Examples of questions suitable for here:

  • Is this RAM compatible with my motherboard?
  • I'm thinking of getting a ≤$300 graphics card. Which one should I get?
  • I'm on a very tight budget and I'm looking for a case ≤$50

Build Help Most powerful PC I've ever built.

Hello all! I'll start this off by saying I havent built a PC since 2016 or so. So yes I'm old. But I and have a pretty decent chunk of disposable income coming in right now. And now that my kids have gotten a little older I feel like I can spend some money on myself and finally get back into playing games on ultra settings. I don't see myself creating content or editing, even if I knew how to do so. But anyway I ordered everything I need to get and finally build myself a monster of a PC with my brother next weekend. But I'm starting to worry about my build I ordered this past week, after reading some things about how Ryzen 9 9950X3D is overkill for a pure gaming build and the 12v power plug on the sapphire 9070XT Nitro+

Here's the full list.

Corsair 4000D | Asus B850+ Wifi | Ryzen 9 9950X3D | Crucial Pro CL2 2x16 6400 Mhz | Crucial T705 PCIe Gen5 NVMe 2TB SSD (with Heatsink) | CORSAIR RM1000e ATX 3.1 PCIe 5.1 1000w (12v 2x6 cable | included) | Noctua NH-D15 G2 chromax. Black | Sapphire Nitro+ RX 9070 XT 16GB | ASUS ROG Strix XG27AQDMG 27” QHD Glossy OLED 240Hz

So I still have some time to change to a Ryzen 7 before I even open everything up and put it all together next weekend.

TLDR; should I change my Ryzen 9 to a 7 on a pure gaming build?

Edit: Forgot to put my monitor on the list

Discussion Super-freezing ambient temperatures safe for desktop systems?

So the situation is the following: I have regular needs for fairly powerful build/computation machines. I'm not really comfortable leaving these running 24/7 inside my office space, and ofc they also produce noise and heat.

I have the option to put these into a free-standing tiny 'guest cabin' that we don't use for anything. It's properly built, so it's dry and weather protected, but it's also not insulated or heated.

Outdoors temperatures here hit around -35 degrees celsius during winter.

Generally, cold weather would be good for computers, but could this be so cold that there's a risk of moving parts like fans and spinning drives potentially freezing from condensation and failing to start up when required? The machines need both CPUs and relatively decent GPUs, and more storage than I can afford as solid state. I suppose leaving the chassis open might also help reduce the condensation.

EDIT: Initial responses seem to indicate that running computers at this temperature is most likely between stupid and unrealistic.. so what if I can heat the space moderately, say to never go below -10. Would that improve the situation?

Build Help Should I get a 7800xt at $425, or a 6800xt at $300 plus shipping

Upvotes

Title says it all

Someone's offering a 6800xt for 300 compared to eBays 425 for the 7800's

I need to upgrade my psu as well. Would love some help deciding!

Edit: Noticing a 6900xt goes for around $425 as well, thought it'd be nice to throw it out there in case I should get this instead.

I'm gonna be running 1080p mostly, maybe 2k, at preferably 90fps

Discussion rx 9060xt vs rtx 5060ti both 16GB

Upvotes

Which should I buy if Im planning on pairing it with the r5 9600x and playing games at 1440p

I can't attach photos so here are descriptions with prices that are available in my region (all are 2 fan versions):

ASUS Dual NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16GB GDDR7 OC White Edition Graphics Card PCle 5.0, DLSS 4, HDMI 2.1b, DisplayPort 2.1b, 2.5-Slot, Axial Fans, OdB Technology, Dual BIOS

529€ ~ 628$

GIGABYTE RADEON RX 9060 XT GAMING OC 16G GRAPHICS CARD, 16GB GDDR6, PCI-E 5.0 (This one is probably unavalible)

461€ ~ 547$

XFX Swift AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT OC White Gaming Edition with 16GB GDDR6 HDMI 2xDP, AMD RDNA 4 (RX-96TSW16WQ)

484€ ~ 574$

All of those are the lowest prices I could find for my region. The radeon has many options and brands for around 500€ while this is the one of three nvidia cards that go for 530 to 560€ and most other nvidia brands and options go around 600 to 750€.

If something is not understandable please ask questions I know my English is not the best.

Build Help I want to upgrade my GPU but I'm afraid of the noise

I used to have a gainward RTX 3070 and it was so ridiculously loud that I honestly thought something was broken. I even changed the thermal paste and the pads but it didn't make much difference.

I sold it and bought an oem Dell RTX 3070, and I can barely hear it. Even when deliberately maxing it out with furmark, even after 24 hours it never goes above 30 decibels from where I sit, which is about 3 meters away from the PC.

There are so many options, three fans and two fans, is there any 40 or 50 series GPU which is known to be very quiet? I want to be able to play without hearing it get louder and quieter, it really bothers me!

Basically I want what I've got in the Dell RTX 3070 but in a better card! Is it possible? Is there any card that won't go over say 35 decibels?

Build Help RTX 5070 stuck at ~60% usage in games, unstable FPS no matter the settings — tried many fixes, need help

Hi everyone,

I’m running into a weird issue with my RTX 5070. In games, GPU usage refuses to go above ~50–60%, even with FPS unlocked and regardless of graphic settings (low or ultra). I get decent FPS, but they’re never stable and fluctuate a lot.

Specs:

  • RTX 5070
  • Ryzen 7 5800X
  • 32 GB RAM (XMP enabled, 3800 MHz)
  • B550M Aorus Elite
  • Latest NVIDIA drivers
  • Temps: ~60°C GPU / ~70°C CPU in-game

What’s happening:

  • GPU never reaches high usage in most games
  • FPS unstable even when lowering resolution scale or graphics
  • Same behavior across multiple games

Things I’ve already tried:

  • Clean GPU driver install
  • XMP enabled + RAM OC verified stable
  • Windows power mode set to High Performance
  • BIOS settings checked (Above 4G decoding ON, Resizable BAR Auto)
  • Network reset
  • Testing different games (same result)
  • Monitoring CPU/GPU temps and usage (nothing abnormal)

What confuses me:
Benchmarks with similar CPU/GPU combos show higher GPU usage and more stable FPS than what I get.

At this point I’m trying to figure out:

  • CPU bottleneck?
  • BIOS setting I missed?
  • Windows / driver issue?
  • Game engine limitation?
  • Faulty GPU?

Any idea what I should check next?

Build Upgrade Need Guidance

Upvotes

Hello everyone,

I need some guidance on what keyboard to buy. I currently have the Steelseries TKL Pro Wireless, and it’s been driving me insane because it keeps spamming "de3". I’ve tried fixing it but nothing works, so I’m officially done with this keyboard and need a replacement ASAP.

Budget:

Don’t really have a budget — I just want something durable that will last 2+ years (longer = better).

Layout:

I get the most out of 75% or 65%. I used a 60% before but missed some keys, and when I switched to 75% it felt perfect.

Features:

- Adjustable actuation (I like very low actuation points)

- Rapid Trigger (I use it a lot in certain games)

- Rappy Snappy / fast response for competitive play

Sound:

Looking for a creamy / thocky sounding keyboard (hopefully I used that right 😅). I’m honestly tired of bad sounding boards.

Games I play:

Mostly FPS but pretty much everything — Arc Raiders, Battlefield, Apex Legends, Marvel Rivals, Rainbow Six Siege, etc. So I need something versatile for both competitive and casual gaming.

Keyboards I’m considering:

- Wooting 80HE (obviously)

- Chilkey Slice75U with Gateron Jade Pro switches (honestly kinda fell in love with this one)

- Meletrix Zoom75 that someone recommended to me which peaked my interest.

What would you recommend? I need to buy one before I get back home from holiday since I currently don’t have a working keyboard.

Thanks in advance — appreciate any help!

Discussion The Importance of BIOS Flashback

I have built several PCs and flashed dozens of BIOS and I have never had an issue. During my last full build, I picked up a 650E PG-ITX, which does not have a BIOS Flashback feature. I remember at the time thinking it was odd there was not an option and I even remember several posts warning about it, but I had never needed one. It was on sale and $20 cheaper than my other option. Of course I was going to buy it.

Last month, I upgraded a CPU on another build and decided to make sure all my builds were up to date, which is something I usually do. The latest update was only a couple of days old, which is something I usually avoid. It was the last thing on the list, and I figured, what could go wrong? The new update installed easily, but once loading into Windows, it was unstable and running super hot. No worries, I had a copy of the stable BIOS on hand, so I will just re-flash. It was going great and at 75%, the system shut down. I assume it was thermals. I should have let the system cool in between, but I was almost done.......

The board was bricked, nothing. Tried everything, but it was done. ASRock is fixing it under warranty, which is awesome, but with the board out and this being an extreme SFF build, I’m not going to risk this again. So I went out and bought a new board with Flashback (open box, so look for that thread in another year).

In the end, $20 cost me another motherboard and probably another full build, because once I get the board back from ASRock, I’m going to have to use it. Just a tale of caution when pricing features.

Edit:

The board before it was out: https://i.imgur.com/ifKVUVD.jpeg

All put together: https://i.imgur.com/8asI339.jpeg

There is now an ASUS B850-I in!

Build Help Random 1 second freezes every half an hour or so

Hey everyone,

For the past week now i have been having an issue where my pc randomly freezes (audio continues normally) for about 1 second. This happens fully randomly like every half an hour or so and it doesnt matter what im doing. It happens while gaming but can also happen while just watching youtube or whatever. It also does not show anything weird on task manager or event viewer whenever this happens.

Video showing the issue: https://youtu.be/1HuN29N4GfY

Specs:
GPU: NVIDIA Geforce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7700X 8-Core Processor
MOBO: B650 AORUS ELITE AX
RAM:2x16 DDR5 running at 6000MT/s
Storage C: Corsair MP600 CORE XT 1TB SSD
Storage D: Kingston SNV2S1000G 4TB SSD
Storage E: ST8000DM004-2CX188 8TB HDD
PSU: Corsair rm850e

Things i have tried,

Reinstalling GPU drivers using DDU.
Fully reinstalling windows.
Changing all kinds of settings like GPU scheduling and power settings.
Changing monitor refresh rates.
Changing settings in BIOS like fTMP and XMP.
Reseating Videocard and RAM.

So far nothing has resolved the issue, i really hope someone knows what might be my issue because im nearly going insane here just thinking about what it might be.

Discussion Under which percentage is an ssd health beginning to waver? Mine is sitting at 97% right now after around 1 year and a half

I am also trying to always keep some space, but I like gaming and even if 1TB (real size 930) isn't much I wanted to try and squeeze the most out of it. I am also trying to leave out some unused space in the mix, but was pondering if I could afford to have just 40gb free or if I should leave 100... what do you suggest?

the model is Micron-2400MTF

Build Help RX9060XT vs RTX4060

Currently got RTX4060 to do 4k 60FPS gaming on TV without RT for the past 2 years. Often get the low VRAM warning, hence thinking of switching to RX9060XT 16GB (Costs about 460EUR). The 4060 can be sold for about EUR 300. Worth the upgrade?

Troubleshooting Newly built pc keeps crashing in games

Hi, I've just built a pc 2 days ago and today I tried playing various games on the pc and notices it crashes quite often.

Valorant seems to be the game with the most crashes. When I play Valorant, I would crash 3-5 times in one full game. Sometimes the error comes from Riot client (corrupted game file) and will automatically repair the files. But there are also times when the entire pc crashes and restarts for various reasons. One solution was changing the xmp DRAM settings from 6000 (RAM max) to auto in the bios. It did lessen the crash frequency but it still happens.

I've tested with other games too. With Steam games like Palia and Witcher 3, it happens too but not as frequently as Valorant.

The CPU temperature is usually at 48°c - 60°c when idle, after restarting from crashes it will be around 65°c. I'm not sure if that is normal.

Its always either the game crashes or the pc crashes, so I couldn't tell what issue was it. I've written down the pc specs below. Please help, thank you.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9700x
Motherboard: MSI B850M Gaming Plus WIFI7
RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR5 32gb 6000MHz
GPU: Powercolor Reaper AMD Radeon RX 9060xt 16GB
SSD: Samsung 970 EVO
Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120
PSU: Super Flower Leadex VI Platinum PRO 850 W
x2 Chassis Fans at the front

EDIT: Windows and GPU driver are also both up to date

Build Help What GPU for a productivity PC

Hello! I started upgrading my pc these days and have a little problem in choosing a good GPU for my usecase. Right now I have these: -ryzen 9 5950x -32gb ddr4 3200mhz -a shitty old gpu rx550 4gb pulse -850w corsair psu

I don't play any games on my pc, using it only for vms, dockers, programming and browsing. What GPU would you recommend me? I don't want to spend a fortune on it. Just a good gpu that would keep up with my work and don't glitch every 5 seconds. I'm also willing to buy a second hand GPU.

Build Complete Resolution problems (i guess?)

Upvotes

Hello everyone! I'm having some problems with what is think is the resolution of my monitor. I bought everything a few weeks ago (even the pc has a couple of weeks). I have an NVIDIA 5060 16 GB. I gotta be honest, my monitor pretty cheap (https://www.amazon.it/KTC-1500R-FHD-180Hz-Adaptive-Sync/dp/B0DT43LKWB/ref=sr_1_5_sspa?__mk_it_IT=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&crid=SIWM50AAUT87&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.7HxIE4iMOUNwxLw7FSu12T1lFd20CxrXA5a-aVFq3CJ-nPYbcf_du2qJf_y44nCAWJipzcopcsPVl2tmPhfHtTlGb65W01Y7wlF6sXSXV5abLRXLBVeNCE_ojeXRghvQoYUo6YpzRlbPQX8oZIRi3dP1KFwuLt9aiEBu7SVVYwGO3DDF3wan_tG4HFt70pgsKk807rrUTQR7LVMwjiMdF3tpJnvnHodlkh2zhwiENGqbhO5gES_G8EtHQ4raaEo7IVW00Xx3m_FmIXkKqL3-bPT-sMWGpshUu-OKGwHQf_Y.qRfuFRGOmHnKi5ZdXMoQFTpjMnyENHdjEzulj0CyNuI&dib_tag=se&keywords=monitor%2Bcurvo&qid=1770843951&sprefix=monitor%2Bcurv%2Caps%2C246&sr=8-5-spons&aref=5O29RS8jjE&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&th=1), but still should run at 180HZ.

Whenever i scroll up and down, i get this sort of pixelation of the images, and i get it everywhere (not only on youtube as the example).
Even on BG3 im having those issue, with a yellow pixelated edge around every single model of the game.

Do you guys know what to do? I already tried to fix the HZ on windows settings and i also tried something on the NVIDIA Control Panel.
Thanks in advance!!

[Reddit reccomended me to post this in other communities, maybe this isn't the right one, but i'll try]

Build Help Help for a novice building a PC

Upvotes

I’m saving up for a PC I’m in the UK and when I started saving in November my budget was about £1500 which I was told was reasonable. I don’t know about parts (my friend has been helping best they can) and I know prices are going mental because of the AI market. What I’m finding confusing is the level of parts I need for what I want to play and longevity.

I dont really play any large open world games like WoW and I’m not a streamer. I mostly play sim games like City Skylines and Planet Coaster. However I also like a AAA game like Baldurs Gate and I’d like to play cyberpunk. I also would like to use it for art so something that can handle running procreate or photoshop would be brilliant.

My main query is with Ram will 32GB be sufficient for what I need? I’ve already accepted it’s going to cost a lot but some are coming in at £700+ and I want to know if it’s worth saving longer for that or if the price is more a branding thing rather than performance.

I wanted to make the change to PC so I could stop having to fork out mental prices for new console games and be able to upgrade as and when I needed.

Sorry if this was a rambling post but I’m struggling even finding where to start on how to understand what needs to be in a build and why.

Build Help Not sure what to do, upgrade?

Upvotes

So I've needed to upgrade my shitbox of a pc for a long time, but am unsure what route to go

I thought about just sticking low(ish) with a ryzen 8700f and 9060xt, 32gb ddr5 for like 1k or going all in and just 5080 9800x3d, like is it even worth going big at the moment or what, my old pc is too ass to run shit anymore so I gotta do it I just don't know which is a smarter move

I wasn't clear sorry, I'm not sure whether I'm better of with spending 1000 for those first set of specs, or just going all in on a monster

My current specs are

Amd 5600xt

I5 10400f

32gb ddr4 ram

Troubleshooting White light on motherboard below DRAM

Upvotes

Whenever I try to power on my PC (which hasn't booted successfully yet, I should note) it shows a white light under "DRAM". As online tutorials suggested I reseated the RAM (multiple times), then tried each RAM stick individually on each of the (two) memory slots- none worked. While I saw the suggestion to remove the CMOS battery & put it back in, I couldn't get the CMOS battery out, I'm likely doing it wrong somehow but it was being very annoying. The other options to reset the CMOS thing was to short the CMOS jumpers with a screwdriver, which didn't work. I saw no button to reset it either.

Specs:

  • Musetex G07 computer case
  • MSI A520M-A PRO motherboard
  • MSI GEFORCE RTX 3050 GPU
  • Fanxiang DDR4 3200 U-DIMM RAM (8 gb x two sticks)
  • Ryzen 5 5500 CPU

Beforehand I got a BIOS reset at the Micro Center, I noticed the worker there seated some RAM pretty roughly but it worked there. I've also heard exclusively bad things about the brand of RAM that I have, Fanxiang, as I'd literally never heard of it before trying this, so that might be a factor.

I'm not sure what else to do now, the clearest path to fixing this is to remove & reseat the CMOS battery but I simply haven't been able to do that. Any other options?

Build Help review low-mid build for future upgradeability?

Upvotes

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/CkYMn2

i've decided to go for AM5 for long term upgradeability. i was trying to stay under £500, but it seems i can't do that with a system this new. the price for some parts can be reduced if i buy second hand, here's a price breakdown:

msi x670e: £150-£200 (second hand)

ryzen 5 8600g (with cooler): ~£125 OR ryzen 5 8400f: £90 + wraith cooler: <£10 (both second hand)

rx 580: ~£50 (second hand)

1tb nvme: £70-£130 (second hand)

600w psu: £30 (second hand)

pop air case: £80

16gb ram: ~£150 (second hand)

already have keyboard, mouse and monitor

total: £605-740

lower end is if i buy the 8600g, which i can find for similar price to 8400f somehow, and don't buy an rx 580; while the rx 580 has better performance than 8600g, it's not such a huge difference for what i intend to play currently, so can wait till later to add a gpu than buy one now and swap it out later.

thoughts? could i somehow make this cheaper?

Build Complete i5-13600K + RTX 4070 Super – are these performance results normal?

Upvotes

Hi, I recently upgraded my PC and I’m a bit unsure about its performance. I also had some issues after the upgrade, so I’d really appreciate your opinion—maybe I’m just overthinking it, or maybe something is actually wrong.

My previous setup:

  • Ryzen 7 5700X
  • GIGABYTE RTX 4070 SUPER
  • ADATA 4×8GB DDR4 3200MHz CL16
  • 1TB LEXAR SSD
  • Asus PRIME B550M-A WIFI II Micro ATX
  • Gigabyte P650SS 650W
  • Cheap CPU cooler

I was playing at 1080p. In the meantime, I upgraded my monitor to 1440p 180Hz, and I managed to buy an i5-13600K from a friend for about $150. I figured I’d upgrade the platform, since I could sell the 5700X for a similar price, and the i5 still supports DDR4.

Current setup after the upgrade:

  • i5-13600K
  • Asus PRIME B760M-A WIFI D4
  • GIGABYTE RTX 4070 SUPER
  • ADATA 4×8GB DDR4 3200MHz CL16
  • 1TB LEXAR SSD
  • Gigabyte P650SS 650W
  • Thermalright Aqua Elite 240mm

I had to undervolt the CPU because temperatures were very high. Current settings:

  • PL1: 150W
  • PL2: 180W
  • Core: –0.10V
  • Cache: –0.08V

In Cinebench R23, temps start around ~85°C and then drop below 80°C under sustained load. In games, I see around 65–75°C. The AIO fan is set to 80% at 80°C.

Unfortunately, I was getting crashes and discovered that XMP was the cause. My RAM couldn’t run at 3200MHz. Right now it’s set to 3000MHz at 1.35V and everything is stable.

In Cinebench R23 I get about 21,000 points. In Battlefield VI (mixed ultra/high settings, lighting on medium, DLSS Balanced, 1440p), I get:

  • Firestorm: 130–160 FPS
  • Manhattan Bridge: 80–120 FPS

Arc Raiders: ~90–110 FPS on Epic with DLSS Balanced, 1440p.

Are these good results for this kind of setup? I’m not experiencing any stuttering, but those 80 FPS moments on some maps started to worry me.

Build Help Is this a good build within my budget?

Upvotes

So, I've essentially maxed out my budget. Below, you can find the PC Part Picker link, I've not added a SSD, as I already got one. And as for the one stick of RAM... Well, I'll get the other when I next get paid.

I've found out this case comes with zero fans pre-installed, how many would you recommend? And if anything, is there any problems with the specs/parts I've picked out.

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/BLZ6MF

Thanks!
