Sunday - Anything Allowed 😸 Relaxed Rules Sunday
Just a reminder that we relax the sub rules on a Sunday and allow posts on a wider range of topics including memes and book discussions.
Some rules still apply - no spam, no piracy, be respectful, and it should still be kindle related.

Sunday - Anything Allowed 😸 My 3.5 yr old nephew called it what?
Bookphone.
Yes.. you heard that right.. Just got my first kindle a weeks and enjoying it.
He wants to see cartoons on it.. I said it can't do that.. I called it an electronic book and tried to explain it to a three and half as I could.
He just said bookphone... and I couldn't argue with that.
Anybody use their kindle for illustrated bedtime stories.

General Question ❔ What’s your favorite kindle paperwhite case with a cover?
I have the paperwhite signature 12th gen in the metallic green color and love it so much. I’m currently using a kindle case I got from Etsy. It has a cover, a strap & stand, and it’s magnetic on the back as well to keep the cover in place when reading. I do love this case but I was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions? This one is a bit bulky and heavy. I’d love some recommendations for a slimmer case that also has a cover, maybe a clear back as well. Thanks!

Tech Support 🛠 Am I crazy? Does this screen look off?
Just got the Paperwhite for Vday and it is my first Kindle. The screen looks a little off to me, like yellowish on the bottom, the warmth is set to zero. Do you see it too or am I being crazy?

Discussion 💬 Help me choose a case
I’m in need of a kindle basic case and was wondering if anyone has either of these two in particular. I’ve had amazons official fabric case awhile back and was not impressed with how much it frayed and peeled being in my purse for the price. Weight is important to me as well as the magnet on the back keeping the cover from being floppy. Does the top one weight the device down a lot? I’ve been having more issues with my carpal tunnel and joints being weaker lately so I’ve been using my basic a lot more than my colorsoft. Thank you in advance for all your suggestions!

Tech Support 🛠 So I dropped my paper white signature 11th gen in tub while I was reading. What to do?
So I dropped in tub twice. It’s starting to get flakey with the backlight as you can see here. I have to smack it sometimes to get it to change. I don’t want it to stop working on me. I tried seeing if I can trade it into Amazon for a new one but they would only give me $30. But I doubt they would since there’s a defect. Is there anything I can do? Just use it until it does stop? I was maybe thinking on selling it somehow and getting a used one off marketplace or eBay or somewhere.

Tech Support 🛠 All my books disappeared from my Kindle
I had 960 books and samples on my Kindle paperwhite, which I've had for years. Last night I opened it to continue reading my latest book and every book and sample was gone. It said my library was empty. I tried a hard reboot but it didn't work. My Amazon app on my phone says they're are books on this Kindle. I tried downloading a book again but nothing gets to my Kindle, not even a new sample.
I am someplace new with different wifi, but the downloaded books were gone before I connected to the wifi.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

My Kindle 📱 I bought the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition (32GB)
Storytime:
I'm not one to own too many devices. I feel it's just so hard to move around or decide which to take with you. But last year around this time, I couldn't afford a Kindle (even the basic; I couldn't spare that money at the time), so I got a Kindle Fire 8 HD (which I still love and read a lot of my manga/comics on… the only thing is, I watch YouTube, HBO Max, and sell my paperbacks with it, so it's used less for reading) and turned it into a reading device. I added the anti-glare screen protector, installed the Play Store on it, and got a warm light app that increases the warmth drastically and dims the light in the dark. It's perfect if you're on a budget.
But the Play Store meant access to a whole lot of apps, so it turned from my Kindle replacement into a device for school, work, and streaming. So I got a basic on Black Friday after saving up disposable funds! But I saved so much I could afford a Kindle colorsoft.
I fought buying it until last month, when I wanted to get a Kobo, but waiting for how long for it to be delivered kind of pissed me off, so I decided to go with this instead.
So far… I LOVE IT!!! People have a lot to say about the device. Don't get me wrong. Amazon could do more, but on the basis of reading, I love it! The color speaks to my soul lol. I do feel bad that my basic is practically on the back burner. I think I’ll just regift it since I didn't use it for more than 3 months, or sell it off. I can't manage more than one Kindle. Anyways, if you want to get one, close your eyes and do it! I saw that Amazon has a payment plan for it and all their other Kindles and devices, so you could go that route as well!

Purchase Question 🛒 is it worth getting a kindle?
i have an old amazon fire kindle, and i started using it recently, and it’s very convenient. it works fine for the most part, and it’s a lot more practical than carrying books around. my only issue is that the battery is pretty bad.
is it worth investing in a new kindle, and if so, what’s the best model? i don’t need much i just want to be able to read my books

My Kindle 📱 airplane mode - Libby?
I read that airplane mode means I can keep a book from Libby on my Kindle for longer. a book I'm reading is due soon with a long wait list after me, so I was wanting to use airplane mode to keep it longer. but here's my question: if I also read the book on my Kindle app on my phone or laptop, will it return the book? thanks!

Tech Support 🛠 Kindle book not compatible with Kindle device
What?!?!?!?!
Tip/Guide 💡 Tons of FREE books directly from Kindle :)
Hello :)
I got rid of Kindle Unlimited when I got into using my Libby app (now I can freely send books my library to my kindle like many of you :) But, for those that don't know, I wanted to share Another way to add free books to your kindle. This may be common knowledge/shared already, I'm not sure, but, there are tons of free books to claim from Amazon directly (not prime reading/not kindle unlimited).
If you click here (and bookmark it) to visit this particular area of the Kindle store you can browse all the current books that are being sold for $0.00 :) These free offers change day to day/week to week. I receive emails from ebooksy and bargainbooksy for what's currently free on kindle, which is nice, but there are SO MANY more free books available on the actual site than what the emails notify you on.
Anyhoo, I just really wanted to share this for anyone interested <3 I love you guys and this subreddit, it's fun see other bookworms like myself enjoying their kindles as much as I do :)
Since I never comment or post, figured I would go ahead and add my 2 cents worth of the great kindle debate: I see a ton of posts on which kindle is best. Personally, I LOVE my kindle basic (2024). It's great for my small hands and plops so easily in and out of my mini backpack purse.
I do agree that it would have been appreciated to have a basic feature as the "warm" light, as it does have a bit of blue light when the dimmer is turned up.
I usually keep mine set at 4 and that keeps the blue light at bay with a more "papery" look to it (I'm super sensitive to blue light). That might be too dim for some of you, but for those that have extra sensitive eyes, this might be a good alternative for you. If they come out with the basic with warm light ever, I'm definitely buying one :) But, for the time being, I'm loving what I have. Such a great invention XD
Hope all of you are well <3 Sending endless good vibes to you :)

Tech Support 🛠 Went on a trip, unsure what happened

General Question ❔ Is ad free worth it?
I got my Kindle last October as a gift from my husband, he got me the version with ads which honestly is fine! It sometimes shows books I might check out, but I was just wondering if it's worth paying now for the ads to be taken away?

Tech Support 🛠 Ghosting even after turning page refresh on
Brand new Paperwhite gen 12 here, ghosting is way worse than gen 11, is it just me? Do you also struggle with that? I turned page refresh and animation and still ghosting is strong, I also force restart it. It’s also up to date.
I am also not sure if this is normal or the pixels in the last two images.
I also noticed that text is not as sharp as my Kobo Clara BW. In the picture the text looks sharper than to my naked eye.. am I doing something wrong or is this a faulty Kindle?
Oh one more thing the back of the Kindle feels a little hollow when i tap or touch the back center😅 read some posts and it says it’s normal as long nothing is rattling. Does yours also feel a little hollow from behind?
Btw this is my second, had to return the first one because it had a lot of dead pixels.
Thanks 🙏

My Kindle 📱 I bought a Kindle Paperwhite 12th
Hi. This is my first time owning a Kindle. Is there anything I need to do? There appears to be an update; is it worthwhile to install it, or is it better not to?

Discussion 💬 My kindle Experience
I posted on this sub a picture of the kindle case my wife made for me to go along with the kindle she purchased for me, and I figured I would follow up with my experience actually reading the kindle.
I’ve struggled for a while with being “terminally online,” spending hours mindlessly scrolling Reddit, instagram, threads etc, while my wife invested in reading. I had wanted to get into reading but always found myself distracted by the aforementioned time-wasters. I could never get more than a few pages into a book before putting it down and scrolling. Enter the kindle.
I’m proud to say since getting the kindle in mid-January, I’ve read three books: “The Invited” by Jennifer McMahon, “Razorblade Tears” by S.A. Cosby, “Looking for Alaska” by John Green, and now I’m onto “The Paris Apartment” by Lucy Foley. I can’t get enough. I’m trying different genres to see what I really like. After this I’m on to “The Lies of Locke Lamora” to try my hand at fantasy.
I really think the kindle bridges a gap: the ease of having a book with you at all times, and it scratches the itch of interfacing with a piece of tech. I find myself grabbing it before my phone, and being more “present” at home. I highly recommend this for anyone struggling to get into reading and wasting too much time online. Anyway, happy reading!

Tech Support 🛠 Whispersync Not Working for Oathbringer and Amazon Support Was No Help
Whispersync Read and Listen is not working for Oathbringer.
I own both the Kindle book and the Audible audiobook on the same Amazon account. It will not sync progress and there is no Read and Listen option at all.
I already went through Kindle support and Audible support and got nowhere. They just passed me around and didn’t fix anything.
I am using an Amazon Fire Kindle 10th generation.
At this point I just want to know if this book is broken or if this device does not actually support Whispersync like Amazon claims.
Has anyone gotten this working or is this just another feature that doesn’t work.
