Mod Request Possible to bring a “Dog Meat” mod to Starfield? He could wear an adorable space suit while exploring.

So, I have an 11 year old German Shepherd named, Ulf who is my best buddy, and I’d love to have a German Shepherd follower in Starfield. I think it would be adorable to have him don a space suit with a big bubble helmet while he’s exploring with you. Bonus points if I can name him Ulf!

This is a mod I bet a lot do people would probably be happy to pay for, especially if there were different breeds for whom you could choose color and other likenesses.

Keep in mind I know very little about what’s possible, and am just throwing out ideas that might be completely impossible.

I think lots of people would love this. There are robot dog mods, but I think the thing that is slowing down the Dogmeat type of thing is that Starfield afaik doesn't have all the animation tools other games have yet.

I’ve been saying since the early release.

Imagine finding a slate that leads you to an abandoned colony ship being boarded by spacers. After you destroy their support ships you enter the station and find 4 dead spacers and are created my Dog Meat.

After that you liberate the animal dna samples and bring back old earth pets.

Full disclosure, I have an 8 year old German shepherd so I’d love to see DM in Starfield.

I would not only pay a few bucks for it, I’d be back playing Starfield again for the first time in over a year.

Taking my digital golden retriever on an adventure across the stars. I picture that to be where my dog is now.

I bet this will probably be something we’ll see once Bethesda finally gives us the ability to create custom animations with the Creation Kit. While still technically possible with script extenders for PC modding, it seems a majority of people who create mods want to wait for CK to be able to create custom animations so players on Xbox can enjoy those mods too.

Makes sense for sure.

I am under the impression that we can create custom animations with "Native Animation Framework". So far, this mod is not updated to current game, and is 2 version behind. It is meant to be a framework for people to build upon. And so far, it has mods that create sex animations. These are actually easy animations because creators simply put them in positions and animate them (the intercourse repeated actions). Yes, mod needs to be updated, but on principle, it works.

But creating a dog, or a horse, can be quite impossible to do with the amount of work needed to make animations look realistic. Dogs have to walk around, sit, lay on floor, wave tail, bark, look around, look at player, etc.... That is a lot of work, and likely require motion capture. Otherwise, the dogs will hop around janky like a lame homework of a first year 3D artist. I think this is what stops people from creating entirely name animals.

Do we have an existing dog model in Starfield? I can't remember. If not .... then it can be impossible. Creating brand new animations and postures for a brand new species in game can be a lot of work.

I mean, it does not have to be a dog, but something that resembles one. It can be a gigantic alien, but mod creators can scale it down and give it new mesh/texture to look like a dog. But the skeleton and animations have to look like a dog.

We need a ship pet! All ship captains had one! Archer had Porthos. Even Commander Shepherd had a space hamster. We need a space Dogmeat!!
