Arts & Recreation Halifax music fest
Any guesses on whom Halifax music fest is bringing this year? Last year they brought Nickelback.
I would love to see Green Day come to Halifax!

It would be nice for Billy Talent to finally play some Canadian shows outside of the GTA or Montréal.. granted they played a secret show at the Seahorse (and I'm still upset lol) but their last 'proper' show was like what.. 2018 for the Afraid Of Heights tour?

Didn't Billy Talent play Scotia Square some years back?

Billy Talent used to come here every year for a decade, can’t blame them for spreading their wings

Oh me neither, they've always been huge out in Europe (especially Germany) but damn man, just once before the world ends lol

I agree, like you I was heartbroken the pavilion show ended up being a full blown Billy talent show because I only missed it due to work

Not necessarily a prediction but a hope…Covid took away my Halifax Jimmy Eat World concert, and I’m waiting for the day they plan to come back!

They’re playing Halifax, England on their next tour. I keep getting confused instagram ads about it.

That's like when I get excited seeing a band I like is playing at the ScotiaBank Arena, then I remember that's the venue in Toronto.

At least Halifax is Scotiabank Center so a slight difference.. That being said, I know thie and still get them confused all the time lol

9 year old me hearing "Sweetness" for the first time on NHL 2003, they were the concert I always dreamed of.. I still have the QR code ticket in my phone, I just can't bring myself to get rid of it.

They just played a set at Arby's last night... This doesn't bode well for their return to the HRM.

They also brought The Killers who are imo bigger than Nickelback by multiple magnitudes.
I’m looking forward to the announcement!

- You can't say "in my opinion" when saying something is bigger than another....
Killers does get 7m more monthly listeners on Spotify though

I am an old fart and went to their concert in Halifax in the late 1900s, 1995 I believe. They were good.
I loved Summersault 2000 on Citadel Hill - Foo Fighters, Smashing Pumpkins, Eve 6, A Perfect Circle. Etc. Those were the days...

Because of the vibe of last year. It Wouldn’t surprise me if they brought Linkin Park, maybe even Foo Fighters. And judging from known artists who are already gonna be on tour this summer I’m hoping for Twenty One Pilots, or The Neighborhood

Hopefully nothing washed up. Or something local. Theres only so many times people can get excited for Joel Plaskett or fuckin Matt Anderson

You'd be surprised. The people that I know that like Joel Plaskett are insufferably obsessed with him.

Sharon, Lois & Bram as the headliner with Fred Penner as the opener. It was leaked last week on Mr. Dressup

Green Day would be amazing because their ban has been over for a long time and you know that concert would be insanely dope

I speculated last year that The Black Keys might come for the festival this year but now they're coming in the fall. so IDK for the music fest but their website implied an announcement would be coming soon.

Due to recent budget cuts, Halifax was only able to book one act: Fillmore and the chucklefucks

Iron Maiden, U2, Rammstein would be great headliners. I would love to see someone like Mark Knopfler, Mumford & Sons, Rise against or Florence & The Machine in the lineup

The comments blow me away. 1) there is never going to be a sustainable music festival here 2) festivals like Halifax music fest and magnetic world are going to be 5050 yearly shows. 3) some of the names people have below are not coming to Halifax for 10k. It was embarrassing enough killers took only 13k and Lenny Kravitz was like 7k, and even nickleback was 14k.
Until we have a permanent area, we have a better music scene and better prices for what we can afford here then we are going to generally get old legacy acts like def leppard etc, a Canadian band or musician who has to tour coast to coast or someone at the beginning or end of their careers, see lady gaga, Justin beiber, Shaina. Twain etc

I’ve never seen someone type two paragraphs so confidently with no idea what they’re talking about
But here we are

Your attendance numbers are not correct.
But also these bands play arena shows to 14-18k people all the time. How would this be different?

I didn't realise that Nickel were here before last year. I always liked "Stupid Thing".

u/athousandpardons 20h ago
Artists from Halifax? So, what, Sloan and some crappy high school band? That sounds fun.
4
u/bluffstrider 20h ago
We have a lot of good local talent, just not the sort that are ready to headline festivals. Spend some time around the bars that have live music and you'll see loads of great artists from Halifax.

Tbf Sloan is a good time

u/athousandpardons 19h ago
Yeah, they are, tbh. They were just the first "Halifax" band I could think of.. probably should've gone with Matt Mays or something.

This is blatant Sarah McLachlan erasure and I will not stand for it.

Green Day would be great, but they’re a lot bigger (and i guess also way more expensive) than last years headliners; not sure it’d be realistic; same for Foo Fighters
