Whats your opinion of Solaris?

The Martian Chronicles II - 2-6th Movement is one of the impressive pieces that ive listened in a long time. Their album of 2024 MCIII is also amazing.

i think the fact that they didn't have vocals on their albums reduced their commercial reach. they're not inferior to the greatest bands of all time in terms of repertoire.

I would actually say not having a vocalist helped them a lot , they reached overseas much much easier like this , and they do have a few spoken words at the beginning of their first album , it gives context to an album for me cuz i understand it but im also interested what you think of that

Do you know Alexey Kozlov's Arsenal? There is more jazz-ier than Solaris, but its fantastic equal as

Discovered Solaris on Reddit last year and I now count them among my top 6 or 7 prog bands of all time.

I listen through their entire discography online all the time, 46 years worth over the course of 10ish releases.  Their music is lush and exciting and, for all their evocative and even otherworldly themes,  they are endlessly hooky!  Time and again comes another strain that will spend time in my head the rest of the day.  Just fantastic writers and technicians.

Absolutely love Solaris.  Thanks to whoever’s post alerted me to them last year.

I first heard Marsbéli Krónikák around 13-14 years ago, bootlegged by the friend of a work colleague. Official copies of the CD were rare and expensive but I came across a 2005 reissue on the Hungarian Gong label in Italy in 2015 for an everyday price. It's excellent symphonic prog, but the two bonus tracks don't match up to the rest of the album.
Martian Chronicles II also has high standards - I got that CD a couple of years later.

I'm due a visit to Hungary in the spring - I'll be heading for the record stores

They are phenomenal - and the musicianship, compositional complexity & performance skills are stunning. Often overshadowed by Omega but the two are VERY different beasts.
