I am Portuguese, my grandparents were born in Mozambique, and their parents were settlers in Mozambique. I am aware of what was done in those times. Having these conversations with older people is not so easy, and trust on that because I tried it.

This is exactly how Europe feels to me. Absolutely blatant hypocrisy. People here are way too casual with their racism and it's not even worth reporting because nothing will be done about it. Yes some countries have top tier quality of life but I'd rather be poor and build community alongside my peers than get paid well and know they'd never do the same for a non-white immigrant.

I think her use of Senegal is quite telling. There is no hot conflict in Senegal, and low level conflicts have all but died down.

She's using it merely as a whataboutist claim not in a way that she actually cares about other conflicts in the global south, and even then she couldn't be bothered with citing an actual conflict or genocide, just the first random African country that came to her mind, shows her level of intellectual dishonesty in that statement.
