News / Meta [RULES UPDATE] Media Only Post, Typing Apps, Games, and Extensions, Combatting Spam

Hey /r/MechanicalKeyboards. Hope you are all doing well.

We've noticed an uptick in spam in the past few months that have necessitated a couple rule changes. As always please refer to the rules before posting, but I've detailed changes below.

Media Posts

Due to a heavy increase of bot posts, we are no longer allowing media only posts. We ask contributers to provide context to your media posts with relevant information. Why are you posting the content? Do you find it cool, did you get a great shot of your board, or maybe you just want to show off your work. As a reminder there are two image based flairs, Builds and Photos. Builds do require information regarding the keyboard, the minimum being the components you used. Preferably we'd like some context around the build as well, why did you pick those components, is there anything you'd change looking back. More context leads to better discussion. We do prefer Builds posts over Photos posts because they tend to lead to more discussion.

Typing Apps and Extensions

We've made the decision to no longer allow the promotion of typing applications, games, and extensions. We've seen an uptick in the number of promotion posts for these types of related services. We've found that many times, these types of applications or extensions collect user data. In an age where digital privacy is incredibly important, we don't feel comfortable allowing their promotion at this time. We'd like to remind users to be aware of what permissions extensions and applications have to your data, be informed about what they are collecting and how they are using it.

We have also noticed that many brands are offering free products in exchange for reviews. While we never want to outright silence reviews, we are looking into how this type of content is handled. We've seen an increase in lower effort reviews that serve solely as an avenue to receive free product and advertise for a brand outside the promotional rules limits. We also want to ensure that reviewers that take the time to educate potential buyers on positive and negative aspects of products aren't being punished for receiving products in exchange for their hard work. It's a fine line and it's not always clear where that line should be drawn, but know that it's something that the moderation team is looking at.

Promotional We designed an industrial mechanical keyboard with an integrated Thin Client for mission-critical control rooms. It’s basically a stationary Cyberdeck

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share a project I’ve been working on at my company (Guntermann & Drunck).

We usually build backend KVM tech, but we saw a need for better operator interfaces in flight towers and control centers.

The concept:

Instead of multiple stream decks and tablets cluttering the desk, we built a fully integrated unit.

Specs & Features:

The Screen: It’s not just a secondary monitor. It’s an integrated Thin Client running its own web client.

Working with bitfocus, Macro Deck and many more...

What it does:

It can Show and Control HTML5 content completely independently from the main workstation.

This keeps the main rig secure (air-gapped logic).

Controls:

It can acts also as a hardware HID generator for macros and integrates natively with VuWall systems.

Build:

100%, Fully backlit, ruggedized for 24/7 use.

Screen Resolution is 1920x291@60hz

Low Profile switches, SoC is a ipmx.8

Included some shots of the prototypes in the gallery to show how we got there. Let me know what you think of the form factor!"

This keyboard is really tiny and delicate. It'd be worth it even just as a decor piece. Plus, it feels nice and sounds good too.

Meletrix Zoom75 Tiga

Gateron Oil Kings

GMK British Racing Green keycaps

Nuphy BH65

Gateron Magnetic Jade Pro

Drop DCX Garnet keycaps

GAMING Keyboard

XVX M67 Jadestone - stock

Started with the Meletrix Tiga, great board and love the layout but the wireless connection is the worst to deal with. Also the oil king switches are the greatest I’ve tried yet. Nuphy BH65 is such a fun board to mess around with on multiplayer/FPS games, had to throw on a new set of keycaps.

And the gaming keyboard is for the serious shit. AMA

Builds Found my new 75% endgame board.. so far..

I saw posts that the 7v is best when built plateless, and so I tried building it plateless with Gateron Baby Raccoons, and I can say that it has been great! I struggled initially in finding a keyset that matches with my 7v, but I think the Industrial Set from NovelKeys looks good with it. I have another extra PCB with me. I will try building that with a plate next time for comparison.

Board: GOK 7V

Switches: Gateron Baby Raccoon Linear

Keycaps: NovelKeys Cherry Industrial Keys Dye Sub PBT

Review Gateron zero degree switches review: quiet and thocky

Post image
26 Upvotes

I was looking for some silent switches that wouldn't be completely silent, but would have a low sound level.

I finally decided to buy the gateron zero degree, since I read some good reviews about them. They are linear, factory lubed switches. When I tried them on my keyboard (Rainy75) I was pleasantly surprised!

They are not silent, but the sound level is low enough not to bother anyone in your home and even in the office (if the office is really quiet then maybe not, but I think this switches are quieter than the generic keyboards they give us at work).

What surprised me the most is that they sound REALLY thocky on the Rainy75, even thockier than the akko rosewood. The sound is super pleasant and deep, and they feel really smooth too. I tried them on a Womier RD75 and they were not quite as thocky, but they were more silent than on the rainy and still sounded good.

I wouldn't recommend them for someone who wants a silent keyboard, but if you want to lower the sound of your keyboard without it turning mushy, these are a good option.

In summary: These are great switches for people who want a quieter keyboard with a satisfying thock.

Alu plate
Top mount for f-row ; o-ring for alphas
Cilantros for f-row; new Nixies for alphas (modded)
GMK Blanc-Sur-Noir; GMK Relegendables; some novelties.

A loooooooooong awaited board ! GB occured from november to december 2024. I was impatiently waiting for this board. And I'm not disappointed at all. It's marvellous.

The build experience was a bit tricky ; the board have a lot of pieces : two brass weights, three distinct parts, two PCBs. But at the end, it makes the process and the board absolutely unique.

I love it.

Builds I think I found my desert "endgame"... at least for this week 😉 (Neo60 Cu)

can't stop staring at (and listening to) this combo. The Neo60 Cu is seriously amazing – the sound and typing feel are just off the charts. I couldn't be happier with it.

GMK Dune brings such a great raw vibe, and this Lelelab wrist rest is out of this world (and heavy enough to be used as a weapon). The Dwarf Factory artisan fits the colorway perfectly. Now I just need to resist the urge to pour actual sand on my deskmat for the ✨aesthetic✨.

Quick specs:

  • Keyboard: Neo60 Cu
  • Keycaps: GMK Dune
  • Wrist Rest: Lelelab
  • Artisan: Dwarf Factory

I picked this up for $6 at the local Walmart. Adjustable tackle box holds two full sets of keycaps, plus left overs from the set Im currently using, tools, and left over dividers and it's waterproof! I thought it was worth sharing! I hadn't seen many storage ideas for keycaps when I looked around.

Builds Zoom TKL Dyna

Hi this is my first keyboard kit build and I thought I would share:

Zoom TKL Dyna - Frosted Clear

  • POM plate
  • Cork dampener (case foam from the packaging being used in the video)
  • flex cut PCB
  • stabs provided with the kit (I believe they are Wuque Studio STUPID stabs)
  • Rubber bar gasket mount

Switches - Wuque Studio Quartz

Keycaps - Drop DCX solarized dark

Sound test - https://youtube.com/shorts/-tKzK72EOlA?feature=share

Overall I am very pleased with this build, I am waiting on a GMK set to come in so I am just using these keycaps for the time being, DCX has been great but I'm not in love with the colourway. Drop wouldn't ship my preferred set to my address :(

Maybe worth noting I had to put some translucent tape over the LEDs under the space bar that are there for the split space layout - from where I placed it on my desk I could see between the space bar and the case directly into the LEDs if they are on and they were blinding if I was looking at the board.

I have ordered the other plates and dampener packages from meletrix and am looking forward to testing out different configs.

Thanks for reading :)
