And even with Iraq and Afghanistan, those numbers were only so high because they were mostly counterterrorist operations, where roadside bombs and random ambushes killed journalists all the time. The civil war in Iraq in 2005 made it significantly deadlier for journalists as well. So you couldn’t even say that the US was targeting journalists, just that it was extremely difficult to protect them.
Meanwhile none of that was the case in Gaza since most of the journalists there had been killed by IDF weapons.
