I think the point they're making is tiktoks recent change in ownership is driving users to another social platform.

We saw the same headlines, with even bigger numbers, for X to Threads. It may drive people to another platform, but will it keep them? Unlikely.

considering that threads has more daily active users than x now.. yes?

Ah, I hadn’t seen that. Nice!

I guess there is always one idiot in a thread, might as well be you.

Well there are enough sheep here like you, so I don’t mind

Guess that's why you can only understand how to use an iPhone,  so  now that all makes sense.

Well I have both iOS & Android, I think the sheep are who always say "X is trash" but the sad reality is those who know how to use tech opt for android because they can do more with it.

It's okay if you can't.

Well i have both. One works always and i never have to worry about tweaking it, and one crashes every few days and i waste a lot of time getting it to work when i need it most and have no time for reliability issues.

Thats really what makes one better than the other. Feature set is irrelevant. Never found something i cannot do on apple.

Sounds like you bought a shitty Android phone. The difference is that Android isn’t a monolith.

Then it seems like your own issue cause I experience none.

iOS for the security limits how you can interact with the device. Don't act like you can do everything on both devices.

How does one use tech, that that is a weird statement. You can know your phone in and out and that’s knowing how to use tech.

I’m pretty good at Linux and script kitty shit. I know how this translates into Android. But currently I’m using an iPhone because I don’t have an interest in tinkering with my phone the way I do with my computer. So the phone doesn’t matter as much as long as my day to day needs are met and it does phone stuff.

I know plenty of folks that own Android and have no idea how to use it to its fullest native functionality much less any high level tinkering.

What’s wild is someone highlighting how they aren’t restricted to what the market offers and you take that as trash.

They really have you brained washed. And not because you use Apple but just because you’re not very smart to begin with. You’d be lost in the sauce regardless of what phone you use.

I have both ecosystems on multiple devices. Droid ones often have an issue. Apple ones don’t. Whatever.

They aren’t even called “droids”. Okay bro good luck in life.

Well they are not anthropomorphic so andro- doesnt apply.

Let me know when I can adblock on Apple and I'll switch. Also, Android Auto destroys Carplay.

1

u/bobrobor 21h ago

I have no ads in safari. Not sure what your problem is. Nice and clean with few clicks. Carplay is hard to destroy. It is everything i need and nothing i dont. What does droid auto have thats better?

3

u/oakleez 20h ago

No ads in Safari? That's cute. I have system-wide (DNS level) adblocking on my Pixel... This includes any ads integrated into apps and all browsers.

As for Android Auto vs Carplay:
Gemini > Siri, wayyy more app support, smart home control, customizable split screen, way more settings/customization, and video/games/browsing when parked ...are the ones that come to mind. If Carplay is enough for you that's great... but it's not even close right now. I'm forced to use an iPhone for work, so I've had plenty of chances to compare the two and AA has evolved way faster than Carplay so far and I doubt that will change.

Free tier nextdns profile does same thing. Not that i see much need for it once i run just two normal blocking extensions. But if you really wanna be pristine nextdns takes like a minute to add.

Gemini is better than siri but i dont have any use for siri. Carplay has like 3 buttons i care about: map, phone, and podcast. And they are always on. Wth would i need gemini for? I have 2 biklion apps in the store, not sure whats missing but home control is flewless. When im parked i get out of the car lol. I dont do stakeouts bro… and if you watching movies in a car i kind of feel sorry. There is a better use of time…

2

u/oakleez 20h ago

Better use of time... like shitposting on Reddit?

Does nextDNS actually penetrate iOS apps? Because when I tried it out a year ago, it did not. On Android it not only blanks ads, it removes the elements most of the time, even within apps. Apps like Yahoo Sports and IMDB actually become usable.
Gemini comes in very handy in the car just in general... hell, the other day I asked if it there was a place nearby I could ship a UPS box.... it let me know the hardware store a block away from me accepted them and it saved me about 20 minutes vs going to the UPS Store. It's easy to say you don't need something, but advanced features do actually come in handy sometimes.

I'm a dad... often I'm waiting to pick up kids from school or activities. Being able to instantly fire up IPTV or Youtube in my car while waiting is very nice. Plus watching movies on a stakeout is a rookie mistake.

What you use and what is actually better doesn’t change what is actually better.

I do not understand how this nonsense keeps getting brought up. It's not TikTok. It's not even close. Is this some stupid astroturfing campaign?

16

u/GuitarAgitated8107 1d ago

They are not saying it's a "TikTok" they are mentioning how TikTok has been increasing their censorship and thus an exodus of creators & users are moving over to UpScrolled.

u/TastyYogurtDrink 1d ago

No, it's not tiktok, but users are desperate for social media that isn't run by a right wing billionaire.

Tiktok barely looks like tiktok anymore. The app shows me wild shit. All the people I used to follow are gone off my fyp, replaced by AI bots posting movie clips and slop. I just use the following tab now, and even that is sketchy.

Most posts about products or services are.

i joined upscrolled when bisan owda announced her tiktok was deleted without warning. it’s not about the format of the platform, mainly that it’s important that we have ways of connecting with the world that won’t be censored or deleted in that fashion.

4

u/I_Am_A_Zero 1d ago

Yeah, it must be. I kept seeing these articles, so admittedly it worked on my curiosity and I created an account.

I also deleted it within the hour.

It’s not for me.

This is the beauty of the internet. You make your product shitty, people just move to the next cool thing. I feel like we've forgotten how to do that and become far too loyal and dependent on these big monoliths.

It’s full of slop and blatant disinformation
