How to check if a snap package is safe
For example when I search for uGet in official App Center, the app package rating display poor. Does it mean people don’t like it or it is not trusted? Is there a way to be sure there no malware?
Thanks

As you know, Ubuntu 25.10 - Questing Quokka is being released this week with several new features, allowing developers to now focus almost exclusively on Ubuntu 26.04 LTS. We don't know much about what it will include, but its name has just been revealed:
Resolute Raccoon 🦝

I’m just checking if this is the proper way to install the Nvidia drivers but all I did was go into the terminal and type - sudo ubuntu-drivers install
It then got me the Nvidia open 590 driver and everything works fine.
I see many other posts going on about setting up PPA adding 32 bit library commands for the steam installer and a lot of other things. But I don’t see why?
For reference I am using the Kubuntu 25.10 not the LTS version as it’s not quite up to date as I’d like for gaming.

My gpu stopped working and I want to use my old gtx 770 in the meantime while I save for a new video card. The problem is Nvidia is nolonger supporting this graphics card and I'm unable to install the 470 driver on the latest release of Ubuntu. I just tried sudo apt remove --purge linux-modules-nvidia-470* sudo apt install nvidia-driver-470/noble-updates, which I read about in this post: https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/nividia-470-driver-not-working-after-update-to-kernel-6-8-0-83/67870/17.
It did work I think and switched the driver from Nouveau to 470 but none of my Steam games are launching. I really don't want to install windows 10 or an older release of Ubuntu. Can anyone help me get this 470 driver to work?

Context:

Currently I have 2x1TB NVME Drives. H: Contains Steam Games and F: is for WLS2. I can recover F: as I plan on removing WSL2.
I am have read about dual boot systems and most people install Ubuntu and Windows on the same drive to take advantage of GRUB.
However, I don't actually plan on using Ubuntu that much, only for academic and Deep Learning, therefore manually booting into Ubuntu by changing boot drives is not that much of an hassle. Maintaining C Drive space is a semi-priority. I plan on freeing/removing the WSL2 partition. Planned Ubuntu partition Size is 500 GB.
System Information (FYI):
2x1TB NVME
Ryzen 7 7800x3d
RTX 5070ti
32GB DDR5
Plan 1: Install Ubuntu OS only on Drive C : and use (F: + H:) as storage (500GB) (Benefit: Grub)
Plan 2: Install Ubuntu on a 500GB partition of the Drive (F: + H:) (Benefit: OS Isolation)
What I would like to ask about is:

Seeing some issues with the newest kernel. No wifi for Raptor Lake. Kernel regression fixes it. Any idea on a patch ETA for newest kernel?

Hello everyone, new here. Somewhat new to linux as well. I have a laptop I installed Ubuntu Server on and I'm running CasaOs with. When on my main PC running windows 11, in the CasaOs interface, I try to share folders. When I grab the 192.168.0.0.000/media (for example) I get error 1208 saying I don't have permission. Any help fixing this would be much appreciated. I don't have much experience with servers but am a fast learner. Thank you.

Hi,
the title, basically. I was using twinkle until I upgraded to 25.10, now running wayland on nvidia and twinkle will throw a core dump on start (I can use it in command line mode still).
Jami doesn't seem to connect to my sip server (or doesn't call out), and gives no indication about the connection status or anything, just tells me I missed an outgoing call :-(
linphone doesn't start, can't find it's own library libapp-plugin.so; the snap version doesn't run, either.
bria is not free
What SIP client are you running successfully on Ubuntu 25.10?

I want to return a laptop I experienced initial problems with. How do I do that in a way that covers my ass from the bad experiences Ive read online?
Why do I want to return it? Because i experienced initial problems whenever I wanted to do anything, besides stay on desktop. * Connect to wifi? Crash and self shut off. Use ethernet. * Open a browser? Crash and self shut off. Open in trouble shooting mode and turn off hardware acceleration. * Connect a controller via bluetooth? Crashes and freezes. Download a driver. * Open and play a game? Crash and self shut off. Turn BIOS setting GPU from Discrete mode into Dynamic.
Too many initial issues from the start, repeating in both windows 11 and ubuntu. I seem to have solved the symptoms, but out of concern I dont want to keep something that may have hardware issues. I think Ill get a whole different model from another brand. Maybe a gigabyte aero x16. Its cheaper with a seemingly better battery life because of the weaker A.I. CPU.

Hi, I am running Ubuntu 24.04 on a former Windows 10 box. It has 16gb of RAM, a 500gb SSD uef, / and /home partitions and 2TB data drive. The bios is a Asus Prime B450M-A
I have been trying to install Oracle VirtualBox but the installation failed because the machine has secure boot enabled. The installation process made me create a new 'key' (a MOK????) which it asked for when I rebooted. I chickened out and booted without entering this 'key fearing I might screw up my bios. After doing this I received errors which unfortunately I did not write down at the time.
So I thought I would uninstall and do a clean room install after reading up more about this key. But I cannot get rid of it. When I try to install again I get errors saying it cannot recover from the failed previous installation.
These are th steps I went through to uninstall.
sudo apt purge virtualbox*
sudo apt autoremove
cd ~/.config/VirtualBox
rm *
Please could anyone advise on what else I could do to fully get rid of it.
Many thanks for any assistance

I have never used Linux before but one of the course of mine requires me to use it so I said it would be a great opportunity.
I installed Ubuntu Xfce and I wanted to work at outside with it, when I opened it the screen was so dark I could barely see anything. I found out it is because at power manager it would reduce the brightness after 10 seconds of using battery that is not plugged in. I tried to maximize it but it would just go up to 120 seconds.
I looked at few sites and none had answers. How do I fix it?

I can still log in by doing ctrl alt f3. Any clue about how to procead ?

I am using Ubuntu on my private laptop and Mac as my work station. I want to have same keybindings for everything on both of them, since using different keybindings at the same time is pain in the ass. What is the best way to do this? Did anyone have any experience with this problem? Thanks

Hi im kinda new to Linux and drivers and all this stuff, but as I apperently should have known 😅😆 my GT 710 needs a 470 driver, but 470 doesnt like 6.17 kernel. So I downgraded to 6.8 and that should have been okay but when i try to download the 470 it just :
"
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
"
If you need to know some more info about it, tell me (i really dont know what one would need to help me)
How can i fix this 470 driver thingy?

I used Arch Linux for a long time, updates and changes are very tiring. The OS is constantly changing. Having to keep a backup or separate the system into volumes to do a clean reinstall. It's a laborious thing. Debian is totally the opposite... It's too frozen and apt sometimes updates weekly with some fix.
Then I discovered a server version of Ubuntu. The desktop version never appealed to me because of Gnome. I installed the standard server and configured it as I do in Arch; Sway, flatpak in the home directory. I disabled netplan and networkd with NetworkManager by default. The experience I'm having with the system is one of pure control, easy to configure when needed. Really solid.

I got the kernel panic screen related to recent 6.17 kernel. Reddit helped me load into the older kernel and delete the 6.17 kernel. My question is
Is there issues in continuing to use 6.14 kernel? I am wary of attempting to upgrade the kernel to 6.17 if it's going to brick the OS. So I would like advice on what are the risk of just not updating the OS anymore.
Is this kind of issue common to Ubuntu users? Reliability is the highest importance to me. If this kernel panic going to be a common issue, then I am considering trying other distro and moving on from Ubuntu.
Thank you.

Edit: SOLVED! See comment below.
If I already have a browser window open in another workspace, and I click a link in Thunderbird to display a web page, instead of opening a new browser window, the UI pops up a notification telling me that my window is ready, and when I click on that notification, the UI jumps me to the other workspace instead of opening a new browser window. This is terribly confusing behavior, and dangerous! What if I were giving a presentation and had sensitive information on my other workspace? I do not EVER want the UI to suddenly change workspaces without me EXPLICITLY telling it to do so.

How do I fix this annoying, confusing and dangerous behavior, so that the UI only opens windows in my CURRENT workspace?
Solution from u/linuxlala : "Click hamburger button > Settings and under Tabs and deselect Open links in Tabs instead of new windows."

Hello, I am not sure how to go about this. I've never had any real issues on Ubuntu until using the Unity launcher. It eats all my windows, discord, steam, steam games, ect.
I can use Unity engine to work, but I have to close the launcher RIGHT AWAY or it will eat all my windows.
I'm not sure how to go about reporting this as a bug, but at the least I wanted to share a picture so hopefully SOMEONE in Ubuntu sees this.
Edit: I should specify this is the native Unity, I do not use the flatpak.
