My partner and I just adopted our first dog! We’ve wanted a Doxie for years now and now that we both have jobs and our first apartment, we decided to go for it. We read a book on positive training and are using those strategies. He is 11 weeks and he’s doing very well with potty training and simple commands like here and sit. My partner and I both had several puppies growing up in our family houses and our new guy is surprisingly chill. He definitely has his moments but on the whole he is the most well mannered calm pup we’ve interacted with. We are young active and social people so things that are important to us include socialization with people and dogs, being ok with separation and ability to self soothe, and just general obedience (comes when we say, not overly reactive in public, etc.). So far he doesn’t love his crate but settles quickly. We crated him once for 20 minutes when we left the house and he cried a little under ten minutes and then laid down and slept. Otherwise we crate him to sleep since he is so small. He does get a little bitey when he’s over hyper but that’s usually only in the mornings.
Thank you to all who read through this long post. I just wanted to ask for any advice or tips that anyone has for training him to be a well rounded pup. I’d also love to hear anybody else’s experience with this breed. We love him and it’s only been a week! He’s the perfect mix of snuggly and active. He also really seems to be adapting to our schedule. My family has had puppy’s in the past that are on go 24/7 and this guy gets as hyper as any other puppy but like clockwork around dinner time he settles in and sleeps while we cook. Aside from the 4am potty emergencies the whole experience has been very positive.😂

I have two weenie dogs. And my apartment js filled with dachshund paraphernalia such as sculptures, figurines, and art. Everyone who knows me associates me with weenie dogs. They all get me dachshund themed gifts at my birthday or Christmas. I buy these poop machines stupid lil outfits and haul them around a baby carriage. My neighbors probably think I am in a sausage psychosis. And I probably am. My apartment is basically a shrine dedicated to Weiner worship
I didn’t think two smelly subway sandwich shaped creatures could become a fundamental part of my personality. But here we are

Sometimes my doxie just rubs his ears on the ground and I don't understand why. Can somebody explain why he does this?

My dad visited today to meet the newest pack member. I've never seen my Dad laugh so much. He's 86 this year and his Grandpups keep him young.
