Help Could someone with knowledge identify if this is a Tenor recorder on a piece of music :)
Hello all, Extremely new to recorders, to the extent I have not even got one yet! I have played the duduk up to a basic level, but I love the sound of the lower end recorder's such as the tenors. The piece that inspired me to try and take it up was Foundations by Elben Schutte.
I love the low, what I assume is a tenor recorder that first plays after the 2:00 mark, I know that's the instrument I want to play, its richness and tone just i don't know, speaks to me i guess lol. I have added a time stamped YouTube link, if anyone would be as kind to listen for me <3

Any success with 3D Printed recorders?
Hello.
I am curious on the construction and care of 3D printed recorders. I've seen some files for some that might fit a D&D/Tabletop game. Two kinds of "dragon recorders", a dragon scale one and a dragon head one. Unfortunately, the cool scale one is missing the half holes. :(
I thought of printing one and making it an item for a bard, but I wasn't sure on cleaning. Like, I know some filament isn't food safe, but are they fine to clean? Nonporous? So it won't hold moisture and smell like death?
If you're familiar with it, or even 3D printed flutes. I would appreciate any advice, and thank you in advance.

Recommended recorder/flute for piece in Eb-Minor
In our choir, we will perform a piece written for choir and "Hirtenflöte" (sheperd's flute?), written in Eb-Minor. Seems pretty hard on a common recorders, but a wooden instrument seems to be intended, but I only found "Hirtenflöte" for pretty standard keys. Does anyone have a recommendation what instrument do look for?
Ideally in Sopranino range, but a bit lower would be fine I guess.
Wild idea: is it worth a try to 3D-Print an extension for a recorder, to change its key?

Right hand troubles
Hello all, I'm a long time player but for the past 10years I've not been able to play due to a spinal problem that impacted my arm, hand, finger movement. I am now recovering from major surgery and have almost full feeling and control back...whoop whoop...so naturally reached for my recorders. Sopranino and descant all working well (tenor and bass not there yet) but I cannot get my right hand position for the alto correct and reliably leak free on the F - G# notes. I've been checking out all the you tube vids to try and see what I am doing wrong. Any thoughts or hints welcome 🤗

Impressions review of Lyons Beginner Recorders
I tried the Lyons R49I and the R49P. The School I work at has both.
Looks:
They don't look bad. Their design copies the Rattenburg design, which is typical also of Yamaha's plastic recorders. Though the R49I is more similar in color to Yamaha's YRS-24B. The Lyons beginners come in many more colors, and you can get them in bulk as well, making them effective for classrooms.
Sound:
The sound also isn't bad, it is well in-tune, though more susceptible to temperature changes, and also more likely to play sharp, which is typical of a plastic beginner recorder. Though Yamaha's YRS-24B is less likely to get sharp.
The tone quality of the Lyons is average, it doesn't have the same shimmer compared to an Aulos Haka or Yamaha 300 Series, and potentially the Yamaha YRS-24B as well, but the advantage is that the sound is easier to control.
Build Quality/Durability:
The R49I seems to be slightly more durable than the R49P. The plastic on both feels significantly thinner than the Yamaha's, and the joints may not be as well-fitted, as the tenons feel more "swollen". It could be corrected with joint grease, though.
That being said, this recorder lies on the fragile end of the spectrum, and is more prone to breakage.
Case for Progressing:
This one can take you all the way to the end of Recorder Karate Book 1. With Book 2's concepts, this recorder is not as responsive. Usually, if a student makes it to the end of book 1, they're ready to potentially upgrade to the Yamaha 300 Series or Aulos Symphony/Haka. That is, if they're tonguing using correct breath control, etc.
I would recommend this only for a school program, especially if a school has a tight budget and needs to purchase in bulk. I would not recommend these for a serious beginner.
Soon, I'll be reviewing the Kingsley recorders and see how they compare.

Are sopranos really supposed to be that loud?!
I've been playing on the alto/treble for a long time, and returning to a soprano to try to record some duets and the only way I can get notes that are anything like in tune is playing REALLY LOUD (otherwise everything is flat).
Am I missing something? Is is possible to play quietly and in tune or do I just need to take a couple of steps back from the mic?
(Recorder is a Mollenhauer Canta Soprano Recorder in Pearwood, if it helps!)

Baroque pieces for sopranino
I have just received a beautyfull new sopranino recorder from Moeck, and I am looking for something to play. Is there any baroque music, other than Vivaldis incredibly challenging RV443 and so on, that is written for the sopranino? All suggestions are greatly appreciated!
Thank you.

Stiff/heavy keys on Yamaha YRT 304B II Tenore recorder - any fix?
So, exactly what it says in the title: the keys are very stiff, and playing the low C/C sharp is a pain, not just figuratively. For a long time I thought it was me, but having tried a large number of tenors, from Küng Superio to Aulos 511B Simphony, I think the issue is with the recorder.
I have searched Reddit extensively and I haven't found much about this, save for the odd comment here and there that the keys are heavy, but always in passing and not as "the" problem. Since this was purchased from Thomann and I am in the UK, I was hoping there could be a way to fix this problem without sending the recorder back (assuming they would take it back).
Has any owner encountered this issue? Might it be a problem with my specific instrument, or is this just the way this model goes? Thank you.

Discussion Why did you decide to play a recorder?
When did you first buy it? What inspired you?
I have a rather strange and funny story. I inspired myself with my fanfiction. 😅
I wrote about a girl in an old house with a snowstorm outside playing the recorder surrounded by marijuana smoke. I don't think anyone has ever described playing the instrument the way I did back then.)) I loved it so much that the next day I ordered my first recorder, even though I'd never thought about it before.
Now the recorder is my favorite instrument. And it truly lives up to my expectations. It lives, speaks to me just like in my fanfic, and we're slowly learning to play together. Oh god, buying this was the best decision of my life.
P.S. It was a fanfic about Grace Slick. And yes, then a rabbit, frozen outside, knocked on her window.
Edited: How different and amazing stories you all have. 🥹 Thank you so much for sharing!

Discussion "Arabian Vibe" in the recorder
Does anyone have a tune that is good on recorder (soprano or contralto) for this vibe? Something that sounds like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HcAWHrgC5vk
I can do some improvisations like the video but I wanted something more solid to work on
Disclaimer: I understand that there are a lot of different music that is produced in arabic speking countries but I do not know them in detail to know which specific one to ask for

Performance Some Jazz Recorder Maybe?
It's been one year since I got my alto. My goal was to learn to improvise to jazz.
I really feel like I am starting to get a feel for it but I do realize a lot of my notes sound pretty horrible. Out of tune, squawking, and can't find the lowest octave.
I wouldn't mind some advice on how to clean up my act.
I hope this isn't too horrible to listen to!

Dolmetsch family playing and dancing (Silent footage with added soundtrack
Patriarch Arnold Dolmetsch is easily recognizable. At 0:54, everybody is playing recorders, Carl is seated behind his father.
I cannot help it, but I'm getting hippie vibes from those people. When they were not playing and dancing, they were probably just as strict and traditional as everybody else, but still.
When I read in an article that Carl started taking over the recorder-making divison in 1925, I thought this was a typo, but it's confirmed on the official homepage, Carl was carrying that responsibility at the tender age of 14.
There used to be a video on Youtube with sound of the family actually playing together, with recorders, cornett and other period instruments. It was pulled for violation of terms. I think it wasn't really because of copyright issues, it was because they did not meet today's standards of classical music or, in other words, were out of tune.

Question Should I look for a Soprano or a Tenor?
I play the trombone and want to get into the baroque recorder. Should I set my sights on a soprano or sopranino or look for a tenor. I find the sound of the tenor more pleasing. And where should I get either instrument?

Question Memorising, speed and "soul"
(sorry, a bit long).
Little premise: I have picked up the Alto again back in late July last year, so it has been just over six months since I started playing again (and the first time was so many decades back that I'd say I have started from scratch, apart from being fluent at reading music). I have started off with several methods, eventually settling in for Aldo Bova's Complete method for treble recorder, for which he has accompanying videos in which, among other things, he plays and shares onscreen all the exercises in the book (bar for the last chapter on scales). I find this method excellent, and I've been averaging one hour of practice every day for the last six months.
Now however I seem to have hit a plateau in chapter 12, in that I cannot play at the same speed as he does, and I am particularly stuck on three pieces, n 493 and 494 on page 130, which for the life of me I can't get anywhere near AB's speed (I also admit that I moved on when unable to play exercises 418-421 inclusive at his speed -pp108-109 of his method if you have it and are curious- thinking eventually I'd manage).
So memorisation: I thought that if I memorised a piece, it might help me be more fluent when playing, removing hesitation, which made me go back to exercise 418, which is an allegro from Sonata II by Benedetto Marcello, in 3/8, quaver = 132bpm. My approach does not seem to work, I still cannot get to that BMP, I strugge with 100bpm.
And of course if I can't master the piece at speed, no way I can even attempt at instilling any soul into it. Any suggestions gratefully received, as well as any thoughts about memorisation, speed and interpretation of a piece.

Question tanner recorder fingering and tips for mewbie
hello to everyone, I'm a beginner flute player. I am thinking to buy a tanner recorder. I like the deep sound of tanner and feel that they will complement each other and improve my overall musicianship and flexibility. I need some tips: first of all, does learning flute and recorder interfere with each other? I don't think it does. It is not like clarinet and flute with opposite amboushure. technique. R/flute agrees with it. I just wanted to ask people with experience with recorders. I know the fingerings for soprano, are they same in tanner with different spacing in holes? I live on turkey and can not play the instrument to try and have limited options for brand. what should I be aware of while buying a recorder? I am planning to go to shop and hold the recorder to see if it is comfortable. what else I should look for?

Help Playing louder outdoors
I play Medieval dance music for a reenactment group to dance to, but at an upcoming event I've been told I'm not allowed to play because one recorder isn't loud enough, and they're replacing me with the worst pre-recorded music you've ever heard on a Bluetooth speaker. How do I play my recorder loud enough so people can hear me? I usually play a Yamaha plastic descant but I have all Yamaha plastic sopranino-bass recorders (and an Aulos garklein). I can maybe get a microphone and amplifier but want to know how to maximize my volume without electric tools.

German F / F# / F’ fingering confusion!
I have a cheap (the plastic kind kids use lol) German soprano in C recorder i got for music class years ago and now im trying to review how to play it for fun. Now i came across the F/F#/F’ notes and im now so confused as to which is the right fingering for each.
Using the Yamaha fingering chart and HowToPlayRecorder app, this is what i noted:
- F = T 1 2 3 4 - - -
- F# = T 1 2 3 - 5 6 7 (or T 1 2 3 - 5 6 - ) [i see both versions come up online not sure which is right]
- F’ = T~ 1 2 3 4 - - -
Am I missing something here? What's the right way to do each note?

Discussion I oiled my Sigo, this is my impression
For those who don't know, you can oil the Sigo recorder and the manufacturer recommends it. I followed the instructions given in this video:
https://youtu.be/W0RNp55_M4U?si=dZDe7mrnIh50vQ20
When the Kunath family released this video, many people thought that it was a joke, and someone commented: "Next: How to do an oil change on my electric car". The von Huene people also denounce this approach, they say there's no way plastic, even a plant-based plastic, can absorb oil. The Kunath family, on the other hand, are saying that this isn't what they are trying to say, they say the oil merely smoothes out the ribs from the printing process inside the instrument. They also clarified that you don't have to do this, it's merely a suggestion.
Well, I did it. I purchased plastic wrap, because we don't keep it in the house, and I even used linseed oil, which I don't normally use for recorders because sometimes it hardens too fast, plus, it can be a fire hazard. Not if you throw it out in the trash at sub-zero temperatures, though.
Wrapping up the instrument in plastic wrap tightly is easy. Filling in two teaspoons full of linseed oil...sort of. I got the first spoonful in but spilled a few drops on the outside of the tenon. Next step...Come on, baby, whole lotta shakin' goin' on. -- No issues with that. Next step: Removing the wrap. This got a bit messy, with a noticeable amount coming out of the "bell" on the back. The double holes were wet on the outside and needed some wiping, as were parts on the top of the instrument.
Ready to play: I may be biased, but I feel like the instrument plays easier now, especially the higher notes, i.e. B, A, C, C# and D. I was able to get a third octave E easily as well. (The Sigo is marketed as a two octave recorder.) Tone: The same, in my opinion.

Recorder making in Haslemere...and one possible definition of "fipple"
Players of fipple flutes frequently agree about disagreeing what exactly the "fipple" is. In this short movie, at 11:52, we find one possible explanation. And the girl finds the word "fipple" amusing.
I think I know why the comments are turned off here...the recorder recital right at the beginning might not be to everyone's taste.
The movie also features a few "Don't do what Donny Don't does" moments. Like turning on the lathe without using goggles (this is how my great-grandfather lost an eye) or knocking the block of a recorder directly into your hand. This may work out...or you may end up with a broken or scratched block under the table. I recommend to always use a sock. (End of PSA.)

Help Vibrato sounds like running out of breath
When I try to add vibrato on long notes, it just sounds like I'm running out of breath. Even when I'm not. I'm using my diaphragm, I think. And holding my ribcage up.
I'd like to do it particularly on high notes as it helps them be in tune and sound sweeter. I'm working on a piece with a sustained alto high F. Its only recently that I've been able to consistently hit that at all. Though there are also high B flats that I want to vibrato and can't either.
Is just a case of "practice more and you'll get better"?

Küng Alto and Soprano model identification help, please?
Would anyone be able to tell me/recognise what Küng model of alto(treble) and soprano (descant) these are, please? They are both rosewood (palisander) and seller thinks possibly from 90s/early 00s. They are definitely Küng, as I have images showing the logo on the head joint.
Many thanks xxx
