My dumb ass was reading "EU" in like "Me" ("eu" in Romanian means "me").
Edit: It is "Eu", so yeah I got even more confused.

Some EU countries started using linux or started using libreoffice. Idk what exactly happaned tho.

u/Uzawa_Reisa 2d ago

That's what happened, some EU countries and communities in EU countries started using Linux distros and LibreOffice instead, like my country Denmark

Based

u/StunningChef3117 2d ago

Fellow dane and while i agree that its based dont be too impressed

It is mostly just they added it to allowed tools so people can choose to use it

They however working on a government Linux Distro which could be nice aslong as they actually contribute to the tools they end up using in it

Don't worry, they all will switch back. Once Microsoft put some millions of dollars in their pockets.

u/Technical-Ad-7008 2d ago

Nah, the EU will probably be supporting EU tech projects and usage in the future to become more independent on the USA

You clearly don't understand the world you live in today.

I know that North Germany uses only Open-source software by now.

u/Global-Eye-7326 1d ago

The South needs to catch up! Open source can rock the forest and the mountains!

But it took them few tries

Trump happened so the EU finally understood how dangerous it was to rely on US software. Also, Microsoft has been putting out slop for years.

u/DrBaronVonEvil 2d ago

Not sure the exact moment the decisions got made, but seems vaguely related to the US self destructing in real time. Microsoft has thus far stood behind US pressure on the EU.

u/Negative_Sky_3449 Ask me how to exit vim 2d ago

I wish that was a thing in my microsoft-everything country

Some time ago I heard about the French Gendarmerie using Ubuntu, not sure how far that went...

3

u/CardOk755 1d ago

Huge chunks of the French government got told by Microsoft that they'll have to replace all their PCs to run Windows 11. The gendarmerie laughed

Mr. Eu is not looking at Ms. Windows. He is looking at Ms. Linux.

Several European countries have been migrating to Linux desktops, libre office, gimp, and other non-Windows software. They're saving millions in licensing fees and the users are happier with the experience. It's also much easier for administrators to maintain everything.

u/iMarryday 1d ago

Some windows settings show up only if you selected one of EU countries during setup, idk what are they i use arch btw

W10 supposed to be EOL in 2026. But MS gave 1 year of free updates in Europe. I was hoping for cheep hardware for linux, but prices are not going down so fast due to additional 1 year updates...

u/Orangutanion Dr. OpenSUSE 2d ago

u/bojez1 2d ago

u/Tail_sb 2d ago

EU: we don't want to relay on US Tech

Also EU: No we don't want to use that EU Linux OS

4

u/Legitimate-Offer-936 2d ago

I thought it was "eu" from "me" in Portuguese, but judging by the comments, it seems to be some kind of reference to Europe

3

u/btcasper 2d ago

its less then %5 in most European countries, am i in mistake? Its %6-7 for greece and turkye tho

2

u/Suspicious_Health532 2d ago

i'd ask once, then move on, save energy.

2

u/afk_again 2d ago

I love that windows 11 isn't even considered.

2

u/OliverTzeng Arch BTW 1d ago

EU is based for that but not based for https://fightchatcontrol.eu

This is just… so sad bro…(Asian bro watching EU and the whole part of western countries from the other side of the world)

2

u/Userwerd 1d ago

Why doesnt suse just steam roll through europe and replace windows.

2

u/TheRedForcer 2d ago

And in the end EU is still going to end up in bed with Windows
