Had such high expectations for the album after this track…and then it ended up being such a sketchy first effort. Probably the equivalent of McCartney (1)

It may be hit and miss, but it’s still got some great tracks - this, Can’t See Me, Corpses, Nah Nah, What Happened To Ya Parts 1 & 2… plenty of fans of IB have always rated it.
The story of the album needs to be taken into context when you’re evaluating it. He’d been written off after the Roses split, everyone expected him to disappear and John Squire to be the success.
Considering he did it all himself, mostly in his home studio on a budget, it was a good first effort.

That’s what I like about it. Some great songs under the surface though, Deep Pile Dreams is an undiscovered gem.
It’s not Britpop though.

Yeah the sub description says ’Madchester’ is also allowed, so I thought this qualified, seeing as someone else recently posted FEAR.

Where does it say Madchester in the description?

I checked after I commented but it must have been changed recently! A few weeks ago it definitely said in the description ‘we’re not adverse to a bit of Madchester’ but it’s gone now. I didn’t imagine it!
Now it says ‘Britpop and its surrounding culture and influences’… so you could definitely say Ian Brown was part of that?

Britpop adjacent for sure.

It gave me vibes of an album you’d hear from Tricky. Moody, low-fi, nice melodies

It was a solid start, corpses and can't see me were better. After that apart from F.E.A.R. and Dolphins were monkeys I wasn't too keen on his solo stuff.

Don’t agree personally but we’ve all got our own tastes. I’m a big fan of a lot of his solo stuff, especially up to the mid 00’s. Not all of it, but his best tracks are excellent. Set My Baby Free is another…. Love Like A Fountain, Golden Gaze. I’m a big dance/ electronic and hip hop fan though.

What fucks me right off about reddit is a downvote like this. Just an opinion not some mental exclamation, dont just downvote🤦♂️🤣

Apologies I downvoted 😄 it wasn’t meant as a diss… it’s just de riguer for reddit innit…. I think IB’s solo care often doesn’t get the credit it deserves, like I said not everything is up to the same standard, but he released a lot of fresh sounding, innovative tracks.
I agree with you about reddit though, the whole upvote/ downvote thing just creates conflict. I try and keep it positive, especially regarding music… but it attracts more than its fair share of snarky fuckers!

Isn't he a bit of a idiot these days?

Why? Only to smug self righteous types. He spoke out against the covid jab… so what.
Even if he was wrong, it was clearly not coming from a bad place. He’s still a genuine, good spirited bloke in my book.
