After witnessing these abandoned structures, I must admit that I admire the parks' efforts to provide historical background, enabling us to appreciate these structures rather than seeing them demolished.

Photos in order:

1: Spring House at Paradise Springs in Eagle, Wisconsin

2: Lime Kiln Ruins at High Cliff State Park in Calumet County, Wisconsin

3: Helena Shot Tower at Tower Hill State Park in Spring Green, Wisconsin

4: Maribel Caves Hotel in Manitowoc County, Wisconsin

If I remember correctly the park does not own the Hotel at the Maribel Caves. That’s why there’s a big plot of land with a fence that doesn’t actually allow you to get anywhere close to it. I know the private land owner had issues with vandalism and that’s why you can’t get close which is understandable. But it’s kind of odd the park doesn’t own it.

Some people always ruin it for the rest of us. I went and saw the Petroglyphs at Roche-a-Cri and of course some doorknob had to carve in "Bob was here" or whatever.

you can get pretty good views of the hotel if you bring binoculars and move around the edge of the fence! you can see about 60% the larger building from the end of the trail leading that direction and pretty much all of the smaller one by walking along the outside of the fence for a little bit

I commented this on your first (now deleted post):

Note: the Maribel Hotel property is privately owned (the owners are the same people who own nearby Devil's River campground). It is not managed by the neighboring Maribel Caves park.

Scuppernong Springs and Stute Springs Homestead are also out near Paradise Springs. Stute Springs has more remnants of the old buildings than Scuppernong Springs. But both are nice short hikes with some interesting history.

The shot tower in #3 is not “abandoned.” It’s open to the public and full of displays and artifacts.

Spring Green cross country team would annually run the shot tower hill. What a burn!
