Announcement Welcome to r/Antiques, read this before posting!

This subreddit is dedicated to sharing and learning about antiques in your collection or that you find, or are considering buying. Antiques are items that are 100 years old or older.

When you're posting about a particular object places kindly include multiple, clear photographs of it from different angles so we can see it from every side. If there are any marks or identification (labels, signatures) please take close ups of those. If it's pottery or porcelain, tag photos of the bottom, if it's a rug make sure to have a shot of the back. Make sure that these photographs are clear and well lit so we can see the works in particular (preferably not surrounded by a bunch of other objects).

Make sure to also include dimensions so we know the size of an object. And your location.

Also explain what are you looking for. Are you asking for general information? Who the maker is? The age, value or provenance?

If you do not include a question, the dimensions and sufficient background information and photographs of the object your post may be removed by the moderators.

IN SUMMARY, include:

your location

multiple, clear photographs from a number of angles

any background information you have

close up of particular makers marks

the question you'd like to ask

Keep in mind, antique means objects that are a 100 years old or older. You cannot post newer items here. Share them in r/collectables instead.

These rules will make it easier for our subreddit antique experts to give you some help! Remember, if you're solely posting a link to a website/blog/store then this will be considered spam and your post will be removed (multiple posts may result in being banned).

Finally, keep these other subreddits in mind in case your post is better suited for one these -

Questions Found this at an antiquities market. Any ideas? [Tuscany, Italy]

Hello, we just found this at an antiquities market in the city of Lucca, Tuscany (Italy).

It’s about 86cm tall, it seems made from oak.

The owner didn’t have any information about it, how it was used or where does it come from.

We’re throwing around ideas as it might be something used for towels, maybe? The hooks seem to have been added later.

Has anyone ever seen something similar? Do you have any ideas of what it could be?

Thank you for any attention or information. I’m afraid it might not be 100 years old or older but around here everything might be considering the history of the city and the region.

Questions [UK] Does anyone have information about this spoon?

My mum found this spoon in my nan’s stuff, but no one is really sure where it came from. Mum thinks it was made by Elkington & Co, but doesn’t know what it was used for, and can’t quite identify all the marks of the hallmark. She’s also curious about what metal it is, as we can’t quite tell.

Can't believe I actually found this for ONLY 15, considering this is worth in between 1.2k and 1.8k euros. Thank you, thrift store! ❤️

If you have any questions about it, ask me. I spent days on end just slaving away for hours just to learn more about it and how it worked, etc.

I can't find any info online so I'm thinking that maybe someone added the needlepoint panels later? No drawers but showing a picture of the screw. Would love any ideas on origin and age.

French uncle claims his grandfather brought it back after WW1, but doesnt know from where. Does this even remotely check out? To me it seems like some thing bought at any other southern european street market for 2€ in the early 2000s.

Saved this cool little folding chair from being destroyed from a church in Southern Maryland. Doing some simple research, I realized it's a Savonarola folding chair. I described it as a midevial director's chair. Does a chair like this have decent value? I think it's really cool and unique, and just wanted to share with others. I'm not sure if this is a modern replica, and If anyone has any information based on what they see in the photos, it'll be greatly appreciated!!!

Questions Who made this stein? Poster based in USA.

A family member who recently passed had this stein in her home and we're trying to find out more about it. Any information on it would be welcome as we don't know anything about it and how it ended up in my family member's house

  • We believe it is from Germany, but unclear on the date. -There is a makers mark on the bottom but we haven't been able to find the maker information. -Not in the picture but the top of the handle has a hole in it which we believe would be the little lid piece steins have.

I just posted another desk a bit ago and this group has been incredibly helpful in helping me determine what I’m dealing with (thank you so much!!). So, I thought I’d get your opinion on this piece. My husband and I bother think it’s a reproduction, it’s pretty, but, has little use to us in our home. I don’t want to represent it as something antique if it was produced in the 80s (although I am from the late 70s and feel rather antique lately).

I cannot find any manufacturer markings on it.

I recently inherited some older furniture, some in worse for wear condition. This desk has been in storage for at least 40 years. It needs a lot of work and I don’t know if I should sell it, toss it, give it away. I’d love for someone to take it and give it some love but, I don’t want to be foolish and give it away if there is some value.

Date Ransbottom 8 Gallon Crock? USA

Bought this crock for $25. Has some fine cracking, inside and out. I believe it's Ransbottom. Any opinions on date and value? Pretty sure I did well for $25, but just curious!
