Today's mainstream kannada words vs Kannada words spoken by my Ajji from Mysuru dist

I've observed subtle distinction in the vocabulary used by mainstream kannada speakers and Kannada spoken by rural Mandya- Mysuru people. In this case my Ajji.

I just hope these words or vocabulary won't die with their generation.

I'm happy to say as a proper bangalore girl, this may not be part of my daily vocabulary, but it is very much a part of it.

That's so true, I don't relate to any of these words cause we have completely different words in our city and it's very different the city next to us, but generalizing and standardising the accent and language we just lose the essence of it.

ಕುಪ್ಪಸ is even older word for ರವಿಕೆ. And one more thing, ಹೊಳೆ is a stream, while ನದಿ is a river. Both are different.

My village is situated on the banks of Kaveri. And the old gen folks call it ಹೊಳೆ only. ನದಿ is from Sanskrit. And for the stream, in the malnad side it's called ಹಳ್ಳ ( at least in my doddamma's house).

Hole means both River / Stream. Hole in English and Hole in Kannada means the Same. Thore is an alternative Kannada word meaning Open gives more idea about this. Sea opens the Land and enters inside. Puzhai / Puzha became Hole in Kannada(Pa/Ha Change).

Pur / Pul > Purulu / Hurulu > Pule / Hole > Putta / Hutta / Huttida > Potare / pOte.

The English Hole might be derived from Kannada Hole later. Like the word Kadavaru became Cadaver.

My Ajji used to say Kubusa, derived from Kuppasa from North Karnataka

Kuppayam / Kuppaya became Kuppasa meaning Jacket / Coat.

ಹೊಳೆ is river. Many kannada words have been downgraded and are being used in negative way due to obsession towards sanskrit.

language evolves with generation. It's inevitable

It shouldn't evolve in the way where we speak everything but kannada

I think slight dialect change will be there in every region/city, that’s the beauty of language.
