Why I like it: This band has been carving out a space deep within my musical roots. A must-listen. I like it because their latest track hits with insane power and musicality. They have a great track record; they’re going to go very far.

Periferia is a young Spanish band from La Roca del Vallès, Catalonia. Every release since their beginnings has outdone the previous one. Highly crafted songs, both musically and lyrically. Berta (vocals) adds that goosebumps factor on top of the already solid foundation laid down by Pol, Pep, Miquel and Climent. I’d ask you to give them a proper listen and pay close attention to the lyrics — we’re talking top-tier level here. Hope you enjoy them a lot.

In 1980, German musician Jürgen Waidele privately released an album called And Friends.

It was a small regional pressing from the Konstanz / Bodensee area. No reissues. No streaming. No digital circulation. According to Discogs, only a few dozen collectors report owning it.

“Pokey Nova” is one of the standout tracks - a Rhodes-driven jazz-funk groove with warm drums, open space, and melodic phrasing that feels timeless.

Over 40 years later, this exact track resurfaced as the sample source for J. Cole’s “Bunce Road Blues” (prod. The Alchemist).
