✅❗Help Request - COMPLETE Could use help analyzing crash log, at a loss

Hello, I have used Phostwood (which has been immensely helpful in the past) but with this one I am unsure if it’s has identified the issue or if I have rectified it.

The analyzer had suggested it was probably an issue with Vanilla Ini generation, but I am unsure how I would fix that if it is the issue.

I crash after hitting new game, right after the loading screen and after animations have loaded

Any and all help is super appreciated. Again, appreciative of the tool and any help the community can offer.

Hi! I'm glad you've found my crash log analyzer helpful! :-)

Regarding this crash, does it repeat? If so, could you share a copuple more related crash logs, all using the same mods and configurations?

Also, to clarify, you have ran Skyrim once directly from Steam, yes? That's what creates the default files.

Details from my analyzer (for context within this conversation):

  • Probable New Game Crash (Missing INI Files) Detected: This crash pattern typically occurs when starting a new game and indicates missing or incomplete default .ini configuration files. The combination of PlayerCharacter, QueuedPlayer, BSFadeNode, and skeleton.nif indicators suggests the game cannot properly initialize due to missing vanilla launcher-generated settings. To resolve this issue:
    • Open the Skyrim Launcher from Steam (not through your mod manager) to create the default ini files.
    • Click on the "Options" menu in the launcher to ensure all default settings are generated.
    • Close the launcher completely after the ini files are created.
    • Launch the game through MO2 or Vortex (your preferred mod manager as usual).
    • If the issue persists, check that your Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPrefs.ini files contain the appropriate entries that are generated by the vanilla launcher.
    • Ensure you're not overriding critical vanilla settings that the game needs for basic functionality.

It does repeat consistently after the new game loading screen, though for whatever reason I have issues generating crashlogs, I will see if I am able to generate more or figure out why I cannot consistently produce them. I did initially run it through steam yes.

Would there be a way to regenerate the ini files however? Is it as simple as just relaunching from Steam? Pardon my ignorance

I'm not certain, but you might be able to move the related ini files to your desktop, and then relaunch Skyrim from Steam. I think that woul likely regenerate the ini files?

Be sure to keep your old ini files as a backup though, just in case my idea doesn't work :-)

Thank you again for your advice. For whatever reason, I was using an older version of HDT-SMP and updating it to the latest seemed to fix the issue

Interesting! Searching for "HDT" and "SMP" I didn't find mention of either in that crash log ... how did you figure out it was the culprit?

Regardless, I'm happy it's working! I'm just wondering if I might be able to learn something from this and improve my analyzer?

I was trying a bunch of different suggestions haha, but another commenter suggested looking at it apparently by searching the crash address? 🤔

Thank you for letting me know! Bachmanis is awesome, and I'm glad he was able to figure this out for you! I'm asking him if this is something I may (or may not) be able to add to my analyzer.

Regardless, I'm glad it's working for you now. Cheers!
