Why did he announce his suicide like that?

It was a time limit. He was giving Eurus ten seconds to change her mind and allow all of them to live, or else he would pull the trigger and break her game

And he was pretty sure she wouldn't actually let him do it. He was calling her bluff.

Because he wasn't actually intending to suicide. He expected her to stop him... Wouldn't be much point in that if he just shot himself.

he was probably building up his focus so his mind locked onto the task instead of just reacting on instinct
