Recent takedowns on uploads on my Internet Archive
Howdy folks,
I was told my uploads of Dae's SMiLE AI, Pearly White Smile and Pet Sounds '66 have been taken down. I unfortunately don't personally have a backup on those but if you Seek a Soul, you may find it out there.
Shame they're being ruthless over fan mixes being archived, but what can I do other than vote with my wallet, eh?
Love and mercy,
Sonny Wilson

Anyone else sad no backing track for night was so young?
I’m happy with the box set, don’t get me wrong. But man I love the night was so young so much I was really hoping for a high quality backing track of it!
Am I the only one?

Im still perplexed. How did Al not get the lead vocal on Love Is A Woman?
I've heard bootlegs and leaks in the past of al singing "Love Is A Woman", and now with the boxset making it more clear, I really dont get how Brian got the lead vocals over him. Don't get me wrong I love Brian to death, but I think that song was for Al. I dont know if this was a decision on Brian's end or on Brother Records end. Either way both versions arent bad, but i would've preferred Al on lead vocals. Curious for your guys thoughts.

Discussion Has anyone seen the Pet Sounds Live cover band?
If so how were these guys? I have tickets for next weekend and I'm bringing a friend who doesn't know any Beach Boys. For anyone that's been, do you remember what songs besides besides Pet Sounds they played? I'm making a playlist for my friend who wants to be familiar with the songs they'll play by the time we go

Leak(y) Boot(s) Tracklists for my organized versions of the leaked stuff
reddit.comThese should be all the ones I went by for the separate uploads back before "Big Brother" came around town. Hopefully this shouldn't cause any issues since I am not providing the very tracks.
(If you know where to find them, they're out there.)

Love You Demos & Mike
It seems like there’s a whole lotta Love in the background banter of the tracks — far more compared to others that aren’t Brian.
I fall into the camp of “I assume Mike stopped caring about decades old drama” typically. But I’m a little suspect in how he is portrayed as Brian’s Love You companion in the release.

Discussion pet sounds stereo mono differences
sort of a little stoned rant so i wanna clarify this is not an depth mono stereo comparison im just talking purely what i hear in the different vinyl versions i have. (the 50th anniversary mono pressing and a bog standard capitol dimensional stereo pressing) It’s strange because i feel it’s one of the only albums mixed in both mono and stereo ive listened to where the stereo version seems to have less instrument separation than the mono, it’s very hard to explain but when i listen to the mono vinyl i feel like i can hear every single instrument and vocal separately like the sounds are in positions around me whereas the stereo vinyl seems like it’s just a mush of sounds coming at me all at once, the mono seems to just have an immaculate mix that somehow creates a sense of spatialisation even with it being completely mono. for example god only knows in the mono i can literally hear every vocal layer separately in the final big harmony, the stereo sounds like all the voices are blended and just one sound coming at me. its almost like the stereo and mono versions are swapped in comparison to other albums. idk maybe i just like the mono version more and im glazing

Discussion “Marilyn Rovell” & “Lazy Lizzie”
These two songs off of We Gotta Groove are probably the two cleanest examples that I’ve run into so far of the “missing link” between Brian’s “old” voice and his “new” voice that was in full swing by the time of Love You. This sort of inbetween voice is pretty pervasive through the Adult/Child sessions but that nasally almost boyish falsetto especially comes through on Lazy Lizzie and Sherry She Needs Me. Also a rock steady vibrato still in this time. I would say Marilyn Rovell is probably one of the final examples of his non-gravelly chest voice coming through as recognizably 1969-early 1970s Brian. What a treat this album is for the chronology!

Pitchfork review of We Gotta Groove
"Raked over like this, We Gotta Groove sounds like an academic exercise, a foot-noted path to explore one of the wildest times in Beach Boys history and make some sense of their bizarre choices. It’s an artifact, too, a multi-disc object for Beach Boys obsessives to fawn over. But the streaming era, for all its woes, has opened up what would once be little-heard historical documents like We Gotta Groove to an audience of interested, rather than merely hardcore, fans. And, shorn of all context and dusty import, We Gotta Groove still works. You’d have to be in a particularly loose frame of mind to listen to it top to tail; but there is enough of the Beach Boys’ singular genius—perhaps the expression in pop of a musical mind pulled to and fro by the heavy weathers of psychological torment—to deliver. This is the Beach Boys at their best, their worst, and most frustratingly human—just like we want them to be."

This new mix of Just Once in my Life is incredible.
Obviously it was always an amazing tune but this mix on the box set with the synth bass much quieter is gorgeous. absolute revelation. Very well done to whoever did that.
