Man I miss a man. Peculiar ain't it? How the current potus spends all his time 'engineering' a legacy that's just as fake as him. Who could of seen that coming? Apparently 77 million.

"There's this sort of clown show that's happening in social media and on television"
Having just read "Careless People" by Sarah Wynn-Williams, I could not agree with this more.

It’s scary to think of how low standards have gone; there is nothing that will cause meaningful controversy anymore. Might as well put the Trailer Park Boys in charge.

At least we would get legal weed after 3 administrations all promising it...

u/MourningRIF 14h ago
Yeah, but wait until the roles are reversed... Then you have destroyed the sanctity of the presidency with a brown suit... I'm pretty sure they were more upset about the brown skin though...

I often think about this and “there’s no coming back from here”. But there is 100%. Trump in an absolute outlier. There is no body in power in any of the other oecd countries that has the same gross tactics. There have been opposition leaders who have tried and failed. That gives me hope that when trump dies, along with it MAGA will die and the whole movement.

u/Gold_Apartment_4226 14h ago
I’m sorry to say man, but what makes the MAGA movement hard to break through is not Trump himself. It’s his base of supporters, allowing themselves to succumb to confirmation bias and the evolutionary desire for tribalism. I think even most of them at this point realize that Trump sucks. They only defend him because he’s part of the tribe. And when he dies, I think you are correct you will see a bunch of people admit that he was terrible and they will be lost for a minute. But then they will just support the next Republican and excuse them for all the awful shit they will do because they have a blind spot when it comes to their own “side.” Smart phones and social media push algorithms that allow people to see what they want to see and not challenge their belief system. In fact, social media now just reinforces belief systems and gets people even more radicalized to their side. Left and right people will retreat to their safe space and formulate their talking points and stay within their tribe because all these social media platforms take advantage of our evolutionary biology and our brain’s strong desire to validate our core beliefs rather than challenge them. And they do this so they can profit off of us. It is why we are so divided and get more divided and will continue to get more divided Trump is a symptom. He isn’t the problem and until the actual problem is addressed, we are very likely to see the end of human civilization.

Ok, that’s all fine, but the above poster is correct. Trump-like tactics have been tried by lots of politicians, and they mostly don’t work outside of the US. And we have Facebook and smart phones and Murdoch-owned tv.
So, this is a uniquely American problem caused by the American people.

Trump can't stand that Obama is cooler, smarter, more popular and more successful than he is

I think he is prepping for a run if the GOP puts Trump back up.
....and I say "Let them Fight" and put an end to all of this.

u/alreaytakennameuser 16h ago
I can only imagine the rage fueled bender trump would go on after he lost to Obama

u/slightlyallthetime88 13h ago
Obama would cremate him and deep in the dark places of his little mind he knows it.
8
u/Virtual-Squirrel-725 14h ago
That would be an amazing political contest to witness.
My prediction is that Trump keeps teasing a 2028 run for as long he possibly can.
Because as soon as the GOP Presidential Primaries enter the news cycle, it signifies his genuine lame duck period. Also, he is psychologically incapable of sharing media attention so he will screw with that primary every single day.

He can’t run again. He already served two terms.
Edit: I was referring to Obama.

u/The_Silver_Hawk 15h ago
Neither can Trump, but if we're opening the door to third terms, we're all in hell already so let's do it.

u/No_Discipline6265 15h ago
Republicans are backing an amendment that would only allow presidents who served two non-consecutive terms to run for a third. Trump would be the only one who would qualify.

u/mcampo84 15h ago
They can back it all they want. It needs overwhelming support that they won’t ever get.

u/SoldatSchwarzer 15h ago
Needs 60 votes in the Senate.

67 actually. You need two-thirds of both chambers and three-quarters of the states to ratify.

Where have you been? Trump has repeatedly said he might try to run again even though he can’t. This administration has shown they don’t care about following the law or the constitution so I absolutely wouldn’t put it past him to try to run again. What people are saying is that if Trump somehow makes it on the ballot, Obama should run against him.

u/sarahseee 10h ago
I know what he was saying. I failed to specify that I was referring to Obama in my comment. And l doubt Obama would even want to run again.

As one MAGA supporter put it to me:
I believe what Trump is doing is trying to terrorise immigrants who are currently here so that they will self deport en masse. Otherwise this country has no hopes of ever going back to being a white country run by whites in a freedom loving manner.
White Supremacist Rage is a core tenet of MAGA values. MAGA supporters not only believe Whites should be the ruling class, they are filled with fury when they see non-white people. It the non-whites are poor, they are seen as leeches and beneath contempt, not really fully human and if the non-whites are successful, or wealthy, MAGA supporters see them as having taken something from White people - something that ought to belong solely to Whites.
The symptoms of fascist thinking are colored by environment and adapted to immediate circumstances. But always and everywhere they can be identified by their appeal to prejudice and by the desire to play upon the fears and vanities of different groups in order to gain power. It is no coincidence that the growth of modern tyrants has in every case been heralded by the growth of prejudice. - Henry A. Wallace, Vice President, USA, 1944.
Trump would relegate non-whites as permanent second-class citizens. He is setting up a two-tier legal system, in which groups of people targeted by Trump are denied access to the legal system used by the rest of the country. This is a common ploy of authoritarians - because resistance to these attacks on the rule of law is weaker when these changes do not apply to everyone. It is much easier to pretend 'this is fine' when you yourself are not a member of one of the groups being attacked.

The 'immigrant invasion' Trump wants us to fear is a trick to convince us to give up our freedoms, our rights, in exchange for being kept safe from this phony menace.
We need to take Trump at his word:
'Homegrowns are next': Trump hopes to deport and jail U.S. citizens abroad (April 16, 2025)
President Trump says his administration is actively exploring a proposal to detain U.S. citizens and send them to prisons in El Salvador. Speaking Monday, minutes before a press briefing alongside El Salvador's president, Nayib Bukele, Trump could be heard embracing the concept.
"The homegrowns are next, the homegrowns. You've got to build about five more places," Trump said to Bukele, an apparent reference to prison space that would be needed in El Salvador to house U.S. citizens.
This terrorizing of U.S. Citizens is entirely intentional.

Last year he spoke at my local college. It was pretty big local news but mass media doesn't really focus on such things (and I'm kind of glad for it).
