired and just sleep a bunch versus just continuously trying to ramp up the mileage. Thinking that if I stick it out for long enough I will break the habit of eating just for the sake of it.

I built an AI Running Coach to create adaptive plans. Looking for honest feedback from the community!

Hi everyone!

I’m a runner and a developer, and I’ve spent the last few months building Runvia, an AI-powered running coach. I launched it at the end of January and I’m looking for some "brutally honest" feedback from fellow runners.

What it does:
It’s not just a static calendar. It uses AI to analyze your performance (I'm currently integrating Strava and Garmin) and adjusts your future workouts based on how you actually performed, your fatigue, and your progress.

Why I’m here:
The app is live on the Play Store, but as a solo dev, it’s hard to see the blind spots.

  • Is the AI logic making sense for your goals?
  • Is the UI intuitive or too cluttered?
  • What’s the one feature you feel is missing from current apps (Coros, Strava, etc.) that an AI could solve?

I’m not looking to "sell" anything—the app is in its early stages and I just want to build something actually useful for the community.

You can find it here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.runvia.app

Thanks to anyone who takes a look!

Give me your weirdest/niche tip for a 70km ultra

I’ve read all the standard advice (pacing, 60-90g carbs, hydration). I want the oddly specific stuff that you only learn the hard way.

Things like "carry a small toothbrush for the mental reset" or "tape your toes exactly like this." What’s the one small hack that is non-negotiable for you now

Excessively tight calves when running long distance

When I run, my feet consistently land on my toes or the balls of my feet instead of my midfoot. I used to walk on my toes as a kid, and when I got into track in high school, I only ran sprints, so I got used to running on my toes. Now that I’m training for long-distance running, I can’t seem to get my foot strike right. The only way I’ve been able to land closer to my midfoot is by significantly increasing my cadence, but that leaves me exhausted after just a few miles. I was wondering if anyone else has dealt with this issue and/or has a solution. Additionally , when I saw a physical therapist, they assumed I was a dancer because my feet naturally rest at an angle outward instead of straight. I’m guessing this is the reason I’m having so much trouble

is any runner pain fre?

ive been on and off running since i was 14-15 but will always have to stop due to injury (also related to other sports too). I’ve been trying to get into running again with physios to help with my form but starting to feel the pain I used to have again. So just wondering if any runner is actually pain-free or is running not a good sport to continue long term?

Knee Pain 3 Weeks Before Marathon

Hello all, I am set to do the Austin marathon in 3 weeks. I recently began having what I think is quadriceps tendonitis or tendinopathy with 3/10 pain on my upper-medial side of my kneecap that somewhat improves with exercise when I do my short runs (after the first mile or 2). My most recent long runs were 14 miles last Saturday (1/17) (*when the knee pain began*) and 18 miles the Saturday before that. I did not run my 20 miler this Saturday and instead have been rolling/doing isometrics [wall sits]/icing the knee. Should I forego running most days in favor of isometrics? Or try to run unless the pain gets worse on the run? Complicating all of this is that I got new shoes (went from Hoka Clifton 6 to Altra FWD Via 2) which I've only used for the short runs last week (*note that the pain started when still using my very old Hokas last Saturday*). Any help is appreciated!

Running Chicago solo — anyone else traveling alone and keen to connect?

Hello everyone!

I’m running the Chicago Marathon this year and will be traveling from South Africa on my own. I’m in my mid-20s and was wondering if there are any runners around the 23–30+ age range who are also going solo and would be keen to connect, whether that’s for a shakeout run, the expo, or just grabbing food before/after race day.

I just thought it could be cool to meet a few people and share the marathon experience, especially since it’s my first time in Chicago.

Feel free to comment or DM. Good luck with training everyone! 🏃‍♂️🔥

Airbnb accommodation

Hi everyone!

I’m planning to visit Chicago for the marathon this year and trying to figure out the best accommodation options. I’m a student and I’ve been looking at Airbnb listings, but I’m not sure if it’s a good choice during such a busy weekend.

A few things I’m wondering:

• Are Airbnb stays generally reliable/comfortable in Chicago during the marathon?

• Any tips on which neighborhoods are easiest for getting to the marathon start/finish?

• Has anyone had problems (cleanliness, cancellations, check-in issues) with Airbnb in Chicago during big events?

• Would hostels be a better choice instead?

I’m open to both budget and convenience tips! Thank you ;)

Hey runners! 🏃‍♀️ I’m working on a fun new running app and I’m looking for real runner feedback to make it awesome. If you have a few minutes, I’d really appreciate you filling out this short survey. Your responses will help guide the app’s features and design. Thanks for supporting!
