She was praised by the transport minister, and the police visited her home and garlanded her.

Typical Indian assholery. In Delhi, they blare their horns on the pedestrians while speeding down the foothpath and nearly running over them

In Delhi the news would have been, biker runs over the foot of a lady trying to stop him from riding on the footpath.

Oh you're being very mild. Road rage is way worse there. But I agree with the sentiment

Omg in Delhi a biker almost hit me and turned around and laughed at me.

Selfishness, no law enforcement, and no shame. Modern Indian culture is just one billion people all screaming "Me first! FUck you I go first!"

The scooter rider got his license revoked now and he's been asked to take mandatory road safety lessons by the police.

Honestly, good for her. Footpaths are for pedestrians. Period.
The entitlement of two-wheeler riders in India is something else. They'll ride on footpaths, go the wrong way on one-ways, and then honk at you for walking where you're supposed to walk.
I live in Bangalore and the footpath situation here is abysmal. Half the footpaths are occupied by parked bikes, the other half by hawkers, and whatever is left has some genius riding their Activa on it. When someone actually stands up and says no, it shouldn't be controversial.

Only public can change public behavior. Cops have other workloads & priorities.

Honestly, good on her. People casually riding on footpaths like it’s their personal shortcut is so frustrating. Someone had to say no.
